From American Internet Celebrity to God Among Men

187: Chapter 187 Wings Returning HomeFor the first three days back at their home in Malibu, Alex and Taylor did almost nothing ”productive.”

They slept for a long time, as if trying to make up for all the sleep they had missed over the past month across different time zones, climates, and altitudes.

They made breakfast at a leisurely pace in their spacious kitchen, enjoying the familiar aroma of coffee beans and the unchanging yet incredibly comforting ocean view outside the window.

They took the items out of their suitcases one by one, cleaning, drying, and putting them away.

The quick-dry clothes damp with jungle humidity, the fleece jackets carrying the chill of the fjords, and the hiking boots stained with highland dust were washed and neatly stored, like armor removed by warriors, temporarily returning to daily life.

It wasn’t until the fourth day that the jet lag and the exhaustion of long-distance travel completely faded, replaced by a settled, abundant sense of peace.

The two of them, by unspoken agreement, began to organize the ”harvest” of this journey.

Taylor spread her thick inspiration notebooks, stuffed memory cards, and various small items collected along the way (a strange leaf from near the Mayan ruins, a smooth pebble from a Nordic fjord, an old copper coin with blurred patterns found near a highland monastery) on the large table in the studio.

She put on her headphones and began to listen back to and categorize those recordings one by one.

The wind, rain, and insect chirps of the jungle, the desolation of the Viking horn, the low chanting of highland scriptures, and the countless fragments she improvised and hummed...

She created a sound material library for each location and began to tag the moments that touched her most with keywords.

Alex was quieter.

He spent most of his time sitting by the window overlooking the sea, eyes closed, appearing to be meditating, or perhaps repeatedly ”playing back” those key moments of perception from the past month.

The tactile sensation of the ”imprints” under the Mayan stone steps, the outline of the energy filaments ”guided” by the stone carvings under the Nordic aurora, the slow ”information ripples” deep within the ”void” foundation of the plateau...

These experiences that transcended conventional senses were deeply etched into his perceptual memory like brands.

He could feel that the [Information Texture Discrimination] that had evolved to the [Stable] stage was classifying, correlating, and performing preliminary ”meaning mapping” of these complex ”perceptual data” in a more efficient and orderly way.

This was not conscious thinking, but more like the ability itself was performing background integration and upgrades.

Occasionally, he would get up and play a tape brought back from the plateau, which recorded the ”absolute silence” of the environment, at an extremely slow speed on that old Nagra reel-to-reel player.

Then, he would try to use synthesizers and effect units to simulate the abstract ”texture” of ”topological information” that was left in his perception when ”ripples” appeared on that ”void” foundation.

The sounds produced were strange and difficult to describe, but when Taylor occasionally looked up from her pile of materials to listen, she would nod thoughtfully, as if she could capture a hint of the spirit within them.

On the weekend, Marcus and Hank came over to visit, which served as an informal work report and a welcome party.

Marcus excitedly displayed the latest results of the ”Deep Listening Lab”: the documentary ”Night Visit to City Background Noise” had staggering view counts, and even attracted interest from several urban planning departments, who came to ask if they could reference the citizen sound perception data within it.

”It seems we accidentally became the grassroots promoters of ’participatory urban sensory research.’”

Marcus said, not without pride.

Hank brought more practical news: the previous anonymous public opinion attacks regarding ”excessive commercialization” had gradually subsided after the platform continued to launch deep content such as ”Traces” and ”Infrasound,” and after members of the ”Creator Incubation Program” continuously achieved tangible results.

”Summit Creative” seemed to have adjusted their strategy, starting to imitate the ”Echo Blind Box” format by launching an ”Inspiration Flash” challenge, but the response was lukewarm.

”They are still learning our form, but haven’t grasped our spirit.”

Hank summarized.

Alex listened and just smiled: ”Don’t worry about them.

We will continue on our own path.

For the next step, the ”Deep Listening Lab” can try the theme of ”Sound Fossils of Industrial Heritage,” encouraging users to record the disappearing or already stilled mechanical and structural sounds of old factories, old docks, abandoned railways, and other such places.

Extend the concept of ”Traces” from nature and urban life to the historical level of human industrial activities.”

This suggestion made Marcus’s eyes light up, and he immediately wrote it down.

A few days later, Alex received a preliminary comprehensive analysis summary regarding the exploration data of the ”Echo Puzzle: History Edition” from Team K (via Lin).

The summary was long, with complex technical details, but the core conclusions were clear and powerful:

1. High correlation confirmed: The anomalous phenomena discovered at the three sites showed potential homologous or same-type correlations that transcended coincidence in mathematical modeling and energy characteristic analysis.

This supports the hypothesis of the existence of one (or more) ”non-standard signal sources/phenomena” characterized by long-period, wide-area influence.

2. Human interaction patterns: The data supports the ”periodic observation/marking” pattern embodied by the Nordic site, the Mayan site may represent ”local imprints of stronger events,” and the highland site points to ”deep nodes/sources and their environmental effects.”

The three together outline a potential multi-layered, multi-form interaction historical picture between this phenomenon, the Earth’s environment, and human civilization.

3. Follow-up research direction: It is suggested that the next step of work focus on two points: a) Utilizing existing data models to attempt to screen for other potential historical or geographical ”hotspots” with similar characteristics on a global scale; b) Designing more precise long-term monitoring plans based on the suspected ”source/node” activity characteristics captured at the highland site to verify its periodicity and activity patterns.

At the end of the summary, a brief personal note from K was attached: ”The data quality is excellent.

Your perceptual contribution is a key piece of the puzzle.

The model is under construction, and clearer directional suggestions are expected in two months.

Please enjoy your vacation and keep in shape.”

The collaboration entered a solid analysis and planning phase, and there would be no new field missions in the short term.

Alex encrypted and archived the summary, feeling a heavy sense of satisfaction in his heart.

Their adventure had not been in vain; it had indeed pushed forward the frontier of that secret research field.

He told Taylor about this general progress.

After listening, Taylor leaned on his shoulder and said softly: ”So, we really heard... some echoes of things from very deep, very far, or a very long time ago, right?”

”At the very least, we pointed out the direction from which the echoes came, and vaguely touched some of the textures of that ’wall.’”

Alex wrapped his arms around her.

”That’s enough.”

Taylor sighed contentedly, ”Leave the rest to the scientists and your ’perception’ to ponder slowly.

Now, it’s my turn to turn these ’echoes’ into my music.”

She began to officially set to work, fusing the sound materials collected from the three places with her own creations.

The rhythm of raindrops in the Mayan jungle became the percussion base for a certain song; the timbre of the Viking horn was transformed into a synthesizer melody intro full of loneliness; the mix of highland wind and scriptures created an ethereal, sacred-feeling ambient background.

Alex’s ”pressure gradient” and her own ”deep blue waiting” were also rearranged, serving as the cornerstone of the entire EP’s emotion and concept.

The collaboration between the two in the studio entered a new level of tacit understanding.

Alex no longer needed to over-explain his ”feelings”; he only needed to slightly frown or nod when a certain passage played, and Taylor would immediately understand and adjust the corresponding timbre or mix balance.

Alex also often gained emotional and artistic re-understandings of the ”perceptual data” from Taylor’s humanistic materials and melodies.

Their creation became an intersection and sublimation of two completely different ways of ”listening” to the world.

That evening, Alex was walking alone on the beach.

The setting sun stretched his shadow long.

He pulled up the system interface, looking at the available popularity that had broken through 80 million.

Having experienced such intensive perceptual application and evolution, he had a clearer understanding of the boundaries of his abilities and his future needs.

In the short term, [Information Texture Discrimination (Stable)] was sufficient to handle most situations.

Physical enhancement was also in a good state.

He did not currently feel any urgent ”shortcomings” that required immediate exchange for new abilities.

Perhaps he should keep these points as a strategic reserve, saving them for a truly critical moment, or for when Team K’s research revealed a clearer ”direction” that required specific abilities to intervene?

He was more inclined towards the latter.

The exchange of abilities should serve clearer cognitive goals and practical needs, rather than blind accumulation.

The sea breeze blew, carrying a familiar salty taste.

In the distance, the city lights lit up one by one.

Alex looked back at his own house with its warm lights, where his beloved career, intimate partner, and countless ”sounds” waiting to be created and listened to resided.

A grand expedition had temporarily come to an end, bringing back rich spoils and a broader perspective.

And life and creation, this theme song of Eternity, would continue to play on the familiar stage with deeper insights.

The next journey might still be brewing in the distant mist, but the current nesting and settling, in itself, was an indispensable and beautiful movement.
