Chapter 66 Moving with the Wind

Ever since the habitable satellites in the frontier galaxy were blown up, the cloud surrounding the Beichen Third Fleet has not dissipated.

At the very beginning, the Central Military Department told the outside world that the accidental bombing was due to an error in the internal command of the military department system. After the matter developed further, the military department changed its rhetoric again. In their words, the military department’s order did make a mistake, but the order passed on to the Beichen Third Fleet was correct, and the mistakes in the execution process should be made by the first The commander and executor of the Third Fleet is in charge.

In other words, we passed the correct order, but you misunderstood it, which led to the tragedy. The responsibility for this incident lies not with the military headquarters, but with Beichen Third Fleet.

After that, the investigation and evidence collection of the several orders at that time also showed that the last order of the military department was to attack the rebels, not to blow up the artificial satellite. All the evidence cannot prove that the Beichen Third Fleet received instructions to blow up the satellites.

The trial of Wei Zhijiang, represented by Professor Modi, also lost on this point. They didn’t have enough evidence to prove that the Third Fleet had received the order to attack the satellite, and there was no evidence that the Third Fleet had not been notified that there were civilians on the satellite. Therefore, Wei Zhijiang’s death sentence has almost no room for maneuver.

In today’s trial, the prosecutor accused Bai Qing of almost the same reason.

”As an officer who carried out the order, Lieutenant Colonel Bai Qing did not clearly understand the nature of the order. In fact, there were hundreds of thousands of civilians on the satellite at that time. Any soldier with a conscience, They will not carry out this cruel bombing order... Therefore, we believe that the crime of Lieutenant Colonel Bai Qing lies in the crime of dereliction of duty and the crime of killing residents during wartime.”

After the opposing public prosecutor conveyed his point of view, he sat down and looked at Yu Yimi with triumphant eyes, as if expecting how he could refute.

”The defense, please state its defense.” The presiding officer said.

Yimi nodded and stood up.The boy who was still in the puberty stage was half a head shorter than the judicial policemen around him, and this scene made the audience couldn’t help whispering.

”Too young.”

”quiet!”

The judge struck the gavel, ”Defense, state your case.”

You Yisi said, ”I would like to ask the prosecutor a few questions first, Your Excellency.”

”Related to the case?”

You Yisi nodded.

The judge allowed it.

”First of all, what I want to ask is that the other party blames Bai Qing and his superiors for attacking a satellite that still has a large number of civilians, which constitutes the crime of killing residents during wartime. Then, what I want to ask the other party is, do you have enough evidence to prove that The commander of the Beichen Third Fleet knew at the time that there were still civilians on this satellite?”

”This...” the public prosecutor frowned, ”It’s a living satellite, they should know about it, shouldn’t they?”

You Yisi smiled, and did not answer his rhetorical question, but continued: ”The second question, the military department said that the last order was to attack the rebels. However, Major General Wei argued that the last order he received was to attack the rebels. The order was to blow up the satellite. The two obviously conflict, right?”

The public prosecutor raised his eyebrows, ”Of course, but the evidence of the military command system shows that Major General Wei’s defense is not convincing. The last order of the day was to attack the rebels, not blow up the satellite.”

Yisi laughed, ”The evidence provided by the military proves that?”

”of course.”

”Is there any other evidence besides the data of the chain of command?”

”Joke, military orders will only be kept within the command system, how could they be leaked to other places?”

You Yisi: ”Then, apart from the Central Military Department, no outsiders can access the command system?”

Prosecutor: ”I believe in the secrecy technology of the military department, it is impossible for such an error to occur.” At this time, he looked at You Yisi, as if he was looking at a troublesome brat.

But at this moment, You Yisi stopped asking questions and said, ”Your Honor! This is my question.”

All eyes were on him.

You Yisi said: ”As the public prosecutor said, the command system of the military department can only be entered by the inside of the military department. This is a completely closed system, and within this system, the military department wants to prove its rhetoric. A simple matter. Please note, Your Honor, this is a solitary and unsupported evidence. The last order was to attack the rebels? Is there any other evidence to prove this except the records in the military department? And the records It is completely in the hands of the military itself, which means that they can say whatever they want.”

He smiled, ”It’s like asking a melon seller to prove that her own melons are sweet. Will she say no? Instead, she will show the best melons to prove that every melon she has sold before is sweet. All melons are sweet. And those that have been sold, if they have been eaten, who can prove that they are not sweet?”

There was an uproar in the audience, and there were many discussions! The public prosecutor blushed, stood up and sat down again, looking at You Yisi angrily.

”Are you slandering the military for fabricating evidence?!”

”Silence!” The judge slapped the gavel and frowned at You Yimi, ”Defender, are you willing to take responsibility for your words, are you accusing the military of falsifying evidence?”

”No, Your Honor.”

Yimi answered.Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, but the next second they heard him say: ”I’m just pointing out that the evidence provided by the military department alone cannot prove that Major General Wei did not receive the order to ’blow up the satellite’.”

”Then what about you, can you prove that Wei Zhijiang received the order to blow it up?” the prosecutor angrily said, ”He can’t prove his innocence at all!”

”Innocent!” You Yisi said loudly, ”Why does Major General Wei want to prove his innocence! Isn’t this your responsibility?”

What, what?Everyone was stunned, even the presiding judge sitting high on the judge’s seat looked at You Yisi in a daze.

The boy in the white uniform said slowly: ”You require the defendant to prove his innocence. Once he doesn’t have enough evidence to prove his innocence, he will be found guilty. What absurd logic? You can’t prove your innocence, that is. guilty?”

”Isn’t it?” the public prosecutor shot up.

You Yisi looked at him indifferently, ”Your Excellency, Public Prosecutor, may I ask if you have any special sexual fetishes?”

”Judge, I protest, the defender is slandering my personality.” The prosecutor said angrily.

There Masami: ”I make sure this issue is relevant to the case and am willing to take responsibility, Your Honor.”

Judge: ”Continue to ask questions.”

You Yisi smiled, ”May I ask if you have any special sexual fetishes?”

The public prosecutor said angrily, ”Of course not!”

”Oh, how do you prove it?” You Yisi asked back, ”According to the survey, one percent of the men in the Republic have sexual fetishes, one-third of them are abused lovers, and two-thirds are pedophiles. Just looking at the population base in the Republic, the number of these people can be called huge. However, before each case of sexual abuse of children is exposed, most people do not realize that the perpetrators have special sexual fetishes in this area. Because they hide it very well good.”

”That doesn’t prove I am!” the prosecutor roared.

”Then can you prove that you are not?” You Yisi said: ”According to statistical research, [-]% of people with bad sexual habits are white-collar workers or civil servants. Among them, people with high work pressure and fast-paced life are even more It’s easy to become a sex addict. And these people are often well-dressed and talented in front of people.” He looked at the other party with a smile, ”I think, Your Excellency seems to meet these conditions.”

”You! You bastard! Talking nonsense!”

”Oh, irritability is also one of the characteristics of a sex addict.” You Yimi said indifferently, ”Now, please prove that you are not an abnormal sex addict, please present enough evidence to convince me. Of course, it is best to have sufficient evidence. Including Testimonies from bed partners throughout history, records of your daily life, growth environment reports, behavioral personality analysis, and family history, etc. If you can’t convince me in the end, then I think you are a pedophile.

The public prosecutor has been driven mad by You Yisi, and said frantically, ”Why do you say that! How can I gather so much evidence?!”

You Yimi’s eyes lit up, and he caught his words.

”Yes, why should I? Your honor, members of the jury.” He faced the trial seat and said, ”It’s just like the other party’s answer when I questioned the public prosecutor just now. It is almost impossible for a defendant to prove his innocence. It is impossible. Because the prosecution often holds a lot of unfavorable evidence, and it is difficult for the defendant to obtain favorable evidence due to limited conditions! At this time, it is actually very unfair to put the burden of proof on the defendant. way of doing.”

You Yisi said solemnly: ”Our public prosecutor almost got the name of a pedophile because of this, which shows it.”

The prosecutor was already vomiting blood with anger.

”In fact, as I argued in my paper on Star Law. The burden of proving his innocence should not be on the accused person, it should be on the prosecution. If the prosecution fails to present a strong case, there is no doubt that Prove that the accused is guilty. Then, the accused is innocent!”

You Yisi said loudly: ”Living under the radiance of the Star Code, each of us is a free citizen. A free citizen should not bear the responsibility of proving himself guilty. That is an act that violates the instinct of intelligent life! Just imagine , if we have to prove our innocence in the face of every unreasonable accusation. Then, human beings living in this world are not free from birth to death. We do not live in the eyes of others, but for Live by yourself!”

”In this society, if someone is charged with a crime because he cannot prove his innocence, that is the greatest misfortune of this civilization!”

Yu Yimi’s last words fell into everyone’s ears sonorously and forcefully. At that moment, everyone looked at him, from surprise to surprise, and then to admiration.

Free people, do not take the burden of proving yourself guilty!

This sentence echoed in everyone’s ears and opened a new door for them.

”Therefore, we believe that the single evidence provided by the military department is not absolutely conclusive, and as far as I know, the command records of the military department can be deleted internally with the highest authority. Therefore, the other party cannot prove that the Third Fleet did not receive Unless the military department notarizes the records of the command system to prove that no record has been deleted. Otherwise, we have sufficient reasons to believe that the accusation is not established. My client and his The superiors are innocent.”

Does the military dare to do notarization?Leaving aside the fact that the command records cannot be disclosed because they involve confidentiality, it is enough to give a negative answer just as to whether those guilty people have the courage to disclose them.

Looking at the silent scene, You Yisi finally showed the happiest smile since entering the arena.

”That concludes my statement of defense. May the sword of justice and the scales of justice bless you, Your Honor.”

The presiding judge cast complicated gazes at You Yimi and smiled wryly. Is this young defender reminding him of a fair trial?

So, that’s all there is to it, is there another answer?

After the internal review was over, looking at the quiet public prosecutor and the young defender, the presiding judge finally dropped the gavel.

”The case of Lieutenant Colonel Bai Qing, the verdict is now—”
