Chapter 436: Harmony of opposing ’Paths’... Part-3.

*Boom!*

Riko clenched her sword tightly and sprinted towards Alverto at an extremely fast speed.

As she had already used the ’Burning Ember Pearl,’ she was now burning her own life force to improve her combat capabilities.

Thus, at this moment, her current strength increased to be equal to Rank S.

Due to her temporary increase in rank, she acquired the ability to walk in the void just like every other S ranker; thus, her speed while walking on the surface of the ocean became extremely fast.

”Hoh! Now this is interesting; your expression is making you look more like a bloodthirsty demon than me!”

”What was your name again? Ah, I remember it now, Riko Embeth, right?...”

”Forgive me for underestimating your spirit up until now, but by putting your own life at stake just for the sake of your loved ones, you have earned my respect as a fellow warrior...”

”I shall remember your name, Riko Embeth!”

[Soul Resonance!]

[Spirit Bane Spear Art: Passive Type: Soul Decay!]

A smirk appeared on Alverto’s face under the helmet as his spear’s tip easily stopped Riko’s incoming sword attack.

*Crack!*

As if some unknown force had hit her with an invisible attack, Riko felt as if something shattered inside of her body.

*Cough!* *Cough!*

She immediately started coughing out blood nonstop, and a look of horror appeared on her face.

Just one attack from Alverto was enough to instantly put her in a big disadvantage despite the fact that his attack didn’t even hit her directly.

Seeing this weird scene, a look of vigilance appeared on Lia’s face as she immediately flapped her wings to rush forward.

She grabbed Riko by the collar and dragged her away in a hurry.

Alverto just looked at all this and didn’t even bother to stop her; he just stood on the spot and spoke in his usual calm tone.

”She’s already as good as dead, don’t bother with her, she’s dying a warrior’s death...”

”Just come and face me instead... I wonder if you will be able to survive the same attack, though...”

A grim look appeared on Lia’s face hearing those words.

’What kind of attack was that, Kai!? His spear didn’t even touch her and she looks as if she’s already losing herself...’

[Ugh, this is really difficult... you have got yourself in a big trouble right now, Lia...]

[This is no ordinary attack... This is the effect caused by the legendary skill, ’Soul Resonance’...]

Lia’s eyes narrowed at the mention of the word ’Soul Resonance’.

Soul Resonance is an extremely potent type of legendary skill; it’s main ability is to affect the ’Soul’.

Once someone masters it to the point of 50% or above, they are able to unlock a unique power that lets them imbue their body or anything that’s in contact with their body with ’Soul Decay’.

Just a touch of ’Soul Decay’ is enough to cause your very ’Soul’ to start decaying at an extremely fast speed.

[What Alverto did just now is that he imbued his spear with ’Soul Decay,’ and as his Spear’s tip touched Riko’s sword that was imbued in her mana...]

[He used that mana to cause ’Soul Decay’ to her Soul...]

A person’s mana is also an extension of their body; it’s like a part of your own body, so even if your mana gets touched by ’Soul Decay,’ the ’Soul’ will still get affected.

’This is absolutely insane...’

[It is... All people with legendary skills in their possession are crazily overpowered; this is a well-known fact in the entire world...]

’How do you even counter something like this, If I don’t use mana to imbue my sword, it will break from his attack...’

’And if I imbue it, I can’t afford to get my sword hit by him... that’s even more difficult...’

[Well, the best way to counter the effects of a legendary skill is to use another legendary skill against it...]

[You have your ’Foresight’; use it to avoid his attack, use my spirit energy to imbue your sword...]

[My soul is that of an SS-ranker despite me being weaker than I was in my prime days..]

[Unless he reverts back to being an SS-ranker, his ’Soul Resonance’ won’t have any effect on my soul unless he’s already mastered it beyond 95%...]

’This is a huge gamble...’

Lia gritted her teeth; she knew that this is going to be a very risky move.

It’s impossible to know whether Alverto has mastered ’Soul Resonance’ to 95% or not.

If he has already mastered it that point, then even Kai’s soul will not be immune to ’Soul Decay’ despite being an SS-ranker and Alverto being an S ranker.

Legendary skills are insanely overpowered, and once you master them beyond the 95%, they become so strong that even the ’Laws’ of the world start to bend to your will through them.

[We have no other choice right now, If Rio or Link were here, then it would have been possible to easily counter ’Soul Decay’...]

[But they are not here so we have to make do with what we have right now...]

[By the way, place your palm on Riko’s forehead; I will use a soul seal to temporarily stabilize her state for now...]

Lia immediately placed her palm on Riko’s forehead, and a warm spiritual current passed into her body.

[Divine Spirit’s Blessing: Seal of Soul Barrier!]

With the seal placed on her soul, Riko finally gained her sanity back, and a look of clarity appeared in her eyes.

”This seal can only temporarily hold your soul in place, your soul is already starting to shatter bit by bit, you don’t have more than an hour left to live...”

Kai told Lia about all this, so she immediately conveyed it to Riko with immense sadness in her voice.

Hearing those depressing words from Lia, Riko didn’t show any regret; instead, a look of craziness and excitement appeared on her face.

”One hour? That’s enough time! I will kill him before that’s over, ahahahah!!! Cough!! Haha!!”

Her eyes started to bleed tears of blood, and she kept coughing blood, but the look of madness on her face became even more solid.

She didn’t even care about her own life and death anymore.

With this, she reached the final stage of her ’Path of Revenge,’ which gave her a more powerful boost to her powers once again!

[Fallen Beast Sword Art: Dance of Blood and Death!]

Riko raised her sword and charged towards Alverto once again without a single care in the world.

Seeing this scene, Lia had no choice but to join the battle.

[Silver Lion Sword Art: Thousand Claw Thrust!]

Lia covered her sword in spirit energy and launched a thousand thrust attacks to divert Alverto’s attention from Riko for even just a single millisecond.

She knew that her attack wouldn’t do much harm to him, but if she could create opportunities for Riko, then things might actually work out.

She is still just an A rank, and landing a proper fatal attack on a peak S ranker like Alverto is near impossible for her.

In fact, even trying to fight a Peak S ranker with her current strength is already a huge death gamble.

No sane person would try to do that; the reason she’s even trying to fight is because she has people standing behind her who she needs to protect.

If she doesn’t fight, then Alverto will go above to kill Riya and Jin; she can’t let that happen as long as she’s standing.

”Pointless!! You think that by using underhanded means you can become as strong as me!?”

”The skill that you are so desperately trying to counter is just one of the thousands of deadly skills that I have got in my arsenal!”

”In fact, ’Soul Decay’ isn’t even among my top ten most powerful skills! You are really thinking too highly of yourself!”

Alverto swung his spear in a horizontal manner in front of him as he spoke,

[Chronos: Time Lapse: Instantaneous Attack Decay!]

As if Lia and Riko’s attack never had any power to it, both of their attacks lost speed and momentum in an instant when they were just about to hit Alverto.

Both of their attacks didn’t even manage to cause a single scratch on his armor.

’This is insanity...’

[Time lapse... he caused a time lapse and time became fast for your ’attacks’; thus, as time passed, your attacks lost power...]

[This is really insane... just how much control he have over the ’time’ elemental!?]

[Despite the fact that he doesn’t even have ’Shard of Chronos,’ he’s still able to use time elementals to such level!?]

Even Kai was shocked to the point that he couldn’t believe his eyes.

[I have never seen someone so insanely overpowered in my entire life except for the Dragon King and King Reinhart...]

”Tch, again!”

Ignoring the fact that her attacks got reduced to nothing, Lia once again grabbed Riko and made some distance before trying to attack once again.

She knew that all this was just a pointless waste of time.

But wasting time was her real motive from the very start, so she didn’t care.

Despite the fact that Riko was using the power of a completely different ’Path’ than hers, Lia still did her best to keep her alive.

Although she could not do any damage to Alverto, her ’Foresight’ ability allowed her to easily dodge any attacks that Alverto was trying to use.

She might not succeed in a head on battle, but keeping Alverto busy for a few minutes has become possible now that Riko is with her.

The ’paths’ that Lia and Riko chose to walk are completely opposite to each other.

Yet, at this moment, the two are able to give their all just for the sake of a common goal.

Perhaps this is what they call ’The Harmony of Opposing Paths.’.
