The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Yi Qihang pointed at Xiao Yuan and said to the big man behind him, ”Go, show him this.”

The big man closest to Xiao Yuan placed a check on the table in front of him.

Xiao Yuan glanced down and chuckled, ”That’s quite a bit.”

Yi Qihang kept a stern face, ”I hope you take the money and get lost, stay far away from Anning, and never appear in front of her again.”

Xiao Yuan cheerfully looked at Yi Qihang, ”Go on.”

Yi Qihang frowned.

Feeling irritated, he spoke coldly, ”Do you think you’re a match for Anning? She’s a student at Imperial University, while you can barely read. What can you offer her? If you really care about Anning, you should recognize your status and leave her as soon as possible.”

Xiao Yuan’s lips curled up into an increasingly obvious smile, ”That’s between Anning and me, it’s not for you to meddle in.”

Yi Qihang stood up, walked to the table, and looked down at Xiao Yuan from above, ”I can arrange a good job for Anning, I can buy her anything she wants. With me, she wouldn’t need to worry or work hard, but with you? If she’s with you, she’d have to work at construction sites, you’ve even made her do labor before. Don’t you feel ashamed as a man? Or is it because you want more money? If that’s the case, name your price.”

Xiao Yuan found all this quite interesting.

In all the lifetimes he and Anning had been together, this was the first time he encountered a fool trying to threaten him with money to leave Anning.

It was indeed rather amusing.

He smiled, ”What if I say no?”

Yi Qihang was taken aback.

He glanced at the check; it clearly stated one million.

After all, it was the 1990s, and a million was a lot; it would be enough to return to the countryside to build a house, marry a wife, buy a car, and raise kids.

He looked back at Xiao Yuan, thinking this man surely wants to ask for an astronomical price.

He pulled out a blank check from his pocket, ”Fill it in yourself, as long as you leave Anning, any amount is fine with me.”

Xiao Yuan picked up the check and tossed it into Yi Qihang’s chest, ”Are you stupid?”

Yi Qihang was stunned.

Xiao Yuan laughed, ”If I wrote one hundred million, would you give it too? You’re really just a rich fool, openly waiting to be scammed. If you gave me the money, I’d be rich, then I’d buy a villa and luxury cars. With my face, do you think Anning would leave me? You’re just handing me money to charm her.”

Uh?

Yi Qihang frowned.

It seemed to make sense.

Xiao Yuan stood up and patted Yi Qihang on the shoulder, ”Hey, even if you’re rich, you shouldn’t just throw money away like this. You act foolishly all the time, don’t you know how many times you’ve been scammed? You’re so wealthy, you could find any girl you want. Why are you picking a fight with me?”

Yi Qihang was almost dizzy from Xiao Yuan’s words.

Xiao Yuan wrapped an arm around his shoulder, leading him out, ”Go back and think it over. Don’t spend all day watching mindless TV dramas and learn from those idiots on TV. If you act rashly, you’ll just throw lots of money away. You’re like a total fool, but you’ve bumped into me with some conscience. If you met a black-hearted one, they’d take your money and still seek out Anning. They could run off anywhere with that money, maybe even abroad, and you wouldn’t have anywhere to cry.”

With all his persuasion and cajoling, Xiao Yuan managed to push Yi Qihang out the door, ”Be a good man, journey well, no need to see you off.”

Yi Qihang stood outside for a while, snowflakes covering him before he realized he’d been played.

”Damn it.”

Yi Qihang cursed, wanting to go back and settle the score with Xiao Yuan, but feeling embarrassed, he had to leave with seething anger.

After sending Yi Qihang away, Xiao Yuan quickly washed his hands, wiping them while saying, ”Where did this silly fool come from?”

If Anning were here, she’d know Xiao Yuan’s expression meant he was extremely angry. Whoever provoked him wouldn’t come out looking good.

After lunch, Anning and a few others went shopping.

Anning told them she’d be going to her boyfriend’s house for dinner tonight, and the girls felt it was impolite to go empty-handed, so they pooled some money to buy milk or something.

Of course, the items weren’t expensive since they were all students and couldn’t afford luxurious gifts. They just needed to bring something as a basic gesture of courtesy.

After school in the afternoon, Anning brought her five roommates home.

Xiao Yuan initially said he’d pick them up, but today it snowed heavily, making the roads difficult to travel by car, so Anning didn’t let Xiao Yuan come.

The six girls walked while chatting and laughing. With company, they didn’t feel tired and arrived without realizing how far they’d walked.

Tong Yue, who was rather straightforward, looked around at the neighborhood when they reached the entrance, ”Ningning, your boyfriend’s family seems well-off, the house looks nice.”

”He’s from the same village as me.”

Previously, Anning hadn’t mentioned what Xiao Yuan did, but she didn’t hide now, explaining while walking, ”His family isn’t that well-off, they have many brothers, actually quite poor, but he’s very capable...”

Milan asked Anning while listening, ”Did he leave the Provincial City to follow you to the Capital because of your studies here?”

Anning nodded, ”Originally, he planned to develop in the Provincial City, but he didn’t want to be apart from me, so he followed me here. After coming here, he found a way to do interior decoration and now has his own company. It’s developing quite well.”

”Your boyfriend seems really good to you.”

Chu Yu nodded.

Since they were all students and hadn’t stepped into society, they were still quite innocent. Plus, being students from Imperial University, they had a touch of pride and none of them were superficial. They valued pure relationships and didn’t care about whether Xiao Yuan matched Anning. They only felt it was admirable that Xiao Yuan could go to such lengths for Anning and work so hard to be with her.

They chatted and laughed as they went upstairs, and Xiao Yuan hurried over to open the door when he heard footsteps.

The girls entered, changed into slippers, put their things down, and immediately sought the heater.

”Gosh, it’s freezing, I need to warm up fast.”

Xiao Qin had come over in the afternoon to help with cooking, and hearing the voices, she stepped out of the kitchen.

She had already prepared hot jujube tea and brought it out while it was still warm, ”It’s really cold outside today; you must have been freezing after walking for so long. Have some hot tea to warm up.”

After drinking tea, the five girls finally took the time to look at Anning’s boyfriend.

After just one look, they all understood.

Sun Keke sat beside Anning, whispering, ”Come on, admit it, was it his face that attracted you? Honestly, your boyfriend’s looks are something else. I’ve never seen anyone this good-looking in my life.”

Anning smiled, ”It’s a family trait; all his siblings are good-looking.”

”With a face like that, he should be an actor.”

Tong Yue chimed in.

Xiao Qin happened to be holding a fruit platter and overheard, smiling, ”Being an actor requires more than just looks, you have to know how to act and understand a lot. We can’t even read much, looks alone wouldn’t get us far.”

She set down the fruit platter, proudly saying, ”My second brother made this fruit platter, isn’t it beautiful?”

Indeed, it was beautiful.

If it were twenty years later, the girls would have whipped out their phones to snap pictures for social media.

But in the 1990s, the five girls simply admired it and, amazed, refrained from eating it because it was so pretty, they couldn’t bring themselves to ruin it.

Soon, the meal was served.

Xiao Yuan emerged from the kitchen as he removed his apron, inviting everyone to eat.
