Reincarnation of the Strongest Healer

Chapter 987: I Choose You

Carmen’s eyes lit up in joy when she unintentionally discovered the unspoken rules of the Resonance City.

’No wonder the store prices are so extreme. So they were exorbitant from the start.’ She quickly opened her private message and informed Xu Feng of this matter.

There was no way she was going to keep the information to herself. Of course, she only informed Xu Feng and even warned him to not let the others know about it.

After all, they weren’t a part of their guild, and she disdained the Super Guilds people.

It would be best if those Super Guilds people suffered immense losses.

Once she finished plotting her malicious planning, Carmen returned her attention to Derek.

”So, what do you think? We’re not going to force you to bet and participate in the arena, but only by doing so can your life in the city remain easy. Many of us were initially unwilling but we learned it the hard way and eventually came to participate in the arena.” Derek explained his past experience.

The other NPCs also nodded their heads in agreement. If one had a keen perspective, then they could also detect a slight bitterness in their eyes.

Clearly, all of them had learned the hard way from their predecessors, and now it was time for them to teach the newcomers the same treatment.

Such an action had long become a tradition and a testament to whether one was truly worthy to stay in the city or not.

Of course, the underlying pretext was still to scam the Resonance Points from newcomers and make them learn the hard way.

After pondering for a few moments, Carmen ultimately nodded her head.

”Alright, then I shall bet 1,000 points. The modification should be on the same level as me.” She clenched her fist and revealed a determined look.

Derek’s smile widened greatly upon seeing that. It might appear that Carmen was determined to win, but in his and the other people’s eyesight, that was the look of a fat sheep.

How many people had they encountered that revealed such a look?

”1,000 points from the start?” Derek appeared stunned and tried to persuade her, ”It’s not easy to gain 1,000 Resonance Points. You should start small and get familiarized before betting that much.”

If Carmen had still been the naive person when she first began, then she would have really believed Derek’s words were meant for her own good.

However, having been trained by the shrewd and cunning four-eyed, she had learned what it meant to be deceitful and dig a hole for others to step in.

’So you’re taking this approach.’ Carmen was amused that Derek was trying to use reverse psychology on her.

Although it appeared that he was persuading and convincing her otherwise, he was actually pushing her to bet more points on the arena.

Realizing Derek’s scheme, Carmen crossed her arms and raised her chin up.

”Hmph, why should I need to familiarize myself with the arena? I’m someone who passed the trial and gained the right to become a citizen. I’ve earned so many points, so I’ve decided to bet 2,000 points. Who dares to challenge me?” She scoffed and dared others to challenge her.

Sure enough, many people who were eavesdropping had their eyes lit up.

Rather than being afraid of the staggering betting points, they were actually enthusiastic and wished to be challenged first.

After all, 2,000 points for a newcomer must have been the maximum limit.

Once Carmen lost the match, it would be impossible for the rest to get any points. Additionally, who was to say Carmen would continue betting after losing big?

”Choose me. My win record isn’t great and I can serve as a good sample of the people here.”

”Scram! Your win record isn’t great? You just won 5 in a row and you want to scam the newcomer? Pick me instead.”

”Stop yelling at each other. Have some ethics. I’m the most handsome one among you all, so naturally, I should be the first.”

The people in the arena began talking over one another in hopes of being chosen first.

Since the arena could only begin when both sides were voluntary, they couldn’t afford to use violence or coercion to force Carmen to join.

Hence, they wasted so much effort and time to chat with Carmen. Now that the chatting had succeeded, only the final part was left.

”Don’t you also want to be picked?” Contrary to these people’s excitement, Carmen’s eyes shifted to Derek, who had been silent on the side.

”Oh, no, I’m only here to earn some commission. I’m not good at fighting.” Derek shook his head and said humbly.

However, his humbleness appeared extremely fake in Carmen’s eyes.

’The Guild Leader can play the pig much better than you.’ She sneered inwardly.

Without a doubt, Derek purposely put on a weak front to deceive her into believing he was weak and refused to participate.

Yet that kind of logic was extremely flawed.

If Derek was truly some weak individual, then the people around them would have long shoved him to the side.

Why would they have given a weak individual so much talking time?

Alright, even on the off-chance that it was because Derek was good with his words and was chosen to be the representative to scam others.

Then what about the current situation?

It was evident that Carmen was convinced to participate in a match, so would Derek still be needed?

She had noticed that despite the enthusiasm and eagerness of the people who wanted to be picked, they subtly avoided pushing Derek away.

This small margin of error revealed quite a lot of information to Carmen.

What she was afraid of was not an equal battle, but a prolonged battle that wasted her time.

Since she chose to fight, then she naturally had to choose the strongest and gain the connection immediately.

”Alright, I choose you, Derek.” Carmen declared and pointed at Derek with a confident gaze.
