Harry Potter and the Secret Treasures

All Dementors acted under the control of the evil god. The brain located deep in the sea of Azkaban used them to influence the world, commanding them to gather happiness and souls from all corners of the earth to restore its power.

The magic world had always been shrouded in the shadow of the evil god, but the deeper, more hidden evil had remained unknown to the people.

Even if Evan hadn’t changed history, the underlying problem would not have been resolved. It would have just remained hidden, forgotten by the world, until the sealing magic left behind by Slytherin eventually failed, or until that creature had gathered enough strength to break the seal itself.

By then, the evil god would descend again, and what awaited the world might be the end of the days!

Of course, it was also possible that a new savior would rise, quietly resolving everything.

Ordinary people were probably the happiest. They didn’t need to understand what had truly happened in this world, nor worry about the powerful evils that lurked in the dark. They only needed to focus on the present: either everyone would be destroyed together, or live as usual.

If you were given a choice on the first day of a new year, as one of the ordinary people, would you choose to continue a mundane, uneventful life… or choose destruction?

Perhaps only those who chose destruction would join a doomsday organization like Raven’s Claw.

“To keep the creature’s brain under control, the magic Salazar Slytherin left in Azkaban is extremely powerful. While it restricts the evil god’s activity within, it also prevents us from entering the seal from the outside. So, if we want to destroy the brain as we did before, we must first break this magic,” said Dumbledore. “And to break the magic, one must first have the proper qualification…”

“Qualification?” Evan asked in surprise. That sounded rather strange.

“Oh, yes, not everyone is qualified to break the magic left by Slytherin. It must be his heir,” Dumbledore continued. “Slytherin set conditions to select his successor, like the ability to speak Parseltongue, or possessing his bloodline, among others. This time, what we need is a specific spiritual mark he left behind. Only someone who bears that mark can unlock the seal in Azkaban and enter within.”

“This mark — what is it about? None of us were ever marked by Salazar Slytherin…”

“Fortunately, someone was!” Dumbledore raised his right hand, the one wearing the ring, and motioned for Evan and Harry to look at it. The ring was tightly bound by glowing green runes. “We found this Horcrux, remember? The way the soul fragment detached from Voldemort’s main soul was quite unusual. That’s because it was a mark. Slytherin personally marked his descendant, and with the help of fifteen-year-old Riddle, we finally have a chance to break the sealing magic and destroy the brain within…”

This, Evan realized, must have been what Dumbledore had been busy working on lately. Staring at the complex spellwork, Evan could hardly imagine what kind of powerful magic would cause such backlash to the one attempting to break it, and leave such a deep mark in the process.

Dumbledore said that the existence of fifteen-year-old Riddle was because of Slytherin’s mark, which solved Evan’s long-standing doubts.

Fifteen-year-old Riddle, Voldemort’s fragment of good, this was the unexpected reason for the creation of that Horcrux.

Salazar Slytherin attached great importance to bloodline and deeply cared for his descendants and students. Even until the very end, he had never given up on them.

“How’s the progress on breaking the seal, sir?” Evan asked.

“Almost done. It won’t take much longer. I’ll let you know when it’s ready.”

“Professor, once you break the sealing magic, can I go in with you to help destroy that brain monster?” Harry asked impatiently. He had been quietly listening to the conversation between Dumbledore and Evan, but now that he heard Evan would be going to help destroy the evil god, he couldn’t hold back any longer.

He also wanted to be part of this adventure, very much.

In the previous adventures, Dumbledore, Evan, and Sirius did not take him with them. Last time when they went to the vampire castle to destroy the evil god’s body, even Hermione and Elaine followed them. Harry was envious and didn’t want to miss this opportunity again.

Dumbledore looked at Harry very intently for a moment before saying, “Yes, I think so.”

“I can?” said Harry, thoroughly taken aback. He didn’t expect Dumbledore to agree so readily.

He thought the headmaster would refuse his request as before, because of the damn scar and the prophecy, he couldn’t take risks.

“Oh yes,” said Dumbledore, smiling slightly. “I think you have earned that right.”

Harry felt his heart lift. It was very good not to hear words of caution and protection for once.

The headmasters and headmistresses around the walls seemed less impressed by Dumbledore’s decision. But Evan didn’t think there was anything wrong with it.

Harry’s future battles would be far more difficult than anything they were facing now. Voldemort had to be, and could only be defeated by him.

As early as sixteen years ago, Voldemort had personally selected Harry as his lifelong enemy. Only one of them could survive.

If Voldemort succeeded in transforming himself into an evil god, then things would get really interesting.

Compared to that, the dangers Harry would face in this mission were trivial.

“Once we break into the sealed area and retrieve the Twin Serpent Staff, the next step will be to destroy the remaining Horcruxes, the golden cup, the statue and one other potential Horcrux,” said Dumbledore. “Harry, I hope you can take on as much responsibility as possible during this. Evan has another task; he must search for the secret treasure keys left behind by Slytherin and Hufflepuff. That is just as crucial to our final victory.”

Harry nodded hurriedly, indicating that he understood.

Evan suddenly had a bad feeling. Dumbledore’s words clearly excluded himself, as if something would happen to him that would prevent him from joining the destruction of the Horcruxes or the search for the treasure keys. That was not a good sign…

“Once we have completed all of that, the only thing left will be the final battle with Voldemort.”

“But, sir, I still don’t quite understand,” Harry asked. “Does Voldemort know when a Horcrux is destroyed? Can he feel it? If he can, why is he letting us destroy them one by one?”

“A very interesting question, Harry. I believe not. I believe that Voldemort is now so immersed in evil, and these crucial parts of himself have been detached for so long, he does not feel as we do. Perhaps, at the point of death, he might be aware of his loss … but he was not aware, for instance, that the diary had been destroyed until he forced the truth out of Lucius Malfoy,” said Dumbledore.
