Brother Dao Took the Entertainment Industry by Storm, Fans Beg Me Not to Kill Anymore

Chapter 372: Ace Detective Director Li Qing

Since they had already become competitors, Li Qing on this side was not willing to be outdone.

If the other side wanted to use classic characters to attract a wave of nostalgia, then they would find villain roles from recent years that had broken out of their niche circles, preferably from the younger generation—actors who brought their own traffic and could generate more heat than classic ones—

Thus, Xiao He appeared.

After all, Xiao Heʼs presence in recent years had been very high, especially if you entered keywords like ”villain” or ”serial killer” on Bilibili;among the first pages that popped up, Xiao He would definitely have a place.

The character he played, Mu Ze, a minor role that only appeared in a few scenes, had been endlessly edited and stretched by a host of content creators for two years, with no rivals in the same category. It could simply be described as stunning.

Therefore, after some research, the program team decided to invite Xiao He to play the murderer in the introductory short film for their first script.

What no one expected, however, was that Xiao Heʼs side directly refused.

This wasnʼt actually Liu Rulanʼs refusal, but rather her assistantʼs, and the reason was naturally that Xiao He wasnʼt planning to film variety shows.

But who could have guessed that the program team wasnʼt actually inviting Xiao He to be a program guest? The ”variety show invitation letter” they sent was directly treated like other variety show invitations, screened out by the assistant and uniformly given a negative reply.

This, naturally, nearly caused them to miss the opportunity.
Fortunately, Li Qing remained persistent.

Mainly because he truly couldnʼt think of a second candidate more suitable than Xiao He.

Xiao Heʼs acting skills and fame were absolutely the best choice currently available to them!

After talking at length about the program teamʼs situation, Li Qing then looked at Liu Rulan with a sincere expression and said, ”Manager Liu, our program team is absolutely sincere, and we guarantee Xiao He the greatest degree of filming freedom. We can coordinate with Xiao Heʼs shooting schedule at any time. Our scripts are also absolutely top-notch. If you could take a look, you would definitely be very interested.”

Xiao He didnʼt express his stance immediately. Instead, he looked inquiringly at Liu Rulan.

Liu Rulan pondered, crossing one leg over the other, and also met Xiao Heʼs gaze. ”Are you interested? Their filming time shouldnʼt be long.”

The January schedule was still relatively flexible. Besides the promotion for ”Corner Also,” there was the filming of the final part of ”Record of Chasing the Wind.” Squeezing in the shooting of a short film here shouldnʼt be a problem.

Xiao He also thought about his upcoming schedule. After a momentʼs consideration, he nodded slightly at Liu Rulan. ”We can look at the script first.”

”Alright.” Liu Rulan looked at Li Qing. ”Then weʼll take a look at the script first.”

”Thatʼs wonderful.”

Li Qing immediately said happily, ”Weʼll send the script to your email right away.”

”Mm, weʼll review it after we return.”

Then Liu Rulan glanced at her watch and stood up. ”The time is about right. We should get going.”

”Okay, thank you very much for taking the time to listen to me.”

Li Qing also stood up, speaking with a hint of deference.

It couldnʼt be helped. Strictly speaking, Xiao He was now the boss of a company. Li Qing, as a director, was ultimately still a worker. Facing Xiao He, he didnʼt have that much confidence.

”Then thank you for your hard work, Director Li. Goodbye.”

Xiao He also said goodbye, then left the lounge together with Liu Rulan.

-

Only after getting into the van did Liu Rulan bring up Li Qingʼs situation with Xiao He: ”In recent years, Li Qing has mostly participated in variety show production as an assistant director. This is also the first time heʼs gotten the title of chief director. Itʼs a case of enduring hardship before tasting sweetness. His ability is actually quite good. Even in a situation where similar variety shows are competing against each other, he most likely wonʼt lose. You can consider it carefully.”

Although the director responsible for filming the short film probably wouldnʼt be Li Qing, this short film was ultimately related to the variety show ”Ace Reasoning.” Only if the variety show developed well would those who participated in the filming gain more value.

”Oh? Why do you say itʼs ʼenduring hardship before tasting sweetnessʼ?”

Xiao He asked curiously.

”Fearless Journey, you know about it, right? That production team that caused frequent safety accidents due to illegal operations.”

”Yes, I know.”

Xiao He still remembered Liu Chenyanʼs face to this day, but now that the person was already behind bars, he didnʼt need to pay attention to that situation anymore.

”I mentioned before that Director Liu was able to take over Fearless Journey by snatching it from someone else.”

Xiao He understood instantly, but also felt surprised. ”Was the previous director of Fearless Journey Li Qing?”

That didnʼt seem right. He felt like he hadnʼt heard of that.

”No, thatʼs not it. The chief director at the time wasnʼt him;he was just an assistant director.”

Liu Rulan shook her head with a smile. ”But at that time, the chief director did intend to hand the program team over to Li Qing, to let Li Qing succeed him. Unfortunately, Liu Chenyan intervened, not only squeezing out the chief director at the time but also kicking Li Qing, as part of the ʼoriginal team,ʼ out of the bureau along the way.”

Xiao He: ”Tsk.”

That was also a normal occurrence.

”Later, he moved around to other types of reality show variety programs. Among those shows, some were of good quality, and some flopped right from the start. He basically kept circling around the assistant director position, didnʼt gain much of a good reputation, but quite a few bad ones. In the end, after all that busy work, he became the nameless, faceless one.”

Xiao He was almost feeling pity listening to this. ”That is indeed a bit miserable.”

”Mainly, he himself doesnʼt know how to fight for his own interests.” Liu Rulan shrugged. ”Once you take the blame once, naturally there will be a second time.”

If you canʼt fight for your own rights, then when your rights are repeatedly violated in the future, you can only continue to be a punching bag.

Of course, another big reason for Li Qing was his lack of background.

”Then Iʼll take a look at the script later.”

Xiao He didnʼt mind spending some time filming a short film similar to a micro-movie. After all, playing a murderer was what he excelled at.

”Mm, Iʼve already had the assistant transfer it to your tablet. After this busy period is over, you can take a proper look.”

”Okay.”

During their conversation, Xiao He had already moved to another venue. After a simple meal, he began preparing for makeup and styling.

...

Time flew by, and it was evening.

As the largest domestic video platform, Penguinʼs gala naturally invited many star artists.

Most of them were actors and celebrities who had formed strong ties with the video platform in recent years. Even a simple red carpet walk became a cheering paradise for fans here, especially for actors who had exploded in popularity through TV dramas this year. They walked with an air of confidence, waving to fans on both sides of the red carpet, their faces showing unconcealed pride and high spirits.

Amidst the overwhelming cheers from fans, the vehicle of the ”Corner Also” production team arrived at the scene.

Without a doubt, as a drama scheduled to premiere on the Penguin platform at the beginning of the year, the ”Corner Also” team received obvious favoritism from the official organizers. Not only were they given a prime golden time slot on the red carpet schedule, but the camera positions also overwhelmingly focused on them, as if trying to capture the main cast of ”Corner Also” from every 360-degree angle without a blind spot.

And the combination of handsome men and beautiful women was a powerful move right from their appearance!
