Epic Of Caterpillar

Chapter 2839 - 2840: Tragedy In The Amaterasu Clan

-----

SLASH! SLASH! SLASH! SLASH! SLASH! SLASH!

Each of Kireinaʼs strikes carved through their divinity and power. The Dominion shattered into fragments, and so did the avatar of Amaterasu.

The Great Ancestorʼs body was cleaved cleanly into a hundred pieces. Her divine power desperately tried to hold it together, but it ultimately exploded along with a portion of her soul.

”A-Amaterasu-samaaaaaaaaaa!!!”

BOOOMMM!!!

Blood poured down like rain as Kireina stood in the midst of the crimson downpour, gazing at the soaked ground and the devastation around her.

The monks, shrine maidens, Onmyōji, and everyone else stared at the scene in utter bewilderment and horror.

The Great Ancestor…

Had been slain.

”A-Ahhh…! AAAAHHHH!”

”Noooo!”

”Demon! You horrible demon!”

”Demon! Demon! Demon!!!”

”You demon! I curse you!”

”I curse you, demon!”

”You horrible demon!”

”The Great Ancestor…! AAAAHHHHH! HEAVENS! HAVE MERCY!!!”

Half the Amaterasu clan lost all will to live. They collapsed to their knees, screaming at the top of their lungs, clutching their faces and weeping in terror.

”…”

Kireina stood in silence. Her eyes were emptier than ever before. She felt no satisfaction, only a deep, gnawing horror at what she had done.

For perhaps the first time, she had killed someone she truly did not want to kill.

Her gaze was hollow, devoid of light.

”K-Kireina…?”

Even Frank could hardly believe what she had done. Yet there had been no other choice. The Great Ancestor and Amaterasu would have kept attacking until Kireinaʼs revival ability ran dry and she perished for good.

Matsuo stared in disbelief, eyes brimming with sorrow and hatred. He could not stop the tears as he gazed at the dismembered body of his Great Ancestor lying on the ground.

Blood was everywhere.

It was unbearable.

”G-Great Ancestor…”

His eyes turned to Kireina—the girl he had genuinely liked, the one who had caught his interest.

Everything the Great Ancestor had said was true.

She was indeed an evil demon who had infiltrated them to destroy them.

”Iʼm sorry…” Kireina sighed, looking at them. ”I… am indeed a monster. I apologize for ever trying to deny it. I will leave now, and I wonʼt bother you again. I promise.”

She turned to walk away, but Matsuo clenched his teeth. His Yin and Yang Aura surged as countless paper talismans swirled around him.

”D-DONʼT YOU DARE!!!”

He screamed. The talismans shot toward Kireina, wrapping around her body and primed to explode—only to be sliced into countless fragments.

”I swear I will hunt you no matter what! I WILL AVENGE THE GREAT ANCESTOR! I…! I WILL KILL YOU, KIREINA!!!”

Kireina smiled bitterly. Her golden sword gleamed as she prepared to cut through the Domain.

However.

”Youʼre not leaving after what you did to her.”

”…?!”

The crack in the sky widened further, becoming a gigantic gate to the Heavenly Realm where Amaterasu and the Kami resided.

FLAAASH!

An immense divine pressure crashed over Kireina, slamming her down with overwhelming force and beginning to tear her body apart, twisting her arms and legs.

”Nnngh?!”

She was contorted into agonizing shapes. Her soul and body fused to resist, regenerating rapidly—only for the force to grow even deadly.

Kireina looked skyward. Amaterasuʼs colossal form emerged, her hand hovering as she tried to crush Kireina into a pulp.

”You will pay, accursed Chaos Spawn!”

As she spoke furiously, a soul flame appeared at her side, slowly reshaping into the Great Ancestor. She was alive!

Kireina did not fully understand how, but at the Nascent Soul stage, cultivators could survive their bodies exploding as long as their Nascent Soul and Golden Core remained intact.

Even if damaged, they could eventually regrow their bodies.

The Great Ancestor had suffered severe damage and could not regenerate properly yet. Her soul appeared cracked; Kireinaʼs attack had left a deep scar.

”So she didnʼt die…!”

Amaterasuʼs enormous presence spread everywhere, distorting space and reality. Her cosmic aura was so vast that Kireina felt utterly dwarfed. It was on a completely different level from her fight against Noah, whose power relied mostly on his incredibly strong body, regeneration, and endless blood energy reserves.

”Of course I didnʼt die, fool!” the Great Ancestor spat furiously, resting on Amaterasuʼs shoulder. ”I am a Nascent Soul! Even if you destroy or harm my body, I can return to life after some time…”

”Hah…” Kireina smiled bitterly but also sighed in relief. ”Well, thatʼs a relief. I donʼt think I could have forgiven myself for killing you.”

”…What?!” The Great Ancestor looked disgusted by Kireinaʼs words. ”Pretending to have emotions, pretending to be human! Your kind is the most disgusting…! Amaterasu-sama, she took one of your fingers and turned it into that bizarre golden sword…!”

”I am well aware,” Amaterasu said sternly. Her voice echoed through everything and everyone, making Kireina feel nauseous as she resisted the divine grasp. ”But now she is within my grasp. I shall use a bit more of my power and see how much you can endure, Chaos Spawn! Youʼre definitely not as strong or ancient as that monster leading the Chaos Gate, but it will be a good way to test your speciesʼ strength and discover your weaknesses.”

”Did you know…?” Kireina spoke. Amaterasu raised an eyebrow. ”This world is ending in less than one hundred years.”

”…?!” Amaterasu seemed slightly shocked. Her expressionless face showed faint surprise, which the Great Ancestor also noticed.

”What? What nonsense are you spouting?!” the Great Ancestor demanded angrily. ”Tsk, sheʼs merely trying to play with our minds. Please eliminate her, great goddess.”

”…How do you know that?” Amaterasu asked.

At her words, everyone fell silent, glancing at one another.

The world was ending in less than a hundred years.

Was that truly possible?

Even in this dire situation, many clan members paused to consider it.

”I met someone who knows,” Kireina said. Her sorrowful expression did not change. ”It seems you will do nothing about it, huh? You will let our planet be destroyed and probably just bring your clan to your Heavenly Realm while the rest of Japan—and the world—dies, right?”

”Donʼt speak as if you know me, Chaos Spawn!” Amaterasu grew furious at the accusation. It seemed to strike a sensitive nerve. She exerted even greater force.

Kireina began harnessing her power. A pair of dark blue gloves studded with cosmic stones appeared on her hands. In her other hand, she gripped a long silver sword while a bright cosmic crown materialized above her head.

With these artifacts suddenly summoned, Kireinaʼs power multiplied dozens of times over. She began resisting Amaterasuʼs immense Divine Grasp.
