Immortality Through Array Formations

Chapter 2604: Chapter 54: Wutu Tribe (3)

Inside the tribe, there are large and small tents.

The tents are made from tattered monster beasts’ fur combined with some coarse hemp.

Inside the tribe, the decorations and furnishings also have a strong Great Wilderness style.

But rather than a tribe, it actually resembles a small impoverished and destitute village.

The people in the tribe are not many, only about five or six hundred, and the majority are the elderly, the weak, the sick, and the disabled, with very few young and strong individuals.

Outside the tribe, some fences have been set up.

On these fences, some roughly drawn formation patterns are painted to guard against monster beasts and foreign enemies.

But for Mo Hua, these are merely decorations.

He concealed himself, entered the tribe’s settlement, and in the largest tent of the tribe, he detected the presence of the Barbarian Tribes elder named ”Zamu”.

Mo Hua moved like a ghost, silently entering the tent.

The inside of the tent was quite spacious, but the furnishings were also very simple.

The Barbarian Tribes elder named ”Zamu” was looking after his grandson with a worried face.

”A few days of rest will be fine,” Mo Hua said blandly.

Elder Zamu was startled and turned to see when the mysterious young man had already settled on a chair inside the tent, browsing some tribal records on the table.

Elder Zamu suppressed the unease and fear in his heart, clasped his hands, and bowed, saying:

”Greetings, Senior.”

Being called ”Senior” by an elder older than himself felt strange to Mo Hua.

But when traveling outside, one should not easily reveal one’s background.

The more ”misunderstandings” others have about him, the better.

The more misunderstandings, the further from the truth they are.

Mo Hua’s expression was calm as he pointed to the stone stool opposite, ”Sit.”

Elder Zamu obediently sat down, his expression still apprehensive.

Mo Hua glanced at him and said, ”Your grandson is not to be overly worried about. Instead, you, your divine sense is severely injured.”

”Injuries to the divine sense, unlike flesh wounds, may not be apparent on normal days but occasionally cause stabbing-like pain, invisible and difficult to heal.”

Elder Zamu bowed and said, ”Thank you, Senior, for the guidance; however, I am already like decaying wood, whether I live or die, there is nothing left to care about.”

Mo Hua nodded and asked, ”What is the Barbarian God?”

Elder Zamu’s heart trembled slightly; after thinking for a while, he slowly said, ”The Barbarian God... is the deity worshipped by our Barbarian Tribes.”

Mo Hua asked, ”Is it truly a god?”

Elder Zamu didn’t know how to respond, so he said:

”Hidden in the invisible, with mysterious and immeasurable powers, able to aid our people in survival, growth, and defense against foreign enemies, which can be called ’god.’ Since it is the god of our Barbarian Tribes, it is called the ’Barbarian God.’”

Mo Hua nodded slightly, understanding in his heart.

These Barbarian Tribes, in reality, know nothing.

As long as it’s something within ”divine thought” that can help them, whether demon, ghost, or monster, they will revere it as a deity.

As for whether or not it is truly a ”god,” they don’t understand, or rather, they don’t need to understand.

Even if such ”deity” requires eating their children, it doesn’t matter to them.

Of course, they have no other options.

Even some mountain spirits, ghosts, and evil spirits, or demon monsters are not something an ordinary cultivator can handle.

This Elder Zamu, having learned some witchcraft and spiritual techniques, is already considered quite strong. But in truth, if he were to confront that Barbarian God, he’d still have no chance of victory.

Even if that Barbarian God were merely some unknown mountain spirit or ghost.

Elder Zamu glanced at Mo Hua, not daring to ask much, but anxious in his heart, he had to ask, eventually summoning the courage to slowly say:

”Senior, I wonder about the Wutu God...”

”What?” Mo Hua was slightly taken aback.

This Elder Zamu spoke with the Barbarian Tribes’ accent, so he didn’t understand immediately.

Elder Zamu repeated, ”The Wutu God...”

He added, ”It is the Barbarian God that our Wutu Clan worships, sharp-faced and clawed, with a grand stature. The place where I met Senior is the temple gate where offerings are made to the Wutu God...”

Mo Hua acknowledged with an ”Oh.”

It turns out that the ”Barbarian God” he killed with one punch even had a name.

He didn’t even know its name when he killed it.

Elder Zamu’s cloudy eyes contained an underlying hope as he looked at Mo Hua, seeming to want to hear what he hoped for, but fearing to hear a different truth.

The tribe and the deity are a paradoxical unity.

If the deity shelters the tribe, then the tribe can flourish and grow.

If the deity is insatiably greedy, then the tribe will eventually only decline.

And now the Wutu God has evidently become a ”malevolent god.” If his ”dreamland” is false, and the Wutu God still exists, one day, it will unleash its wrath upon them, and the Wutu Tribe will have no path but extinction.

This matter, he must confirm; otherwise, a catastrophe is sure to happen.

Mo Hua didn’t really want to speak.

Killing the Barbarian God, eating the Barbarian God, such matters are best kept low profile.

However, seeing Elder Zamu’s furrowed brow filled with fear and trepidation, Mo Hua fell silent again.

To him, this was just a trivial matter.

But if Elder Zamu doesn’t clarify it, he may live in fear for the rest of his life.

Mo Hua thought for a moment, then simply said:

”Your Wutu God, you don’t need to send it offerings anymore.”

Elder Zamu was stunned.

”It can’t eat the offerings anymore...” Mo Hua said.

Because I ate it.

Elder Zamu’s whole body trembled, and his aged eyes revealed a glimmer of hope.

He prostrated in gratitude towards Mo Hua:

”The great kindness and virtue of Senior, the Wutu Tribe will never forget.”

Mo Hua merely said indifferently, ”I did nothing.”

Upon hearing this, Elder Zamu immediately felt a chill in his heart and said solemnly, ”I understand, Old and humble one.”

Mo Hua nodded, quite pleased with Elder Zamu’s discernment, and suddenly he recalled a question, asking:

”The Wutu God... do all the Barbarian Gods here have their own names?”

Elder Zamu nodded, ”Usually they are named after mountains, rivers... the majority are named after the tribe.”

Mo Hua asked, ”How many tribes are there in your Great Wilderness?”

Elder Zamu said, ”According to the ancients, there are three thousand mountains and three thousand clans in the Great Wilderness.”

”Three thousand!” Mo Hua was shocked, quickly asking, ”Then your Barbarian Gods, aren’t there three thousand of them as well?”

Elder Zamu was slightly stunned, not understanding why this seemingly calm and unfathomable ”Senior” was suddenly so excited.

”These three thousand are not an exact number; they fluctuate with the rise and fall of clans, sometimes more, sometimes less, but generally, it’s about that...” Elder Zamu explained.

But before he could finish, Mo Hua said, ”Help me with something...”

He took out paper and pen, handing them to the bewildered Elder Zamu:

”Write down the names, families, addresses, and ways of worship of the Barbarian Gods you know for me...”
