Rebirth: The Courtyard Bride Is Cool and Radiant

Chapter 454: Chapter 454 I Have a Way Now

Yunyi leaned close to Huo Jingrui’s ear and said, ”We can’t just sit here and wait for death. It would be best if we could find the missing people before they reach an agreement. That way, we wouldn’t be controlled by them.”

Huo Jingrui frowned. ”No. These people are desperate. I can’t let you take the risk.”

Yunyi didn’t have time to argue with him. ”Ye Wenhui is very important to me. I must go. There’s no room for discussion.”

Huo Jingrui knew she wouldn’t give up until she achieved her goal. ”Then I’ll accompany you,” he said.

Yunyi didn’t want her personal actions to make Huo Jingrui go against his principles. ”There’s no need for you to follow me,” she said. ”Two people make too big a target and are easily exposed.”

Huo Jingrui said sternly, ”Either let me come with you, or you stay here and wait. In any case, you can’t act alone.”

Seeing Huo Jingrui was so insistent, Yunyi relented. ”Fine, then. You tell them, so they won’t be looking for you later and cause more trouble.”

Huo Jingrui walked over to Qiao Shaoguo. ”Uncle Qiao, Yunyi is here. I’m going to check another place with her. If they ask later, could you let them know for me?”

Qiao Shaoguo was aware of their capabilities. ”Take good care of Doctor Chu,” he said, ”and be sure to stay safe.”

Huo Jingrui nodded and then looked towards the front right. ”Uncle Qiao, there are people in ambush over there, to the front right. Tell our comrades to be on guard and watch out for a surprise attack.”

Qiao Shaoguo couldn’t help but glance towards the front right, but given his military background, he didn’t keep staring in that direction. ”I understand,” he said.

Huo Jingrui slowly moved back to Yunyi’s side. ”Which way shall we go now?” he asked.

Yunyi motioned for him to follow and turned back the way they had come.

Huo Jingrui didn’t question her, quickly understanding her intention.

After doubling back for about five hundred meters, they turned onto another small path. Yunyi said, ”Let’s circle around this way and, if possible, try to deal with the people ambushing over there.”

The two moved quickly and, in fifteen minutes, had circled behind the ambushers. Yunyi pointed to a spot not far away. ”There are five of them,” she said. ”It won’t be easy to take them out quietly from this distance.”

Huo Jingrui also knew Yunyi was right. Even with their high combat abilities, taking on five people with just the two of them without making any noise was probably impossible. They couldn’t risk their comrades’ lives recklessly.

After a moment of silence, Yunyi said, ”I have an idea.”

Huo Jingrui looked at her. ”What is it?”

Yunyi replied, ”Go get a thorny vine, the kind used for making baskets.”

As she spoke, she appeared to reach into her pocket, but she actually took a piece of yarn from her space.

The mountain wasn’t short of thorny vines, and Huo Jingrui returned quickly. ”Here you go,” he said.

Yunyi took it and worked it in her hands for a moment. Then, she tied the yarn to one end and pulled it taut, fashioning a simple, small bow.

By the time she had finished the bow, Huo Jingrui had already used his dagger to prepare makeshift arrows. She tested the bow’s feel; it wasn’t too bad.

Next, Yunyi took a small paper packet from her pocket. She found a sour date tree nearby and used its thorns to poke numerous holes in the packet. She then inserted one of Huo Jingrui’s homemade arrows into the packet, ensuring that when it landed, the packet would break apart completely and scatter the Sleeping Drug.

Once everything was ready, Yunyi returned to her original spot. She drew the bow a few times, making adjustments, then shot the arrow.

The instant the arrowhead hit the ground, the impact burst the packet, scattering the Sleeping Drug. In no time, they saw the ambushers pass out.
