“Are you talking about a financial allocation?”

“Of course not. If this would have worked, Dongsan County wouldn’t have gotten this bad.” Lin Yi said.

“I think it’s more feasible to give up the land for investments.”

“The county has already thought of this before, but those big companies are not fools. All of them are smart.” Li Qingkai said.

“There’s nothing in our small county town. All the young people have left. Who’s going to build a factory here?”

“That depends on our ability to attract investments.” Lin Yi said.

“It’s the only solution I can think of.”

“That’s a good idea, but it’s not as simple as you think,” Li Qingkai said regretfully.

“They’ve been trying every year. The county is just short of giving away land for free, but it’s still ineffective.”

“Let me try this.”

Li Qingkai’s eyes lit up as if he had thought of something.

Lin Yi came here to work and drove a million yuan car. His family background should be quite good. Perhaps he really had connections in this area.

If he tried his best to help, it might really work.

“How about this? 1’11 introduce the people from the Merchants Association to you. You guys can discuss this matter and try to make something happen.”

“Sure,” Lin Yi said.

“Come with me. I’ll take you there.”

The two of them got up and left the office. They went to the business sponsorship office on the fourth floor.

As soon as he pushed open the door, he could smell the strong fragrance of tea.

There were two people in the office. One was a middle-aged man in his forties. He was dressed similarly to Li Qingkai. He wore reading glasses and was reading the newspaper.

Opposite his desk sat a young woman in her early thirties, about the same age as Liang Ruoxu.

She had long wavy hair and was wearing blue jeans and flat shoes. She was dressed in a Western-style and was completely different from the people in the county. She looked more like she was from a big city.

At this moment, she was brewing some tea on her desk. There were many snacks and fruits in front of her computer.

She didn’t look like he was working at all. She looked more like he was on an outing.

County offices operate like this; when they’re busy, they’re in a frenzy, and when they’re not, they have plenty of free time,

“Director Li is here.”

Seeing Li Qingkai come in, the middle-aged man put down the newspaper and stood up to greet him.

“Director Li.” The young woman greeted him and subconsciously glanced at Lin Yi.

She had long heard about Lin Yi.

He knew that a handsome young man had joined the Office of Poverty Alleviation. She had not seen him for the past few days, but she did not expect him to take the initiative to come to her office.

“Director Wang, let me introduce you.” Li Qingkai smiled and said.

“This is the new deputy director of our office, Lin Yi.”

“Little Lin, this is Wang Lijun, the director of the Merchants Association. This is Deputy Director Guo Lu.”

Lin Yi extended his hand in greeting.

“You brought this guy here for something, right?” Wang Lijun said with a smile.

“Do you need more people for your game of poker?”

“Don’t talk nonsense. It’s working hours now,” Li Qingkai said with a smile.

“We just had a meeting to discuss the possibility of working on attracting investment. I’ve assigned this task to Little Lin, but he’s not an expert in investment attraction. I’m wondering if we can have Little Guo cooperate on this. If we manage to achieve good results, both of our departments will benefit.”

Upon hearing that they were here for business, Guo Lu’s expression changed.

Her family was from Yuhang and was quite established. She came here to gild herself. After working for a year and a half, she would be transferred back to Yuhang City.

Hence, she only wanted to slack off here and not work.

Instinctively, Guo Lu looked at Lin Yi and complained in her heart.

He was quite handsome, but why couldn’t he see the situation clearly?

Did he really think that he could win an important position and get promoted just because he worked hard?

One department focuses on poverty alleviation, and the other on investment attraction. It was clear that they wouldn’t be able to achieve any results in a place like Dongsan County.

“That’s good.”

Wang Lijun said, “Coincidentally, they’re both young people. I’ll let Little Guo follow him to train her up.”

Guo Lu looked troubled. “Brother Wang, you know the situation in the county. Every year we fail to recruit investors…”

“Although this is the situation, we still have to fulfill our obligation to try.” Wang Lijun said.

“Besides, you’ve been here for more than half a year. It’s not good for you to sit in the office every day. It’s best if you can run around a bit.”

“Got it, Brother Wang.”

Knowing that she could not refuse, Guo Lu readily agreed.

If you didn’t know how to listen to your superiors, you wouldn’t get very far in your career.

“Alright, you two go ahead. If there’s anything, you two can discuss it.”

“Got it.”

Guo Lu packed up and the two of them walked out of the office one after another.

Guo Lu, who had a serious expression on her face, became cold after leaving the office. She did not say a word to Lin Yi.

“Are you driving this car?” Guo Lu pointed at the Willing Hongguang at the door.

“What else? You want to take a taxi?”

“Forget it. Let’s drive my car.” Guo Lu’s expression was disdainful. She took out her car key. It was a Mercedes-Benz C-class.

Now Lin Yi was sure that she wasn’t here for proper work.

Either her family wasn’t short of money, or she was here to gain work experience.

In short, she did not seem like the type who took this seriously.

“We might have to take the dirt road later. Won’t your heart ache if you scrape the chassis?”

“Um…”

Guo Lu stopped in her tracks. “Forget it then.”

After getting in Lin Yi’s Willing Hongguang in disdain, Guo Lu said,

“You’re from the Office of Poverty Alleviation. Why are you trying to get investors?”

“Isn’t getting business investors one of the important ways to alleviate poverty? Otherwise, where would the taxes and jobs come from?”

“I know you are trying to impress them, but you have to understand the situation in Dongsan County. They try to recruit businesses every year, but there’s been no success. Why do you still want to try?”

“What else should we do? Do you watch dramas, drink tea, and eat snacks in the office every day?”

“Why not? There’s nothing to do.”

Guo Lu pulled her seatbelt over. “If something like this happens again, you can go alone. Don’t drag me along.”

“If you don’t want to go, you can get out of the car. 1 didn’t ask you to go.”

“Why are you so rude?” Guo Lu said.

“Brother Wang sent me out, how am I supposed to go back?”

“Then you should stop talking.”

With that, Lin Yi started the car and drove towards his destination.

Half an hour later, Lin Yi stopped at a highway intersection.

He originally thought that this was an empty space, but not far away, he spotted two lonely three-story buildings.

“What’s the story with this building? Why did the construction stop after the

foundation was built?”
