Chapter 974: Trouble at the door

[Name: Gu Chen (Maxwell Garfield)]

[Age: 19]

[Cultivation: Muscle Refinement, 5th Layer]

[Bloodline: Lust Overlord Bloodline (Second Lock Opened)]

[Skills: Basic Martial Arts]

[Harem: 0]

[Lust Points: 22,050→9050]

‘This is not enough.’ Max thought as he looked at his cultivation section.

Then his gaze came down to the Lust Points. ‘I need just four thousand more to level up to 6th Layer.’

Thinking this, he glanced at soundly sleeping Gu Lan. Seeing her condition, he dispersed the thought that had crossed his mind, ‘Nah, she needs rest.’

Right then…

“You from Gu family. If you don’t want him to die, come out this instant.” A loud, arrogant voice echoed from outside the shop.

Max’s eyes narrowed with a hint of surprise. ‘They came so soon?’

The Liu and Song families also had shops in this street, so he knew they had seen him beat Tie Xiong earlier.

While his Muscle Refinement cultivation wasn’t much of a threat to them, he knew seeing he had recovered, they would want to deal with him all the same.

After all, what if he somehow managed to reach Bone Refinement in the remaining half a year? Though the probability of this happening, in their opinion, was low to the point that it was almost impossible, they couldn’t just leave him be.

He understood this but he hadn’t expected them to come looking for him just an hour later after he showed himself.

‘Aren’t they being too impatient?’ He shook his head, not bothering to think why they were acting like this.

He unhurriedly stood up and after wiping his sweat with a piece of cloth he found lying around in a corner and fixing his clothes and hair, he crouched down beside Gu Lan and gently shook her shoulder, “Lan’er, wake up.”

Half a minute later, Gu Lan finally stirred awake, but she was still extremely sleepy.

“Big Brother… I’m exhausted. Let me sleep.” Sleepily murmuring this, she hugged his hand and closed her eyes.

Seeing this, Max wanted to let her sleep but in case the troublemakers stormed the shop, they would see her condition and would immediately guess what had happened.

While he didn’t mind others finding out about their relationship, Gu Lan most likely didn’t have the same mindset and she might not be able to endure the humiliation and embarrassment this reveal would bring her.

Thus, he once again woke her up and told her about the people outside.

Hearing this, Gu Lan’s sleepiness vanished and she began forcing herself to get up, “I’ll go with you—”

“No,” Max pressed his hand on her shoulder, stopping her, “You stay here and just fix yourself. I’ll deal with them.”

“But—” Gu Lan was still worried.

“Don’t forget I’m a Muscle Refinement cultivator now and if I may be blunt, I’m way stronger than you.” Max interrupted her, “I can deal with them alone. Don’t worry. Besides, they wouldn’t dare harm me with everyone watching.”

Gu Lan let up after hearing this. “Just be careful, alright?” She said with concern.

Max nodded. After a thought, he picked up a small jade disk from Gu Lan’s side. “Let me borrow this for a bit.”

“Mm.” Gu Lan obviously didn’t refuse.

Putting it inside his robes, he stood up, opened the storage room’s door and walked out while closing it shut after him.

Immediately, he saw a few men staring inside the shop. When they saw him, their eyes flashed with a hint of ruthlessness.

Max ignored it, grabbed a well-cooked fish, ready for sale, and leisurely took a large bite out of it.

Then while chewing it, he stepped out of the shop, swept his gaze across the gathered crowd before focusing on two men, holding a youngster, who he recognised as his second uncle’s son—Gu Chanhui.

When he noticed the injuries on his body, his black, swollen eyes, broken nose and bleeding lips, a chilly murderous glint flashed in the depths of his eyes.

Then, he casually asked, “Aren’t you Song Family’s trash? What’s this commotion about?”

His composure and utter disregard of Song family’s duo surprised the crowd while the faces of Song Family’s duo darkened.

“Woah! This guy got guts. I respect him.” Someone in the crowd commented, impressed.

“What guts? He must not be aware of his family’s situation fully since he had just recovered, otherwise he wouldn’t have dared to anger them like that.”

“Yeah. Don’t you know the people of Liu and Song family have been causing trouble for Gu family for months, but they have never dared retaliate.”

…

Hearing the crowd’s words, Max raised his brows. Neither Gu Yinyin, nor Go Rong mentioned any of this. As for Gu Lan… well, he hadn’t conversed with her about the family’s situation properly. The same was true for his second sister in law, Li Xiaomin.

“You little bastard, do you want to die?!” One of the two from the Song family raged. At the same time, he raised his hand and slapped the back of Gu Chanhui’s head, making the boy wince in pain.

Max’s expression remained the same and didn’t even look at Gu Chanhui as if he couldn’t care less about him.

Seeing this, Gu Chanhui, who was happy to see him and wanted to tell him not to do anything reckless to save him, felt a despondent feeling arise in his heart.

‘Does he really not care about me?’ He thought.

Similarly, the Song duo was also surprised, but then they sneered.

“What composure, what ruthlessness. As expected of Patriarch Gu’s son.” One of them praised.

The other, however, shook his head in disagreement and raised his hand again, “I don’t think the same. Let me test it a few times more. If he still doesn’t react, I would believe he is that impressive.”

Before he could hit Chanhui again, Max met his gaze and calmly said, “Stop this farce and just spit out what you are here for.”

Song Huichen wanted to sneer but he felt a chill run down his spine when he met Max’s gaze. This surprised him and made him wary.

‘This guy… something’s not right with him.’ He thought, feeling uneasy.

He was told that this Gu Chen kid seemed to have become a Muscle Refinement realm cultivator, but thinking he had just entered this realm, he didn’t take him seriously because he, himself, was a seasoned Muscle Refinement realm cultivator and one in the Fourth Layer at that.

But since he felt fear facing him, he couldn’t be an ordinary Muscle Refinement cultivator.

This realization shocked him and made him feel very uncomfortable. But then he let out a sigh of relief, ‘Thankfully we noticed him soon enough. Otherwise, if he was given time, he might have become a threat to the family.’
