Brother Dao Took the Entertainment Industry by Storm, Fans Beg Me Not to Kill Anymore

Chapter 387: Visiting Lu Yuxi

It turned out that when something itself becomes a source of heat, everyone’s actions are aimed at generating even more heat to keep that momentum going.

Xiao He originally thought that their visit to the hospital to see Lu Yuxi, along with taking some photos for publicity, was already a fairly hypocritical kind of thing. He never expected there were even higher-level pros at work!

Passing by the parking area and seeing the full shooting crew with spotlights, reflectors, and cameras, Xiao He realized these visitors were the truly casual, professional kind.

After all, Xiao Chen had only snapped a quick photo with his phone, the pixels still somewhat grainy, whereas over here were proper high-definition shots.

And this kind of thing didn’t seem that rare anymore;almost everyone treated it as normal. The young man doing the shooting could even strike poses while waving at Xiao He and Liu Rulan, “Teacher Xiao, Sister Liu, you two came to visit Brother Lu too?”

Caught off guard, Xiao He looked a little embarrassed, but Liu Rulan stayed calm and asked, nodding, “How long have you been here? Is anyone over there now?”

“Teacher Xie just went up.”

Another young man said, “If you hurry, you should still be able to catch up to them.”

“All right, thanks.”

Liu Rulan then led Xiao He toward the hospital elevator.
Behind them, the cameraman’s voice started up again, “Okay, three, two, one, go, go, go, yes, like that, don’t look at the lens—”

Xiao He: …

Xiao He pressed his lips together and followed Liu Rulan into the elevator.

Liu Rulan pressed the elevator button, glanced back at Xiao He, then said with a hint of amusement, “What’s there to be surprised about.”

Xiao He: “It’s actually okay.”

He was used to it.

“But it reminded me, Lu Yuxi used to have a pretty unpleasant quarrel with Director Zhuang and the others over casting for Corner Also.”

As he spoke, Xiao He propped his chin and thought, “Are we stabbing him in the chest right now?”

Liu Rulan: “…That’s actually possible.”

As the elevator doors slowly opened, Xiao He and Liu Rulan exchanged a look.

“Lu Yuxi’s decline started after losing the role in Corner Also,” Liu Rulan analyzed seriously, “So from a certain perspective, seeing you now would probably make him pretty annoyed.”

Although Xiao He didn’t have a direct conflict of interest with Lu Yuxi, in the most fragile moments of one’s life, seeing an actor from Corner Also, Liu Rulan thought Lu Yuxi’s expression would likely be very interesting.

Xiao He shrugged. “That’s his own fault, I can’t be blamed for everything.”

After all, it’s a hospital—he’s not going to die from it.

Liu Rulan: …

They caught up in the corridor with Xie Jingshi, who had reached the door ahead of them. When Xie Jingshi saw Xiao He, he instinctively nodded at them.

“Going in together?”

They still had to go through the formalities.

“Yeah.”

Xiao He nodded.

So the three of them walked into the ward together.

Inside the ward were only Lu Yuxi and his young assistant.

When Lu Yuxi saw Xiao He and Xie Jingshi, his pale face did show a more complex array of emotions.

But the reactions Xiao He had expected—embarrassment, temper, impatience—did not appear. Lu Yuxi struggled as his assistant helped him sit up painfully on the bed, then he sincerely thanked the two of them.

“Thanks for what happened earlier, and for what happened before… I’m really sorry too.”

Honestly, Lu Yuxi’s sudden change in attitude completely surprised Xiao He.

He had already prepared himself mentally to be saving an ungrateful person again, but seeing the man in front of him, the attitude had shifted drastically—this was not the same person Xiao He had encountered before.

That said, Xiao He still harbored dislike toward Lu Yuxi. After all, Lu Yuxi had been late many times, delaying their work and making him annoying to deal with.

But perhaps in Lu Yuxi’s eyes, Xiao He was really just a colleague who had saved his life;their relationship was ordinary, not particularly close, but not hostile either.

They had hardly spoken and had little interaction.

Sigh. Thinking that way made Xiao He feel like his own attitude wasn’t exactly magnanimous either.

“It’s okay. It was mainly Xiao He who helped. I didn’t do much. I’m just glad to see you pulled out of that crisis.”

Because Xiao He’s head was cluttered with too many thoughts, he didn’t reply immediately. Xie Jingshi responded first, but he didn’t try to steal credit from Xiao He;he earnestly recounted what had happened that day to Lu Yuxi.

Lu Yuxi clearly already knew the details, so his gaze turned to Xiao He and his face showed some gratitude: “Thanks, Brother Xiao.”

“Ah, cough, it’s nothing, really, I just did what I should, tried my best.”

Xiao He cleared his throat immediately, making his tone sound less odd.

It wasn’t only Xiao He who felt his own attitude strange;Liu Rulan was also a bit surprised.

This Lu Yuxi seemed different than she had imagined.

Could near-death change a person’s character so much?

Xiao He continued, “But about that incident, don’t blame me for saying this, young man, health is the foundation of everything. No matter how hard you push yourself, you still have to take care of your body.”

Someone who could gulp down three cups of coffee in a short time truly was ruthless—others might be ruthless to people, but this guy was ruthless to himself. Xiao He wasn’t sure that if he did this again next time, he’d be so lucky to be rescued in time.

One’s life is only lived once;never assume youth permits reckless behavior.

Hearing Xiao He, Lu Yuxi’s face barely changed. Apparently countless people had already mentioned this to him recently;his attitude had become particularly numb. He just nodded stiffly, “Mm, I know.”

Seeing that, Xiao He realized his gentle words were unlikely to penetrate this stubborn shell.

After all, it was a life he had saved. Xiao He had tried to advise him, but the owner of that life didn’t seem to cherish this hard-won luck.

At that moment, Xiao He felt Lu Yuxi was still rather annoying. After going through a life-and-death experience, he showed practically no change.

It was just like before when Lu Yuxi had promised countless times not to be late and to arrive on time next time—no matter how many promises came out of his mouth, there was never any real change in behavior.

Even after experiencing death once, there was no transformation.

—Then there was nothing he could do.

Xiao He immediately lost the desire to continue the conversation and wanted nothing more than to leave.

Lu Yuxi’s gratitude was sincere, but unfortunately for Xiao He, he had never been short on thanks from people like this.

It’s their life;if they don’t cherish it themselves, nobody else can force them to.
