Chapter 309: Chapter 134 What, You Want to Climb into Grandpa Chen’s Bed (10,000 Words Subscription Request)_6

The members of the Twelve Eagle Guards had very interesting names, the eldest was called Ying Da, and the second was called Ying Er.

Chen Jie was quite familiar with Ying Er, exchanging greetings with each other.

”Where are Uncle Fu and Ying Da?” Chen Jie inquired, to which Ying Er replied with a smile, ”Uncle Fu went to exchange some golden leaves, and the eldest went to the Spring Breeze Theater to scout the situation. The day after tomorrow, our Mr. Peng is planning to attend a music performance.”

Oh.

Chen Jie gave a casual response upon hearing this.

Chen Jie knew his adoptive father enjoyed listening to music; on his first trip to the city, he had attended a music performance himself.

In this regard, Chen Jie was very supportive.

After all, shouldn’t Old Peng, who had fought for a lifetime to establish his territory, be allowed to enjoy some leisure?

Let the music play, let the dancing resume!

...

”Adoptive father.”

Led by Ying Er, Chen Jie entered Peng Shizhong’s bedroom.

Peng Shizhong was reclining on his bed at the moment, holding a book in his hand, with a bowl of medicine on the table beside him, occasionally coughing, ”Cough cough...”

Peng Shizhong’s illness had not healed, and the consecutive grief of losing a son had prevented his complete recovery.

He could only rely on nourishing medicine for a slow recovery.

”Oh, Jiu Si, cough cough... Sit!”

Peng Shizhong gestured for Chen Jie to sit, and Chen Jie promptly did as he was told upon hearing the words.

Peng Shizhong put down the book and looked at Chen Jie, saying, ”Jiu Si, have you encountered any issues managing the affairs of the hall these past few days?”

Chen Jie replied, ”Everything went smoothly thanks to the strong support from all the brothers.”

”Cough cough... That’s good. If there are any difficulties, tell your adoptive father. I can still help you for a few more years.”

”Thank you, adoptive father.”

Chen Jie quickly bowed in thanks, and Peng Shizhong waved his hand, saying, ”Cough cough, what’s there to thank? We are father and son, father and son. Since you call me ’adoptive father,’ I can’t neglect you, cough cough...”

”Adoptive father, how about your injury?”

Chen Jie expressed his concern.

”It’s nothing serious; just wounded the heart and lungs. A month of recuperation should suffice. Right now, it’s just a bit of a cough; there are no other ailments.”

Chen Jie said, ”Adoptive father, let me feel your pulse.”

Peng Shizhong replied, ”Cough cough... Almost forgot you also studied medicine, Jiu Si. Sure, come feel your adoptive father’s pulse.”

Chen Jie stepped forward to take his pulse, and then relaxed his expression, indeed, as Peng Shizhong had said, there was no serious problem, and a month of recuperation would certainly see an improvement.

Peng Shizhong said, ”Cough cough, right? Your adoptive father wouldn’t lie to you. By the way, what brings you here this time?”

”Oh, adoptive father, it’s like this: I received a prescription which requires a specific medicine, and I was wondering if you had it.”

”Medicine? Which one?”

”Absolute Spirit Seed.”

”Absolute Spirit Seed, cough cough cough... I have some.”

Peng Shizhong instructed as he pointed in the direction of a secret room, ”Help yourself. It’s in the very last cabinet, the second drawer; that’s where you’ll find the Absolute Spirit Seed.”

”Aren’t you curious why I need the medicine?”

Chen Jie asked, to which Peng Shizhong laughed, ”Hehe... You are my adoptive son; it’s just a medicine you’re asking from your adoptive father. No need to explain so clearly, go take it.”

”Thank you, adoptive father.”

Chen Jie saluted with his fist, feeling deeply moved.

Upon entering the secret room, Chen Jie located the mentioned cabinet and indeed found the Absolute Spirit Seed, which looked very much like a hawthorn berry, with a fragrant fruity aroma.

Exiting the secret room, Chen Jie returned.

”Found it?”

Jie replied, ”Found it.”

”Good, that’s good. By the way, how’s your ’Stone Breaking Palm’ coming along?”

Jie replied, ”I’ve made some progress.”

”Show me a palm strike.”

Just as Jie prepared to demonstrate, Ying Er suddenly entered and said, ”Hall Master, the Old Master has arrived.”

Feng Xuan?

Jie was startled, and then Peng Shizhong said, ”Oh, let him in.”

Upon hearing this, Ying Er immediately went to let him in.

At that moment, Feng Xuan walked in from outside, looking as if he had been bathed in the spring breeze, his face full of smiles.

He carried a pot of wine and a food box in his hands.

Seeing Jie, he said, ”Ah, Fifth Brother is here too.”

Jie replied, ”Big Brother.”

Feng Xuan said, ”Sit, sit. I’ve come to see my adoptive father.”

”Adoptive father, are you feeling any better?”

Feng Xuan asked with concern, to which Peng Shizhong replied, ”Cough cough... I’m okay.”

Feng Xuan then said, ”Today, while sitting at home, I somehow thought of adoptive father and recalled the days when Second Brother and I learned from you.”

Peng Shizhong gave him a look.

Feng Xuan raised the wine jar and said, ”Adoptive father, remember how after each Kung Fu practice, you would take me and Second Brother to have Desheng Building’s roast chicken and drink northern spirits.”

”Today, I’ve brought them all here; let’s drink a little.”

Peng Shizhong looked at Feng Xuan and said, ”Eldest Brother, it’s been many years since you’ve sincerely drunk with me.”

Feng Xuan said, ”Ah, in the past, I was blinded by the desire for power. After Second Brother’s death, my heart has not been at ease. I’ve thought a lot. Let’s not talk about that. Fifth Brother, you are also here, let’s accompany adoptive father for a drink. Right, adoptive father, can your health handle alcohol?”

”Heh, you, my boy, invite me for a drink, and I can’t drink? Bring the bowls!”

Peng Shizhong was very pleased to hear Feng Xuan’s words, thinking that his eldest son had finally reformed.

Feng Xuan declared, ”Alright, bring the bowls, cheers.”

After several rounds, Peng Shizhong looked at Feng Xuan and asked, ”Eldest Brother, do you resent me?”

Eldest Brother paused for a moment, then seemed indifferent as he said, ”I resented.”

”Now I don’t.”

”Why?”

Feng Xuan replied, ”I’ve come to understand; adoptive father treating me this way is also a kind of encouragement, hoping that I won’t be too scheming and treat people sincerely. These past few days, I often think of Second Brother, and thinking about the past, our life-and-death struggles were actually meaningless. Why should brothers turn out this way? Fifth Brother, you are very good. In fact, you are more suitable than me and Second Brother to take on adoptive father’s responsibility.”

”These days, I’ve also realized that fame and fortune are fleeting. Tomorrow, send someone to my Peace Street, and I’ll hand it over to you. I also need some peace and quiet. When I have nothing to do, I’ll look for adoptive father to play chess and drink, which is nice.”

Jie watched Feng Xuan’s sincere demeanor, wondering what he was really plotting.

”Big Brother, I fear I may not be up to the task.”

”What’s not to be up to? I’ll have Si Xi help you. Later on, I will come to bother adoptive father more. Adoptive father, you must not find me annoying!”

Feng Xuan’s smile was gentle and warm.

Peng Shizhong was overjoyed, feeling that his eldest son had finally turned over a new leaf, and laughed, ”Haha, that’s great! How could adoptive father find you annoying? I’d be happy to have you come every day!”

Peng Shizhong was in high spirits, drinking with Jie and Feng Xuan.

Yet while Feng Xuan’s face bore a smile, his heart was filled with murderous intent!

You old fool, so happy to hand over power, clearly you never liked me. If that’s the case, don’t blame me for not considering father-son affection anymore!

”Hehe, drink up, let’s drink～”
