Chapter 340: Chapter 140 Huang Wan’er: Mr. Chen, do you want to try something exciting?

The Flying Claw hooked onto the city wall, and Chen Jie escaped from Mianshui County overnight.

After leaving Mianshui County, Chen Jie decided to meet Huang Wan’er first and get the ”Spirit Transformation Grass.”

Thinking this, he made his way toward Jixiang Temple.

Jixiang Temple was thirty miles from the city—no short distance for ordinary people—but it wasn’t far for Chen Jie.

He used his qinggong, taking long strides, and headed straight for the Jixiang Temple.

Soon, at around three in the morning, he arrived at Jixiang Temple. At that time, the temple was silent, except for a light flickering in Huang Wan’er’s room.

Chen Jie leaped onto the compound wall and, following it, hurried to the roof of Room A where Huang Wan’er resided.

Through the roof, he saw that inside the room, Huang Wan’er was wearing a blue monk’s robe and had lit an oil lamp; she was reading a book by the lamp’s light, her face flushed and eyes brimming with spring.

Chen Jie found her behavior strange. What kind of scripture was she reading that captivated her so?

He quietly watched through the roof tiles and saw that the scripture was annotated with Sanskrit and was a translation. Moreover, there were drawings inserted behind the scriptural text.

”Namo the Bodhisattva Guanyin,” sitting fearlessly on a lotus throne.

Paired with an embarrassing illustration.

”Namo Golden Arhat,” courageous and resolute, diligently striking the bell!

Again, accompanied by a drawing.

...

On the rooftop, Chen Jie looked at the content of the scripture and thought although it might not be a big deal after experiencing the information explosion in the latter times, in this era, such texts were absolutely heretical and forbidden.

Where on earth did this crazy woman get these books?

After reading a few pages, Huang Wan’er felt her heart racing and her body uncomfortable, so she quickly closed the scripture, took a sip of tea, and silently chanted ”Amitabha Buddha.”

It turned out that while checking the scripture repository of Jixiang Temple today, Huang Wan’er had accidentally come across this book hidden at the bottom and wrapped in yellow skin, obviously not meant to be seen. Driven by curiosity, she couldn’t help but take it.

After this glance, it felt like her worldview was tilting. Could such matters also be recorded in books?

Wasn’t it embarrassing?

And the Bodhisattva Guanyin—a pure incarnation—how could it be so, embarrassingly so!

She was like a girl in her adolescence, sneaking a peek at a forbidden book and unlocking a marvelous new world.

Her heart raced, her mouth was dry and her tongue parched; she took a sip of tea, but her heart could not settle down for a long time, and in her mind, she kept recalling that recent frenzy.

Seven days, it should be seven days today, right?

Time passed so slowly.

Thinking about this, Huang Wan’er lifted her head and suddenly saw that a tile on the roof had been moved. She was stunned.

She hid the scripture beneath the blanket under her table, then said, ”Whoever is on my roof, if you don’t want trouble, please leave at once.”

Chen Jie heard her words but did not speak, continuing to stay on the roof.

”Oh, it seems that you don’t want to leave. In that case, I’m going to call for help,” Huang Wan’er said calmly.

Seeing Huang Wan’er about to call out, Chen Jie said, ”Don’t shout, it’s me, your husband.”

”Hmm, Mr. Chen!”

Huang Wan’er’s eyes lit up, and she immediately went to the window saying, ”Mr. Chen hurry, come down this way. No one is here.”

Chen Jie, hearing her, covered the tile and went straight through the window.

Upon seeing each other, Huang Wan’er smiled and said, ”Mr. Chen is so trustworthy. Coming to find me at such a time, do you miss me, or do you miss the ’Spirit Transformation Grass’?”

”I missed both,” Chen Jie replied.

”Oh?”

Huang Wan’er smiled teasingly, while Chen Jie indeed told the truth. That night he had been tricked by Nan Batian and Feng Xuan, chased with a belly full of anger.

While he could find a way to retaliate against Feng Xuan, getting revenge against Nan Batian was tough. With no choice left, Chen Jie could only come and sneak into bed with his most important wife.

You dare to set me up, I’ll sleep with your woman, and your woman will give me treasures.

How about that, make you a green-headed turtle.

It must be said, Chen Jie had a bit of Kong Yiji’s spirit.

And sometimes, a person needs a bit of Kong Yiji’s spirit.

Huang Wan’er looked Chen Jie up and down, frowning slightly, ”Mr. Chen, what’s happened?”

”Nothing,” replied Chen Jie.

”Don’t lie to me. You are covered in dust and sweat, your clothes still bear mud stains, and you rushed here all the way. Where is your horse?”

”And at this time, the city gates are not yet open, yet here you are, which means that there must be some urgent situation. If you were chasing someone, you should have taken a horse. Since you didn’t, it indicates that the crisis reached such a level that you couldn’t wait to ride, and what’s more, you are probably the one being chased. What happened?”

Listening to Huang Wan’er’s analysis, Chen Jie narrowed his eyes and said, ”My wife is indeed insightful. You’ve noticed all of this.”

Huang Wan’er replied, ”So I’m right? Come on, there’s no need to hide it from me. I think no matter how severe other matters are, they are not as serious as you sleeping with Nan Batian’s wife. So, spill it.”

What Huang Wan’er said was indeed correct.

Even if Chen Jie had truly killed Peng Shizhong and was pursued by Nan Batian, it would not be as significant as the fact that he had slept with Nan Batian’s wife.

After all, the former scenario would make Nan Batian merely go through the motions.

The life or death of Chen Jie did not greatly impact him; once Peng Shizhong was dead, his objective would be achieved.

As for the latter issue, it involved Nan Batian personally. Knowing about this, he would most certainly use every means and spare no expense to have Chen Jie killed.

It wouldn’t be like now; only Qin Ying from Feng Xuan’s side was helping to catch him.
