Cutesy Wife Sweet Like Honey: Mr. Mu's Nightly Dote!

Chapter 129: Chapter 129: Betrothal Gifts?

”Uncle, you must be hungry too! Try this tomato scrambled egg and see if it’s good!” Ye Anxin cheerfully picked up some steaming tomato scrambled egg and placed it in Mu Beiting’s bowl.

This was her favorite dish to eat; whenever she cooked, she made it without fail! Because she loved it, she hoped Mu Beiting would like it just as much.

Mu Beiting still maintained his calm demeanor, slowly picking up his bowl and chopsticks, and eating gracefully, as if the bustling world had nothing to do with him, and neither did the people around him.

Father Ye watched Mu Beiting swallow and, although he had many complaints about him, dared not express them, so he turned to Huo Junmo, saying, ”Mr. Huo, you should eat too! These dishes were all personally made by our Anxin, so don’t be picky!”

In his view, a son-in-law should please his father-in-law. Among the people he knew, which son-in-law didn’t treat the father-in-law like a revered ancestor!

Previously, Mu Rufeng treated him that way as well. Although Huo Junmo didn’t treat him like an ancestor, his attitude was gentle, completely unlike Mu Beiting, who seemed to ignore him as if he didn’t exist.

”Hmm!” Huo Junmo nodded, picked up his bowl and chopsticks, and silently ate.

The dining room suddenly quieted, the atmosphere becoming subtly different, and the seating arrangement was no longer the same.

Mother Ye still sat at the head of the table, Father Ye on her left, Huo Junmo next to Father Ye, and Ling Yueyue next to Huo Junmo.

Ye Anxin sat to Mother Ye’s right, with Mu Beiting beside her and Yan Qinghan next to Mu Beiting.

Ling Yueyue, head down, shoveled food into her mouth while blinking her big eyes, secretly watching everyone’s expressions.

Honestly, she was quite impressed with Huo Junmo and Mu Beiting in front of her. Despite the tension, they sat together as if nothing was happening.

People always say that rivals in love are particularly jealous upon meeting! How come Huo Junmo and Mu Beiting could meet so harmoniously?

Indeed, they were big figures, not something us ordinary folks could understand.

Even Ling Yueyue could sense the odd atmosphere in the dining room, but Ye Anxin didn’t feel it at all! On the contrary, she was quite cheerful; her good mood improved her appetite.

She simply felt that for Uncle to acknowledge her parents and be here was recognition of her and her family, so she was delighted, genuinely delighted since now she no longer had to lie and make excuses to her parents.

”Uh... Be... Beiting, right?” During the meal, Father Ye tried to open a conversation with Mu Beiting.

However, before he finished speaking, he felt Mu Beiting’s cold gaze sweep over.

Mu Beiting’s look caused Father Ye to swallow his words, sweating from just one glance, his heart filled with apprehension.

Yan Qinghan put a piece of beef in his mouth, chewing as he spoke with a smile, ”Uncle, it’s like this. Mu Beiting isn’t fond of people calling him so intimately. Look, I’ve known him for years and always call him by his full name! So feel free to just call him Mu Beiting!”

”Oh... oh...” Father Ye nodded, blushing, feeling a million things wrong with Mu Beiting but dared not say a word.

After Mu Beiting’s glance, he had lost all interest in talking.

Earlier, he had intended to talk to Mu Beiting, and discuss the dowry! Now it seems, never mind a million, even a thousand might be out of reach.

Sigh...

Thinking this, Father Ye couldn’t help but feel frustrated with Ye Anxin, disappointed as if she wasn’t living up to expectations.

Mother Ye quietly ate while secretly observing Mu Beiting and Ye Anxin.

Seeing Ye Anxin cautiously serving him, afraid of him getting angry, made her feel sorry for her daughter.

All her life, she had been this careful; she really didn’t want her daughter to follow in her footsteps! Marrying a man who doesn’t care, no matter how much he loves you, if he’s too self-centered and disregards others’ feelings, the woman following him would have a hard time.

Though she felt sorry for her daughter, as long as Ye Anxin was happy and felt it was worth it, she wouldn’t stop her! After all, it’s their life to live, and she couldn’t interfere as an outsider.

The meal was consumed in this strange atmosphere, with everyone harboring their own thoughts.

Ye Anxin and Ling Yueyue together nestled in the kitchen, one washing dishes, the other drying and putting them away with a cloth!

Ling Yueyue, head down, while drying the water stains on the plates, asked meaningfully, ”Anxin, are you really not involved with Mr. Huo?”

Ye Anxin smiled and explained, ”Of course not, I told you before, we’re just ordinary friends! At the time I married Uncle, we hadn’t made our relationship public, so I couldn’t explain to you! Now you see, I’m married. How could I still have anything with another man! So, you’ve been overthinking it all along!”

”That’s good!” Ling Yueyue finally breathed a sigh of relief, her perpetually furrowed brows finally relaxing.

Ye Anxin turned her head, puzzled, asking, ”What do you mean, ’that’s good’?”

”Nothing, nothing!” Ling Yueyue waved the cloth in her hand, shaking her head.

”So mysterious!” Ye Anxin gave her a puzzled look and continued washing the dishes.

Outside in the living room.

Mu Beiting sat straight on the sofa, Yan Qinghan lounging lazily beside him, tall body leaning back on the sofa, legs crossed, holding a peeled apple, smiling as he ate. Huo Junmo sat beside Yan Qinghan, also sitting upright like Mu Beiting.

Huo Junmo broke the silence first, ”Beiting, when are you planning to hold the wedding banquet?”

This statement drew everyone’s gaze to Mu Beiting.

Mu Beiting’s thin lips pressed into a line, not answering for a while.

Just when everyone thought he wouldn’t respond, he slowly said, ”No need!”

...

The room fell silent instantly; Father Ye and Mother Ye both furrowed their brows.

Huo Junmo continued to smile, ”You see, how could you get married without telling the brothers? At the very least, we should give you a wedding gift!”

Mu Beiting was firm, ”No need!”

...

Father Ye’s brows furrowed even more, his dissatisfaction with Mu Beiting deepening.

After finishing the apple, Yan Qinghan tossed the core into the trash bin, saying with a grin, ”By the way, Uncle, since Mu Beiting married your daughter, you ought to ask him for something, don’t you think? Like, a dowry?”

”I...!” Father Ye was about to speak, but seeing Mu Beiting’s face colder than ice, he couldn’t get the words out.

Yan Qinghan raised an eyebrow, continuing with a smile, ”Don’t mind him; he just has this sullen face! Feel free to ask for anything, Mu Beiting’s rich! Like, a villa? Shares in Mu Corporation? Or just ask him for a branch company! That’s just a thing of a finger for him!”
