30 I’m From the Cookhouse
”Twenty thousand a month? Do you think you are a bodyguard from Beijing?” asked Chen Fan with an annoyed expression.

”A bodyguard from Beijing?” The stubborn looking young man looked up and thought for a moment. ”I am not a bodyguard from Beijing, but with my skills, getting a salary of 20,000 RMB per month is not a problem!”

”Oh, what skills do you have?” Chen Fan was interested. The way this young man spoke was a little boastful, so he was either an idiot or someone who really had some skills.

”Well, I have no difficulties in beating them up.” The arrogant look on his face was exactly the same as his tone of voice.

”What did you mean by that?” The men that were standing next to him were enraged after hearing him saying that, but they controlled themselves as to not start a fight.

This guy isn’t a psycho, is he? Chen Fan was a little worried as he often saw people streaking in the streets, so it was possible that this guy could be just as nuts! ”Well, you all should just follow me and have a fist- fight on the lawn beside the Xingning River. I will hire the top five!” All the men in front of him were fit and muscular. Any one of them would be able to intimidate the others. After the matter was settled and the bodyguard chosen, Chen Fan could hire the remaining men as laborers!

The arrogant looking young man shrugged his shoulders. ”Sure!”

”Come on, we’ll see what you’re made of!” The five men beside him were in the same boat. The Xingning River was a man-made river flowing in the middle of the city. Over the last few years, the government had put in a lot of effort to go green. Now, both sides of the river were planted with many trees in an area 20 meters wide and many people came here every morning to exercise.

”Well, let me just be clear here. This is only a friendly match so I hope nobody gets hurt in the end!” The young man softened his tone and no longer had a look of arrogance. ”Are you afraid? It’s too late to turn back now anyway!”

The five men circled him with sly grins on their faces as if they were toying with a vulnerable little girl. Just as a few of them were about to hit him, the young man suddenly looked up with an expression of awe and said, ”Hey! Look, there’s a UFO in the sky!”

”Where?” Chen Fan and all five men automatically raised their heads to look at the sky! After seeing all of them look up, the young man who previously had a startled expression on his face took a sudden step forward like a gust of wind! This step was a great leap, and he stepped right on the foot of the person in front of him. Then, he jerked up his right hand. Laying his hand on the person’s chest, he bent his legs and with a twist of his waist, delivered a blow with his right fist. The man in front of him lost his balance and just as he was trying to balance himself by stumbling a few steps back, he tripped unexpectedly over a leg!

”Ah!” The man only had time to let out a cry before falling on the lawn two feet away. After kicking the man, the young man immediately pulled back his left leg, turned and gave out another kick with his right leg. Bang! A grunt was heard when he knocked one of the men hard on the left side of his body.

”Ah!” The strength of the young man was even stronger than a bull. In an area less than a meter of space, he was able to hit a strong young man weighing 75 kilograms and make him land three meters away from him.

What the...? Chen Fan rubbed his eyes in disbelief!

It was not an illusion… Out of the five people who were still standing, in just a single moment, two had been kicked back several meters, whereas the remaining three were staring, dumbfounded, at the young man..

”Hey boy, you are playing dirty!” The man on the left stepped forward and leaped up into mid-air. The remaining two men also quickly sprung into action. One of them swept the air with his thigh while the other balled up his fists! The sly, tough young man did not retreat. Instead, he hooked onto the leg that was about to kick him as quick as lightning. It was hard to imagine how powerful the young man’s arms were. He was able to swing the man to the side of the lawn only with his arms bent without relying on the power of his waist.

Bang!

The young man raised his left leg high up to his chest and clasped the leg that was about to hit him. What was even more jaw-dropping was…

After the young man secured the leg, he lifted his left leg high up and stretched it out into a straight line. With a twist of his right foot, he threw the man a few meters away.

After immobilizing his first opponent, he turned to block the other man’s fist. Once again, the young man carried out his lightning speed stun, gripped hold of the fist and flashed an evil smile.

”Ouch... Ah... Ouch... Stop...stop hurting me... It hurts... Ouch... Stop... It really hurts...” The man’s face flushed red and knelt down on the floor to beg for forgiveness!

”This is what happens when you all do not believe me. All of you just forced me to give a live demonstration!” The young man released his right hand and his expression returned to the same old lazy and arrogant look.

”Wow, that was freaking amazing!” Chen Fan was startled when he saw his performance. Chen Fan had a cousin back in his hometown who could beat up two big men without any weapons after only two years of army training. However, this guy took only about 10 seconds to beat his opponents and these guys were the from the field army, the navy, the ace brigade…

”I’ve decided that I only want you and not anyone else!” Chen Fan clapped his hands excitedly. ”Let’s go, follow me to sign the contract!”

It was difficult to describe the feelings of the remaining five men. There was a mixture of shock, annoyance, regret, and envy.

”Brother, how about we sit down and talk over a cup of tea?” Walking on the road, Chen Fan rubbed his hands as he smiled.

”Sure!” The young man nodded with ease. ”By the way, I’m Wang Bing!”

After randomly selecting a well-furnished tea house, Chen Fan ordered a pot of Longjing tea worth 88 RMB and both of them sat down at a table that was beside the window.

”Are you hiring a bodyguard for your boss? Or...” Wang Bing went straight to the topic just after he sat down!

”I need one for myself!” Chen Fan shook his head bitterly and said, ”Brother Wang, to tell you the truth, I got into trouble with a tough gangster a few days ago. He hit me once and I punched him twice, so logically speaking, it would be his turn to bring people to my house. That’s why I want to hire a few skillful bodyguards to ensure my own safety!”

”You want to hire five bodyguards to settle things with one gangster?” Wang Bing looked puzzled. ”Even if you’re rich, you shouldn’t waste money like that!”

”This local gangster is very powerful, plus the conflict between us is already to the point of no turning back!”

”By the way, Brother Wang, are you a local?”

Wang Bing looked up and said, ”Yes, my hometown is in Heqiao, but I went back only once or twice throughout my seven years of military service.”

”Brother Wang, you have been in the military for seven years?”

”Yeah, I could have continued, but I broke the chief’s ribs in the military camp recently. I was grounded for a dozen days and was sent back home after that!”

Wang Bing said with a sigh, ”Three generations of my family were soldiers, so I am not able to face my family after being kicked out of the army. Thus, I decided to find a job here and try to earn some money before going back!”

”What type of soldier?” Chen Fan asked with curiosity. ”Marines? Snow Leopard Commando Unit? Rapid response forces? Or special forces?”

”Neither!” Wang Bing shook his head. ”I was a cook in one of the divisions of Nanjing military area.”
