The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

After sending off Xiao Yuan, Anning calmed down to study.

Apart from reading books and doing exercises every day, she prepared meals to deliver to the hospital when it was Li Cuixia’s turn to care for the patient.

When she arrived at the hospital, Anning would make sure Li Cuixia ate well while she fed Ge San Ni, helped her to the bathroom, and cleaned her face, hands, and feet.

Anning didn’t approve of Ge San Ni’s character, but since Yang Erchou and Li Cuixia were filial, she did it anyway.

Anning did these things not for Ge San Ni’s sake, but for Li Cuixia’s.

If she did a little more, Li Cuixia could have it a bit easier.

Ge San Ni stayed in the hospital for four or five days. Anning visited her almost every day, but during that time, neither Yang Fuyu nor Yang Fugui showed up once.

Wang Shushu said she also went to the hospital to help.

But she was really stingy, always bringing some dry food with her, and when it was time to eat, she would just eat the dry food and drink hot water from the hospital.

Not only did she do this herself, but she also made Ge San Ni eat this way.

In her words, the food made in a restaurant could never match the cleanliness of home-cooked food, and eating at home was more reassuring.

In these four or five days, Ge San Ni really saw through many things.

As soon as she was discharged and returned home, Ge San Ni told Yang Erchou to call her three daughters together.

In addition to Ge San Ni’s three daughters, the two brothers Yang Erchou and Yang Dachou, she also called Yang Anzhen, Anning, as well as Fuyu and Fugui together.

Once everyone was there, she spoke directly: ”I want to live separately from your father. Your father will stay with the Eldest, and I’ll live with the Second.”

”What?”

Yang Lao Mao was unwilling to accept this: ”Old woman, what are you trying to say? In our old age, you...”

Ge San Ni raised her eyebrows: ”If you’re not willing to separate, then let’s get a divorce.”

Hearing this made Yang Lao Mao even angrier, and he moved to hit Ge San Ni.

Yang Junni and her sisters quickly held back Yang Lao Mao: ”Dad, what are you doing? Mom just got out of the hospital, if you hurt her again, who will take care of her?”

Yang Lao Mao was trembling with anger: ”Listen to what she’s saying. I’m about to hold my great-grandchild, and she’s talking about divorce. I’m not embarrassed, but she isn’t?”

Ge San Ni had really made up her mind.

This illness had made her see through many things, and she realized nothing was more important than her own life. Living well was the most important thing. As for sons, daughters, and grandchildren, whoever wants to take care of them can, but she was done caring.

Why did she want to live with Yang Erchou?

She could see that Yang Erchou was filial.

Not only was Yang Erchou filial, but Li Cuixia was a good person too. They raised their children well.

She hadn’t taken care of Anning and Anzhen sisters since they were young, so she couldn’t say anything good about them. But during her days of illness, it was Anning who took the best care of her.

Ge San Ni had thought it through. If she continued living with Yang Dachou’s family, she might one day die without anyone noticing.

Even if there wasn’t any illness, living with that family meant suffering. She’d have to work until death, unable to eat even a little good food.

But if she lived with Yang Erchou’s family, she would enjoy life.

She lived almost her entire life, and near the end, when she was in the grave, wasn’t living just to enjoy the days she had left?

With her eyebrows raised, Ge San Ni also fumed: ”I’m not ashamed. I’ve never been a thief or kept a lover. What should I be afraid of? Unlike you, you hug Widow Liu. If I hadn’t seen it, who knows what else you’d have done over the years behind my back?”

”I, I...”

Yang Lao Mao took a deep breath: ”I already explained, I just went to inquire about something, and saw Aunt Liu fell, so I helped...”

”That’s what you say.”

Ge San Ni curled her lips.

She looked towards Yang Erchou: ”Er Chou, tell me, if you saw a woman fall outside, would you hold her?”

With Li Cuixia there, and their two daughters watching, Yang Erchou definitely said no.

He shook his head vigorously: ”No, I definitely wouldn’t. I’d have a female comrade help her, or find someone else to help. I wouldn’t be alone with a woman... Besides, she just fell, not into a river. If she fell into a river, I’d certainly jump in to save her without thinking.”

Ge San Ni smugly looked at Yang Lao Mao: ”Did you hear that? Even your son understands this simple truth. How could you, at your age, not know? I think you are pretending to be confused to take advantage. You stubborn old man, I can’t live like this. I can’t live with you. I want to live with the Second.”

Seeing the situation, Wang Shushu’s eyes rolled, and she smiled: ”Dad, Mom is angry right now. If she wants to stay with the Second, let her. After a while, we can persuade her.”

She nudged Yang Dachou as she spoke.

Yang Dachou understood and quickly agreed: ”Yes, Mom can’t be upset anymore. Let her do as she likes right now, or it might lead to something more serious.”

Yang Junni sat quietly without saying anything.

Yang Baoni looked at Yang Erchou: ”Second Brother, what do you think?”

Yang Erchou glanced at Li Cuixia.

Li Cuixia thought for a moment: ”If Mom wants to come over, let her come over.”

Yang Lingni stood up: ”I’ll go pack Mom’s things.”

Seeing the matter resolved, Ge San Ni smiled.

She held Anning’s hand: ”Ningning, don’t worry. Grandma can still move. If your parents are busy, Grandma will cook for you, so you can focus on your studies.”

Anning thought to herself, I really should thank you.

Everyone in this room seems to have their plans, and Anning understood them all.

Anzhen was not stupid either; she saw everything clearly.

She looked at Ge San Ni, then at Yang Dachou: ”Shouldn’t we sort out the expenses from Grandma’s hospital stay?”

Anning asked Yang Erchou: ”Dad, how much did Grandma’s treatment cost? Do you have the receipts? If so, show them to Big Brother, as our two families should split it.”

”I have them.”

Yang Erchou was about to take out the receipts.

Yang Dachou quickly said: ”Well, let’s not split it this time. Since Mom wants to stay with you, let’s make it clear. From now on, everything related to Mom’s food, ward, and treatment is your responsibility. Dad will stay with me, and I’ll handle his matters.”

That’s precisely what Anning and Anzhen wanted to hear.

Yang Erchou merely wanted to force Yang Dachou into saying it clearly.

”Alright, let’s consider it settled. But let’s make it clear this time; no more confusion. Let’s not have a situation where Mom’s hospitalization cost falls on me, and Dad’s hospitalization cost does too—I don’t have that kind of money.”

”Fine, let’s make it clear.”

Yang Dachou responded decisively: ”Our sisters are here, and they can attest to it being accurate.”

Yang Junni stood up: ”Second Brother, we all heard it. I can testify for you.”

With the conversation reaching this point, the arrangement was finalized.

Yang Lingni had already packed Ge San Ni’s things, and Yang Erchou found a vehicle to bring Ge San Ni home.

Yang Dachou’s family sent them off, while Yang Lao Mao was still sulking in the house.

Yang Junni and her sisters followed Yang Erchou home.

As they walked, Yang Junni spoke to Li Cuixia: ”Second Sister-in-law, today’s outcome wasn’t ideal for you. We sisters understand it well. Back when the house was divided, it was given to Big Brother, and you left with nothing. It was agreed Big Brother would care for Mom and Dad, but today... Mom is scared. Years ago, she was confused, so don’t take her to heart. In the future, if she causes any trouble, send us a message, and we’ll talk to her.”

What Yang Junni said was sensible, which made Li Cuixia feel a little better: ”What could I possibly hold against her? She’s already old. Let’s not mention past events.”

Yang Baoni squeezed next to Yang Erchou: ”Second Brother, Big Brother and sister-in-law are not acting right. I understand what they’re thinking today. You’re not naive either, so you also must understand, but we should not get too serious with them. I know you feel wronged today, but it’s all for Mom.”

In fact, everyone knew in their hearts.

Yang Dachou and Wang Shushu noticed Ge San Ni was ill and feared she might become seriously ill someday, requiring much care. They thought if she became bedridden and needed someone to attend to her every need, it would be a huge burden. So they couldn’t wait to get Ge San Ni to move out.

They wanted to keep Yang Lao Mao because he was still strong and could contribute to the household.

This couple had put too much thought into it, leaving Yang Junni’s sisters feeling uncomfortable and cold inside.
