Just Engaged, the Abandoned Comeback System Arrived

Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Fiancée Lin Siyao

”Hehe, now you know how formidable Brother Yuan is, right?” Lin Siyao couldn’t help but laugh. Her younger brother was simply too mischievous and severely needed a lesson.

”I can definitely beat him tomorrow! I’ll beat him to a pulp! Just you wait!” Lin Siheng clenched his fists, looking fierce. With his talent, as long as he put in a little hard work, wouldn’t defeating Lu Yuan be a piece of cake?

”Mhm, tomorrow I’ll watch you get beaten up,” Lin Siyao nodded.

”Hmph!” Lin Siheng quickly ran off on his short little legs. He needed to find a place to properly go into seclusion. He would strive to comprehend an ultimate technique to defeat Lu Yuan in one fell swoop...

Lin Siyao looked left and right, then lifted her skirt, quickly climbed the ladder, and scaled the wall. She leaped into the Lu Residence, immediately spotting Lu Yuan practicing his saber.

SWISH—

Lu Yuan slashed out with his saber. The blade drove the air forward, its sharp edge extending by half a foot.

SWISH, SWISH, SWISH—

Wherever the blade pointed, saber aura crisscrossed.

”Has his Saber Technique reached greater mastery?” Lin Siyao was a little surprised. According to her father’s calculations, it would take Brother Yuan at least half a year, or even a full year, to achieve greater mastery in his Saber Technique. How did he suddenly succeed overnight? Was it an epiphany? Spurred on by the auspicious energy of their engagement?

Overjoyed, she quickly walked over.

SWISH—

Lu Yuan sheathed his saber and looked at the girl approaching him. Her steps were delicate, her figure slender, her face breathtakingly beautiful, and her temperament as ethereal as a classic beauty. This was his fiancée, as well as his childhood sweetheart whom he had grown up with—Lin Siyao!

There was no doubt about their feelings for each other. They had played together since they were six or seven years old, almost inseparable. Lu Yuan truly liked her and was prepared to spend his entire life with her.

However, because of the Counterattack After a Broken Engagement System, a shadow was cast over his heart. He suddenly realized that even the best of relationships could change. Vows of eternal love and unwavering devotion today could turn into bitter, lifelong enmity tomorrow. There were plenty of such examples in the world. Originally, it seemed their relationship was destined to follow that exact path. As their strength, status, and positions gradually mismatched, their feelings and relationship were bound to change. But the system had arrived early, and everything seemed to have shifted once more. He needed to reconsider how to treat this affection and how to navigate their relationship.

”Why are you climbing the wall again? Is your mother not home?”

”She is, but she’s not in the courtyard,” Lin Siyao smiled playfully. ”Congratulations, Brother Yuan, on achieving greater mastery in your Saber Technique. You shouldn’t be far from reaching greater mastery in fist techniques and stepping into the Ninth Grade in cultivation.”

”I’ve already achieved greater mastery in that too.” Lu Yuan completely sheathed his saber and threw a punch.

BANG—

The air directly exploded, sounding like a firecracker popping.

”That’s amazing, Brother Yuan! You finally stepped into the Ninth Grade before turning sixteen,” Lin Siyao said joyfully, her eyes sparkling.

Entering the Ninth Grade before the age of sixteen was different from doing so afterward; it was the watershed of genius. For the latter, the Seventh Grade or Sixth Grade was their absolute limit, but the former held many more possibilities. This proved that although Lu Yuan’s Innate Root Bones were a bit lacking, his comprehension was still quite good. In the later stages of the Martial Dao, comprehension was far more important than one’s Innate Root Bones. The former could not be altered, but the latter could.

”Yeah, it’s not bad,” Lu Yuan smiled.

Breaking through was worth celebrating, but whenever he thought about the group of ”prodigies” in the Lin Family—Eldest Miss Lin breaking through to the Seventh Grade at fifteen, his future father-in-law breaking through to the Second Grade before the age of seventy, and Lin Siyao herself being a peerless prodigy... He felt pressure. A tremendous amount of pressure.

SWISH—

Lin Siyao flicked her sleeve, and a white Jade Bottle appeared in her hand. ”Brother Yuan, there’s a Qi Nourishing Pill in here. You should take it right away; it should have quite a significant effect.”

”A Qi Nourishing Pill!” Lu Yuan thought, surprised. As the name implied, this was a Pill used to increase True Qi. Had Lin Siyao prepared this in advance, or...

[Your former fiancée, Lin Siyao, knows your martial arts have been crippled. Remembering your past affection, she has specially come to visit and offers a Fourth-grade Creation Pill as compensation.]

[Mission Issued: You have already broken off the engagement with Lin Siyao and decided to have nothing more to do with the Lin Family. Resolutely and sternly reject her. Reward: 2 Bone Marrow Points.]

”The mission is finally here!” Lu Yuan thought, his spirit lifting. He knew it! How could the appearance of his fiancée, the main character of the broken engagement incident, not trigger a mission?

Bone Marrow Points!

Innate Root Bones!

”This is too precious; I can’t accept it!”

”Hm? What’s wrong? Is Brother Yuan treating Siyao like an outsider now?” Lin Siyao’s expression immediately shifted. Her eyes flickered, misting over with tears.

”Your father must have bought this for you to nourish your body, right? If you give it to me, what will you do?” Lu Yuan asked in return.

”This...” Lin Siyao slightly lowered her head. ”I’m fine. It’s just a single Pill, it won’t affect me.”

”Then I’m even more fine. It’s just a single Pill; it won’t affect me,” Lu Yuan shook his head and shrugged with a smile.

”You...” Lin Siyao said in feigned anger. ”Ugh, I just wanted to congratulate you, and now... now...”

”I’ll accept the gesture, but forget about the Pill,” Lu Yuan said, his eyes darting around. ”Why don’t you just give me a kiss instead?

”A kiss on the cheek should keep me happy for half a day...

”No, three days!

”A whole month! Hehe.”

”So annoying~” Lin Siyao stomped her foot, her cheeks flushing crimson. However, after glancing left and right, she quickly planted a kiss on Lu Yuan’s cheek. ”Are you satisfied now?”

”What about the other side?” Lu Yuan pointed to his left cheek, as she had just kissed his right.

”I’m going home!” Lin Siyao shrank back and turned to run, worried that if she stayed, he would take even more advantage of her. She scrambled up the ladder, scaled the wall, and disappeared, her retreating figure looking quite flustered.

[Congratulations on completing the mission. Your performance was mediocre. The reward of 2 Bone Marrow Points has been distributed.]

Lu Yuan smiled, feeling the changes in his body.

Innate Root Bones were the inherent skeletal structures shaped by the Heavenly Dao. The innate bearing capacity and potential within them varied from person to person. For a martial artist, those with good Innate Root Bones had a solid natural foundation. They could cultivate more demanding, powerful, and formidable martial arts, progress at a much faster rate, possess stronger combat prowess, and go further in the future. Those with poor Innate Root Bones faced huge limitations, had weak potential, and their future achievements would be restricted.

Of course, there were ways to alter them later in life, but doing so required an immense price—either special treasures or heaven-defying cultivation methods.

Two Bone Marrow Points brought about very little change. Lu Yuan only felt that his bones had grown slightly tougher and his strength had increased by a tiny margin. But there would be more opportunities in the future. As long as Lin Siyao was around, he should be able to continuously acquire more Bone Marrow Points. Perhaps in the future, his Innate Root Bones might even match or surpass those of his future brother-in-law, Lin Siheng.

”I’m so happy today, I’m truly so happy, hey!” Lu Yuan hummed a tune as he went to the kitchen to find something to eat, but ended up finding nothing.

[As a forty-year-old, you realize that your mother has grown old, yet she still has to wash clothes, cook, and manage the household chores every day. You feel truly bitter about this.]

[Mission Issued: Find a capable helper for your old mother. You must not neglect your family while cultivating. Reward: Half a year’s worth of power.]

”A new mission!”

Looking at the mission requirements and rewards, Lu Yuan was surprised. This blind system was actually quite considerate. Crucially, it actually rewarded power. Half a year’s worth of power meant the amount of power he would accumulate from cultivating normally for half a year in his current state.

Lu Yuan immediately walked out of the kitchen, grabbed a saber, tucked some silver taels into his robes, and headed out the door.
