Harry Potter and the Secret Treasures

Evan leaned back in his chair and breathed a sigh of relief. They had finally gotten the memory.

Regardless of whether Slughorn’s words just now were sincere or impulsive under the influence of alcohol, it was very gratifying. They were one step closer to victory.

Evan calculated that Slughorn’s memory was enough for Dumbledore to gather all the information about Voldemort. He could also discuss the next steps with Dumbledore and participate in his ongoing plan related to Slytherin’s Secret Treasure.

“Let’s go, let’s go back!” he said, standing up from the chair, “Harry, keep that bottle of memory safe, we’ll go find Dumbledore tomorrow. Though honestly, I think even if we don’t tell him ourselves, he’ll soon find out we’ve got it.”

In fact, maybe Dumbledore was already on his way back to Hogwarts. He had an uncanny sensitivity to this kind of news.

“Well!” Harry nodded. “Just in time too, I think the Felix Felicis is wearing off.”

“Really? Let’s hope our luck doesn’t turn too badly then.”

The end of the Felix Felicis’s effect meant they had lost the blessing of the luck potion.

Soon, Evan felt the long-lost trouble.

He had just now focused all his energy on persuading Slughorn and had completely neglected Elaine.

The girl had secretly drunk a lot of wine by herself and was now visibly excited…

At first, she had still been quietly sitting on her chair, but when Evan called out to her, she lifted her head — her normally pale, bloodless face was now flushed almost as red as her eyes. It wasn’t a pure red or an unhealthy red, but a soft blush.

This made Elaine look like a normal human girl, not a delicate porcelain doll.

She did look even cuter like this, Evan thought to himself, a little distracted.

Cute, but still a trouble, a big trouble.

“Let’s go, Elaine!”

“Time to go back?” she wobbled to her feet. “Yeah, we should go back. I’m full. That milk tasted really weird.”

“You didn’t drink milk, but wine. Oh dear, you drank so much!”

Evan glanced at the snoring Slughorn and Hagrid slumped over the table, and the empty bottles around them.

The later drinks had all been refilled with a Refilling Charm. Only the first two bottles had been brought by Slughorn himself. One was given to Hagrid, and the other had been poured into mugs for Slughorn, Evan, and Harry… The rest had been polished off entirely by Elaine.

It was terrible. She drank a lot!

“So this is what wine tastes like. Hmm, why do I feel weird and hot?”

“Elaine, you’re drunk?!” Evan hurriedly caught her as she stumbled.

“No, I’m still sober.”

Even if they were still awake in this state, nine out of ten people who said they were not drunk were drunk.

The wine Slughorn had brought was very strong; even Hagrid, with his huge build, had shown obvious signs of drunkenness after one mug — let alone Elaine with her small frame. s̈

“Oh, if you’re not drunk, then let’s head back — don’t let Hermione…” said Evan cautiously.

He figured it was better not to provoke this little troublemaker for now; better to wait until they were safely back in the common room.

If she caused a fuss later, she could go bother Hermione in the dormitory — it wouldn’t be his problem.

But before he could finish, Elaine interrupted him!

“I’m really not drunk, Evan, I just feel very excited, just like, just like…” As she spoke, she suddenly opened her mouth and bit Evan hard.

She didn’t use her two sharp canines, so Evan’s skin wasn’t broken, but it still hurt.

Evan hurriedly pulled Elaine away and looked at the row of teeth marks on his left arm.

He wanted to cry but had no tears — and she claimed she wasn’t drunk?!

Some people fall asleep when drunk, some sing, some get chatty… and some do all kinds of things … but Evan had never seen someone who started biting people when they were drunk. This was not a good habit, but Elaine usually had his impulse.

“Hehe, I don’t know why, but I suddenly wanted to bite you,” said Elaine, giggling as she looked at Evan’s helpless expression. “Anyway, that’s just how I feel right now — it’s not being drunk, it’s just excitement! Come on, Evan, give me your arm again. I promise I won’t bite hard this time. I’ll just… hold it.”

“Don’t bite me. Here, take this lollipop — you can hold that in your mouth,” said Evan.

“Nooo, my teeth itch, I want to hold something with meat in my mouth,” Elaine shook her head.

‘What kind of mess is this?!’ Evan thought. Trouble really did come the moment you mentioned it.

If he had to describe Elaine’s current behavior — it was like she drank the strongest liquor, then bit the person next to her.

Fortunately, for now at least, she hadn’t made any more outrageous demands.

Harry stood to the side with a this-has-nothing-to-do-with-me look, and Evan didn’t want to stay here any longer, so he helped Elaine up and reluctantly stretched his arm out to her.

Elaine this time really just held onto it with her mouth without biting, but honestly, that felt even weirder.

Not to mention, her drool was dribbling down the side of her mouth and getting all over Evan’s arm.

At this moment, Evan missed Hermione terribly. He should’ve brought her along tonight.

In the night, the three of them walked towards the castle in this bizarre state.

The front door had remained unlocked for them, but trouble came in waves. When they reached the third floor, they ran into Peeves.

Fortunately, they hid quickly and avoided detection.

Halfway back, under the influence of wine, Elaine finally fell asleep, no longer clinging to Evan’s arm, but Evan had to carry her the rest of the way to Gryffindor Tower.

They finally got up to the portrait of the Fat Lady, only to find her in a most unhelpful mood.

Harry stepped forward and gave the password, but the Fat Lady didn’t react — instead, she glared at them furiously.

“What sort of time do you three call this?”

“We’re really sorry — We had to go out for something important —”

“Something important?! Don’t think I don’t know why you go out. Boys and girls sneaking out in the middle of the night — I’ve seen it plenty of times…” She cast a sharp glance at the sleeping Elaine in Evan’s arms and then loudly accused, “Wait — you’ve been drinking!”

“This has nothing to do with you, we weren’t doing anything bad!” Evan cast a Muffliato charm on Elaine to block out the noise, then repeated tonight’s password, “Tapeworm. Now let us in.”

“You too,” said the Fat Lady, “the password changed at midnight, so you’ll just have to sleep in the corridor, won’t you?”

“You’re joking!” said Harry angrily. “Why did it have to change at midnight?”

“I’m the Head Boy, I wasn’t informed about a new password,” said Evan. “You are not qualified to change the password to enter the common room alone.”

“That’s the way it is, I wasn’t on my own, I had permission,” said the Fat Lady, with her hands on her waist, “If you’re angry, go and take it up with the headmaster, he’s the one who’s tightened security, so I changed the password!”

“Fantastic,” said Harry bitterly, looking around at the hard floor. “Really brilliant. Yeah, we would go and take it up with Dumbledore if he was here, because he’s the one who wanted us to —”

“He is here,” said a voice behind them. “Professor Dumbledore returned to the school an hour ago.”
