The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

”I knew it.”

Li Cuixia angrily slapped the side of the bed: ”I’ve been wondering why they always come when we’re busy. So this is their plan.”

An Zhen stormed: ”Mom, in the future, when my uncle’s family comes over, don’t give them a good face.”

Yang Erchou heard the noise and came over: ”What’s going on, you three are shouting about?”

Li Cuixia repeated what Anning had just said.

Yang Erchou was also quite angry when he heard it: ”It’s clear they want to ruin Ningning. We’ve worked hard to earn and save money so Ningning can go to a good university and not worry about money while studying. Damn it, they dare to pull this stunt on me. Just watch, I’ll deal with them.”

”What do you plan to do?”

Li Cuixia asked Yang Erchou.

Yang Erchou waved his hand: ”I’ll think about it. But if I don’t stir things up this time, they won’t stop coming to us for money.”

”Take it easy, that’s still your brother.”

Li Cuixia knew Yang Erchou well.

He looks honest, always smiling when chatting with anyone, respectful and filial to his parents, never argued with Dachou, but that’s until you touch his bottom line.

If you cross Yang Erchou’s line, he becomes malicious in silence, able to torment you without a trace.

After marrying into the Yang Family, Li Cuixia saw several incidents like this.

When she first married over, the Eldest was always stronger, and she endured it a few times. Who knew the Eldest grew more excessive, once almost pushed her into the river while washing clothes.

When Yang Erchou found out, he was truly angry, but didn’t confront Yang Dachou. He seemed calm outwardly, but not long after, the Eldest fell directly into the paddy field while planting, ended up with mud in mouth, nose, and eyes, and fell sick for days.

Later, when Li Cuixia gave birth to Anning, Yang Lao Mao insisted that Yang Erchou and Yang Dachou’s house exchange a child, but Yang Erchou refused, arguing with Yang Lao Mao.

Ge San Ni resented Li Cuixia for this, taking cold water to splash onto Li Cuixia’s bed during frigid winter, drenching both Li Cuixia and Anning in cold water.

This happened just after childbirth, causing Li Cuixia to catch a chill, and Anning to freeze. If Yang Erchou hadn’t returned early, both might have fallen ill.

Because of this, Yang Erchou caused a stir with Ge San Ni, and before the month was over, the family was split.

Since then, Yang Lao Mao and Ge San Ni tried several times to make Anning and An Zhen a bargaining chip, but each time ended poorly for them.

Through these repeated events, Li Cuixia clearly understood.

Yang Erchou’s bottom line is his wife and children. He doesn’t mind how others treat him, nor suffers in silence, but if you trouble his wife and children, he’ll fight with you. If he can’t do it immediately, he’ll get you back eventually.

Because of Yang Erchou’s character, though the Yang Family had some eccentricities, Li Cuixia never felt wronged. Anning and An Zhen, the two children, also had good temperaments. They seemed gentle, not competitive, but inwardly resolute, never taking a loss.

Li Cuixia reminded Yang Erchou once again, and Yang Erchou laughed: ”I know, it’s my brother, what could I possibly do to him?”

He thought to himself that he’d most likely make things difficult for his nephew. Damn it, you can’t manage marrying, so you instigate elders to demand cousin’s tuition as bride price. Such cowardly, useless scoundrel, who else to teach a lesson if not him.

After saying this, Yang Erchou looked at Anning: ”Ning, take it easy. If you want anything these days, just tell dad, and I’ll buy it for you.”

”Okay.”

Anning nodded with a smile.

Li Cuixia glared at Yang Erchou: ”Go to school later to ask leave for Ningning, tell the teacher Ningning is resting at home for a few days, and will return before the college entrance exam.”

”Okay.”

Yang Erchou used the towel hanging around his neck to wipe his face: ”I’ve just got a job, I’ll go to school after arranging it.”

Li Cuixia waved: ”Hurry up and go.”

Anning saw Yang Erchou was about to go out and quickly said: ”Dad, the sun’s strong today. Remember to wear a hat when you go out, and asking for leave isn’t urgent. Wait till the sun sets to go.”

After giving instructions to Yang Erchou, Anning turned to Yang Anzhen: ”Sis, later cook some iced sweet green bean soup, cool it in cold water, and let dad take a pot when he goes to the county.”

Yang Erchou, hearing this, smiled so broadly that wrinkles appeared: ”My daughter cares about me, alright, dad listens to you.”

He left cheerfully, humming a tune as he walked out.

Yang Anzhen saw Anning still looking a bit unwell and said, ”I’ll make the green bean soup.”

Li Cuixia still had work outside, got up: ”I’m going out to work now, you take a good rest.”

Anning yawned: ”Okay.”

Once Yang Anzhen and Li Cuixia left, Anning really lay down to rest.

This nap lasted quite long, until the sunset before she woke up.

When she opened her eyes, she found the weather pleasantly cool.

Anning sat up and saw a bowl of cooled green bean soup on the table beside the bed.

She gulped it down, then put on her shoes and got out of bed.

Yang Anzhen had already gone, Li Cuixia was busy cooking in the kitchen.

As soon as Anning stepped out, she smelled the aroma of stir-fry.

She wandered around the kitchen, Li Cuixia handed her half a packet of biscuits: ”Eat some if you’re hungry, your dad’s not back yet, wait until he returns to eat dinner.”

Anning took the biscuits: ”Mom, I’m going for a walk.”

Li Cuixia was busy cooking, didn’t mind Anning: ”Don’t go too far, remember to come back for dinner.”

Anning agreed and left the yard.

She has some memories of the original owner, but those are just memories, not as vivid as experiencing first-hand.

At least she wasn’t quite clear about Yangjiazhuang’s surroundings.

Coming out from home, Anning saw a straight road leading to the village outskirts, with trees beside for shade, houses across the road, and fields and small hills beyond.

The heat had dissipated, standing under the tree, with a breeze, it felt quite refreshing.

Anning took a biscuit and walked along the road.

There was nothing much to do, she wanted to stroll through the village, then meet Yang Erchou along the road at the village entrance.

She hadn’t walked far along the road before the houses disappeared, replaced by woods or fields. At this time, the wheat was harvested, corn just planted and hadn’t sprouted, looked rather bare.

Anning stood roadside, faintly seeing people busy weeding in the fields.

She watched for a bit, then walked forward.

After a short walk, Anning felt tired.

She found a place to sit, took out another biscuit to nibble.

Just a few bites later, Anning saw someone driving a flock of sheep from the opposite side. Seeing the person’s appearance, Anning suddenly coughed several times, biscuit crumbs sprayed out, almost choking her.

The person was actually Xiao Yuan.

In this life, Xiao Yuan had become a shepherd boy.
