Just Engaged, the Abandoned Comeback System Arrived

Chapter 24: Chapter 24: First Day of Work

”Look at how smug those two are. They’ve completely forgotten their own surname,” Wei Huiling teased.

”Their surname is Lu!” Yaoyao replied.

Wei Huiling glanced at Yaoyao and couldn’t help but laugh. That’s right, their surname was Lu! This was the Lu Family!

”Haha, true nobles use jade,” Lu Yuan corrected.

”Then we’ll use jade!” Lu Ming waved his hand grandly.

”Why do we have to be just like them?” Lu Yuan frowned.

”Then we’ll use gold! Pure gold!” Lu Ming quickly changed his tune.

”Only the royal family can use golden strategies,” Lu Yuan reminded him.

Lu Ming froze for a moment before glaring at Lu Yuan. ”Then what do you suggest we use?”

What should they use? Lu Yuan couldn’t come up with anything.

”We’ll talk about it when the time comes.”

”Right, we’ll talk about it when the time comes!” Lu Ming suddenly realized. This daydream had gone on a bit too long. The sun hadn’t even set yet, and they were already getting carried away with their fantasies.

”By the way, things have been a little restless lately. There’s suspected cult activity within the Fourth Ring of the Zhen District. All of you, be careful. Don’t interact with anyone acting suspiciously,” Lu Ming said, his expression suddenly turning serious.

”A cult?” Lu Yuan was taken aback. He wondered how such a faction dared to expand in the Jade Capital.

”It’s uncertain right now. There are just a few clues. A few murders have occurred.” Lu Ming’s expression was complex. Normally, he shouldn’t speak of unconfirmed matters. However, for the safety of his family, he had to reveal it in advance. It was better to be safe than sorry.

”You need to be careful, then. Cultists are a bunch of crazy perverts!” Wei Huiling quickly reminded him. The strength of cults was usually not to be underestimated. Their Cultivation Techniques and Divine Techniques were often bizarre. They acted ruthlessly and were extremely dangerous.

”Don’t worry. While my Seventh Grade strength isn’t considered strong, it’s definitely not weak, either,” Lu Ming said with a carefree smile.

The Lu Family had been passing down its legacy for hundreds of years. Their greatest strength wasn’t head-on combat, but rather their ability to preserve their lives. No one was more familiar with the environment and terrain of the Zhen District, right down to its underground waterways, than the Lu Family. Having been a constable for decades, he knew it like the back of his hand. More importantly, he had the Court backing him. In the Jade Capital, whether it was the Demon Suppression Bureau, the Demon-slaying Bureau, or the Imperial City Department, they were all forces he could rely on. If he encountered danger, a single shout would bring backup in no time.

”If you’re really unsure, you can discuss it with my future father-in-law,” Lu Yuan suggested. If a cult dared to develop in the Jade Capital, they certainly wouldn’t lack Sixth Grade fighters, and might even have Fifth Grade experts. Meanwhile, his future father-in-law next door possessed the strength of at least a peak Fifth Grade Martial Artist. Since they were family, it wouldn’t hurt to keep him informed.

”Yes, Ayuan is right,” Lu Ming nodded. He could indeed borrow Brother Lin’s strength. It would be a waste not to.

After dinner, Lu Yuan continued practicing his martial arts.

The next day.

Lu Yuan woke up early and practiced his boxing routines for a short while. Then, he washed up, changed into the uniform of the Demon Suppression Bureau, and equipped himself with the saber issued by the Bureau...

”My son is just so handsome! Dashing! Unmatched in good looks!” Wei Huiling praised him. In her heart, her son was the most handsome man in the world. Changing into a uniform only made him look even better.

”Dashing!” Yaoyao chimed in, her small eyes sparkling as she looked at him.

”Haha, I’m heading out,” Lu Yuan laughed, picking up a bag of food before leaving the house.

”Be careful! Stay safe!” Wei Huiling reminded him.

”Don’t worry,” Lu Yuan waved his hand and quickened his pace.

”Is that Lu Yuan?”

”Did the young master of the Lu Family really get into the Demon Suppression Bureau?”

”How did he get in? Goodness...”

”Chief Lu must have spent a lot of silver!”

The people he knew along the way couldn’t help but reveal looks of astonishment and disbelief. Joining the Demon Suppression Bureau before the age of sixteen was extremely rare. He definitely hadn’t gotten in through normal means!

”Haha.” Lu Yuan didn’t care about their gossip. They were just a bunch of commoners with shallow foresight.

The closer he got to the Demon Suppression Bureau, the more Lu Yuan could feel the distinct gazes of reverence from others. Within the borders of Daqian, aside from Demons, the Demon Suppression Bureau oversaw everything related to humans. Whether they were Sect Martial Artists or World Clan Members, as long as they broke the law, resisted authority, or committed evil deeds, they fell under the Bureau’s jurisdiction. They struck with the force of a thunderbolt, thoroughly sweeping away all criminals!

Because it was time for work, Lu Yuan wasn’t the only one arriving. There were others wearing the Demon Suppression Bureau’s uniform.

”Huh? Who are you? I haven’t seen you around before,” a plain-looking young man in his early twenties suddenly approached and asked.

”Lu Yuan. I just joined yesterday,” Lu Yuan replied.

”Lu Yuan! The one recommended by... Elder Wu?” The young man’s eyes widened rapidly, and he couldn’t help but take a serious look at Lu Yuan. A teenager with a cultivation base below the Eighth Grade... It all matched up!

”I haven’t caught your name yet, brother...” Lu Yuan asked.

”Han Li,” the young man answered.

”Han Li!” Lu Yuan’s body instantly jerked back half a meter, his face full of shock.

”You know me? Am I that famous?” Han Li touched his head.

”Which ’Li’ is it?” Lu Yuan asked cautiously.

”The ’Li’ as in ’strength’,” Han Li replied.

”Forgive my lack of manners!” Lu Yuan cupped his hands.

”Am I really that famous?” Han Li asked in confusion.

”Haha...” Lu Yuan laughed awkwardly. ”I heard Elder Wu mention you in passing yesterday. He said there was a kid named Han Li who was pretty good and had a bright future.”

”Really?” Han Li was pleasantly surprised. To think Elder Wu actually praised him like that! Did Elder Wu see his true potential?

”If you don’t believe me, you can go ask him yourself,” Lu Yuan said, feigning displeasure.

”I believe you! I believe you!” Han Li nodded repeatedly. How could he not believe someone praising him? Besides, how was he supposed to ask about something like that? It was probably just a passing comment from Elder Wu. Hahaha, someone finally saw his potential!

”Come on, let’s go in together!”

”Alright.”

The two of them entered the Demon Suppression Bureau through the east gate together. Looking up, they immediately saw Elder Wu sitting in his usual spot.

Han Li’s heart stirred, and he walked over with Lu Yuan.

”Elder Wu.”

”Mm,” Elder Wu nodded faintly.

”Do you need something?”

”N-No, nothing at all. I just came over to see you and pay my respects,” Han Li said quickly, a bit nervous.

Elder Wu couldn’t help but cast a sidelong glance at this guy. He came to visit an old man empty-handed, without bringing a single gift. Was he an idiot?

”Now that you’ve seen me, hurry up and leave.”

”Ah, right, right. I won’t disturb your work. I’m leaving!” Han Li shrank his neck and quickly scampered off.

”Elder Wu,” Lu Yuan greeted him.

”Mm.” Elder Wu nodded, his gaze sweeping over Lu Yuan. ”Not bad. You’ve made progress again.”

”I don’t dare to slack off,” Lu Yuan replied sincerely.

”I’ll take you to meet some people.” Elder Wu stood up and walked further inside.

”The Demon Suppression Bureau usually carries out missions in banner units, and the same goes for daily training. I’ve found a good Chief Banner for you. His name is Qin Gang, and he used to work under me. However, don’t think that just because I recommended you, he’ll give you special treatment. As his name implies, he is extremely upright and impartial...”

”Understood,” Lu Yuan nodded. If Qin Gang didn’t show favoritism toward him, he wouldn’t show favoritism toward others, either. Absolute fairness and justice was the best-case scenario.

”A Chief Banner doesn’t lead the men directly. When you get there, you’ll just be following a Small Banner and obeying his arrangements...”
