656 The Smell of Gunpowder Before the Family Banquet

Ji Qingyan walked over and helped Wang Cuiping wipe her tears.

“Aunty, don’t cry. This had nothing to do with you. No one wanted this to happen.”

“I was careless.” Wang Cuiping wiped her tears and said,

“In the future, unless their biological parents come for them, I won’t send any of them away.”

!!
“Yes, yes, yes. I’m sure you’ll take good care of them.” Lin Yi smiled and comforted her.

“My son is rich. I can afford to raise dozens more, let alone the dozens of children I have right now.”

Zhao Quanfu handed her a piece of paper. “Why are you crying? Your son and daughter-in-law are both here. Aren’t you embarrassed?”

“One of them is my son, and the other is my daughter-in-law. Why would I be embarrassed?” Wang Cuiping said.

“Son, are you going to have dinner with Little Yue tonight? Take a good look at her partner. If his character is bad, don’t let her continue the relationship. I don’t care about you little brats, but you have to find a good family for these little girls.”

“Don’t worry about this. We’ll help you check him thoroughly. Nothing will happen to her.”

Ring!

Just as Lin Yi finished speaking, his phone rang. It was a call from Guo Ningyue.

“Brother, I’ve found the place. It’s called Langtao Sands, you should know where it is, right? Dinner is at 5:30. See you there.”

“Alright, I understand.”

Lin Yi looked at his watch and saw that it was already five o’clock.

“Mom, Ningyue called. I’ll go over and see her now.”

“Go quickly and take a good look at her boyfriend.” Wang Cuiping said, “That girl is not cunning at all. Don’t let others deceive her again.”

Ji Qingyan had a smile on her face. For all these years, she and Uncle Zhao had supported such a big welfare home. They must have been worried sick.

After saying their goodbyes, the two of them hailed a cab and headed to Langtao Sands. Ji Qingyan even touched up her makeup in the car.

It seemed like she was trying to steal the limelight.

In Yangcheng, Langtao Sands was considered a relatively high-end restaurant.

However, the management concept of this place was a little different.

Although the taste of the dishes was not bad, it was not top-notch.

Even a restaurant that was slightly inferior to it might taste slightly better.

However, its boss was someone who knew how to do business.

Because of this, eating here felt better than going to a Michelin-star restaurant.

Secondly, the most important factor to consider was that it was also expensive.

This was definitely enough.

If he treated them to a meal here, to a large extent, it would show his attitude toward them.

At this moment, there were three people standing at the door of Langtao Sands.

In addition to Guo Ningyue, there was a man and a woman.

The boy beside Guo Ningyue was half a head taller than her.

He was wearing a simple casual outfit with a Green Rolex on his hand. His hair was also permed, and he was dressed very formally.

This boy was her boyfriend, Qu Xuanhe.

Beside Qu Xuanhe was a tall girl with an exquisite face.

She was wearing a black dress, flesh-colored stockings, and black high heels. She held a limited edition LV handbag in her hand and did not say a word.

The woman’s name was Qu Bing, and she was Qu Xuanhe’s cousin. The two of them grew up together and had a good relationship.

This time, she discovered that Guo Ningyue had brought her younger brother to meet her brother and sister-in-law. The Qu family also attached great importance to this matter.

However, they also knew that as elders, it was not appropriate for them to attend such an occasion.

Hence, they sent Qu Bing over to support Qu Xuanhe. Otherwise, he might be bullied by everyone from the girl’s side of the family.

“Do you think it’s too extravagant for me to have chosen this place?” Guo Ningyue asked softly.

Qu Xuanhe turned around to take a look. “It’s alright. It’s not very expensive. Moreover, it’s a meeting between the brother and sister-in-law. It’s only right to be more formal.”

“Yes, that’s what I thought,” Guo Ningyue said.

“This is the first time we’re meeting. We have to be more formal. There’s no need to be like this when we meet again.”

Qu Bing stood at the side and did not say anything. What the two of them said made sense.

“Also, don’t be sloppy. My brother and sister-in-law will be here soon,” Guo Ningyue said.

“It’s fine,” Qu Xuanhe said. “I’ve even permed my hair. Don’t I look proper enough?”

“Your posture isn’t perfect. Stop smoking. My brother and sister-in-law don’t smoke.”

“Uh, is this necessary? It’s not like I’m meeting your parents. Can’t young people be more casual with each other?”

“I just want you to leave a good impression on my brother,” Guo Ningyue said.

“Also, don’t act like a rich young master when we eat later. Keep a low profile. My brother and sister-in-law are quite rich. In any case, don’t pretend.”

“Um…”

Qu Xuanhe pursed his lips. How rich could a child who grew up in an orphanage be without the help of his parents?

Could it be that in her eyes, a well-off family was considered rich?

What kind of logic was this?

“I’ll make a call first and ask my brother when they’ll arrive.”

Because Qu Bing was joining them Guo Ningyue did not want to keep her waiting.

Qu Bing’s expression was a little unnatural. She gently touched Qu Xuanhe and whispered while Guo Ningyue was on the phone,

“What’s wrong with your girlfriend? Is she trying to intimidate you?”

“Hmm? What do you mean by that?”

“She reminded you that their family is rich.”

“Didn’t you have dinner with Ningyue before? Don’t you know what kind of person she is?”

“Ningyue is indeed not bad, but the stuff she’s saying today is so unpleasant.” Qu Bing said.

“Our Qu family has been doing business for so many years, but we’ve never dared to say that we’re rich in front of outsiders. She’s obviously trying to intimidate us.”

“Well …”

Qu Xuanhe did not know what to say. He also felt that Ningyue’s words were a little too much.

It was not that he looked down on them, but it was already pretty good even if children from orphanages did not study in famous schools.

In this society, it was probably harder for them to ascend to the heavens than to be ‘rich’.

After all, in a big city, having a few million yuan was really nothing. At most, it was just a small amount of money.

Just like what her cousin said, the Qu family did not even say that they were rich. It was even more inappropriate for Ningyue to say that.

“Alright, let’s not talk about this for now. We’re already here and we are meeting for the first time. We’re going to get married.”

“No one is stopping you from getting married.” Qu Bing said.

“But today’s meal is a little like you meeting their parents. I’ll definitely help you fight this battle. I can’t let her brother criticize you and bully you.”

Qu Xuanhe glanced at his cousin. “You dressed like this today on purpose, right?”

“How is it? I’m dressed well, right?” Qu Bing said.

“I wanted to wear black at first, but your aunt said that it would be too high-profile, so I changed to a pair of flesh-colored clothes.”

“My dear sister, you have to keep a low profile and hold your glib tongue. Today is not about business. It’s about harmony.”

“Look at what you’re saying. You make me sound like a she-devil.” Qu Bing said.

“We’re talking about the matter and not the person. If you’re too high-profile, I won’t get any words in.”

“Who can be so high-profile when they see someone with an aura as powerful as Boss Qu?” Qu Xuanhe teased.

“Hmph, as long as you know this.”

“Alright, stop talking. Ningyue is here.”

After hanging up the phone, Guo Ningyue walked over. “My brother said he’ll be here soon. There’s a traffic jam on the way. My brother and his girlfriend have been living in Zhonghai for a long time. They haven’t been back to Yangcheng for a long time, so they’re not very familiar with the road conditions here. I gave them the wrong time to start driving.”

“It’s fine. It’s just a few more minutes. It’s not a big deal.”

Qu Bing stood at the side and did not speak. He must feel superior to the locals here because he lived in Zhonghai.

Still, Yangcheng, was not bad either.

She hoped that they would not be too arrogant later.

Otherwise, she would have to say something.
