The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Xiao Yuan said he wanted to go to the Capital, and Xiao Qin was somewhat reluctant.

She felt that selling buns in the Provincial City was pretty good, and they were earning quite a bit. In just one or two years, she and Xiao Yuan could each buy a house in the Provincial City. Then they could rent a shop, hire a few people to sell buns together. Wouldn’t that be wonderful?

But Xiao Yuan’s ambitions did not lie in selling buns.

Running a small shop and selling buns for a lifetime was not something Xiao Yuan could see himself doing.

He said to Xiao Qin, ”Do you think I can match Anning just by selling buns?”

Huh?

Xiao Qin fell silent.

Xiao Yuan added, ”We can’t sell buns for a lifetime. What’s so great about that? Besides, we can sell buns in the Capital too, so why insist on staying in the Provincial City without moving?”

Seeing that Xiao Yuan was determined to go, Xiao Qin reluctantly agreed.

The siblings sold buns for a few more days until they used up all the flour they had at home, and then they started packing to move to the Capital.

Upon reaching the Capital, Xiao Yuan and Xiao Qin stayed at a guesthouse for a few days while Xiao Yuan wandered around, gathering information.

A few days later, he bought a three-room apartment near Imperial University.

It was a newly built neighborhood, and the housing prices were not cheap for the time. As a result, there were a few vacant units left, which included both regular apartments and two storefront properties.

Those two storefronts were right next to each other. Xiao Yuan thought it was too much of a coincidence. He inquired about the price and directly bought two apartments along with the two storefront properties.

After the purchase, Xiao Yuan spent another day outside, gathered some carpenters and masons from rural areas to form a renovation team, and started renovating the properties he had bought.

When Anning’s family arrived in the Capital, Xiao Yuan’s property renovations had just started.

Anning’s family arrived at the entrance of Imperial University, and when Anning looked to the left, she saw Xiao Yuan standing at a distance.

She smiled at Xiao Yuan, and he gestured back at her.

”What are you looking at?”

Li Cuixia asked Anning.

Anning quickly replied, ”Nothing, I just feel this school is so wonderful.”

Li Cuixia felt a bit carsick, so her mood wasn’t very good.

But the Old Madam was quite spirited.

She kept looking around at the scenery with a smile on her face, ”Isn’t it the Capital? This place is just wonderful, and the school is great too. Why is this school so big?”

Anning supported the Old Madam, ”Yes, Imperial University is indeed big. I’ll accompany Grandma for a walk later.”

The Yang family laughed and chatted as they entered the university campus.

Xiao Yuan watched Anning enter the school before he decided to leave, but he felt something was not right.

He quickly pinpointed a black sedan parked at the university entrance. Squinting, Xiao Yuan took note of the car and memorized the license plate number.

If his intuition was correct, the person in the car had been watching Anning.

Xiao Yuan was confident; his instincts were seldom wrong.

Xiao Yuan also knew that Yang Anning had never left L County, let alone visited the Capital. The Yang family had no relatives in the Capital. So who was this person watching Anning?

Before leaving Imperial University, Xiao Yuan was still pondering over this matter.

He felt he needed to speed up making money.

Yi Qihang sat in the car, watching Anning walk into the campus with a radiant smile, and he couldn’t help but smile too.

After yearning for so many years, he finally saw the person he had been thinking about, which put Yi Qihang in a good mood.

In fact, he had almost forgotten what Anning looked like when she first entered the school. But today, many memories flooded back.

Anning was the campus belle when she was studying. She was very beautiful and pure, the epitome of many people’s first love. He still remembered the excitement and joy when he pursued Anning and the inner peace they shared when cherishing and understanding each other.

Those times were indeed filled with many beautiful moments.

Seeing Anning again, Yi Qihang found that she seemed even better than he remembered.

He found Anning to be astonishingly beautiful, so much so that it dazzled him.

And Anning’s smile was so brilliant that he wanted to cherish it.

Even after watching Anning go farther away, Yi Qihang was still somewhat lost in thought.

He rested his hand on his chest where his heart was pounding wildly.

”You are truly worth waiting for.”

Yi Qihang murmured. He stayed at the entrance of Imperial University for over an hour before leaving.

Anning’s family first went to register, paid the tuition and accommodation fees, received the keys to the dormitory, and then picked up the bedding before heading to the dorm building with their luggage.

The dormitory was bustling with people—students and parents alike, with noises echoing in the hallways.

Yang Erchou led the way and quickly found Anning’s dorm room.

Anning was the first student to arrive in that dormitory.

She unlocked the door with her key, and Li Cuixia asked Anning, ”Ningning, which bed do you want to take?”

Anning pointed at the bed near the window, ”I’ll take that one. I’ll sleep on the top bunk.”

Li Cuixia and the Old Madam grabbed cloths to wipe Anning’s bed and made the bed, arranging clothes and all.

Anning also found a cloth to wipe the desk. Yang Erchou, having nothing to do, simply went to the hallway to chat with parents from the neighboring dormitory.

The three of them quickly cleaned the dormitory, made the bed, folded and put away clothes in the wardrobe, and Anning organized her belongings before locking the cabinet and saying to the Old Madam and Li Cuixia, ”Let’s have our meal at our school’s cafeteria today. You can have a taste of the cafeteria food.”

That sounded good, and the Old Madam was eager. Li Cuixia also felt refreshed and no longer nauseous; she recovered her spirits and felt especially hungry, ”Alright, let’s go quickly so we don’t miss the good food.”

Anning called Yang Erchou, and the family swiftly made their way to the cafeteria.

After eating in the cafeteria, Anning showed her family around the campus.

Once they had thoroughly enjoyed their walk, Anning escorted Yang Erchou and the others back to the hotel, making plans with the Old Madam to watch the flag-raising ceremony early the next day and visit the Imperial Palace.

Anning had arrived to report early, and with a few days before the official start of classes, she had time to accompany her family in and around the Capital.

Since Yang Erchou’s group rarely visited the Capital, they didn’t plan to leave immediately. They wanted to spend a few days sightseeing, especially the Old Madam, who wished to stay longer to visit more places, so she would have stories to boast about when she returned to Yangjiazhuang.

As for the expenses of staying a few extra days, the Old Madam was unconcerned about that.

In the Old Madam’s mind, Yang Erchou was running a carpentry factory and had certainly earned a good deal over the years. Besides, since Anning had been accepted into Imperial University, there was no need to worry about money in the future. She mainly wanted to enjoy life, without bothering about how money was made.

The Old Madam had an open mind; whatever Yang Erchou bought for her on the way, she would eat. In the Capital, whatever Anning suggested to eat or wherever she suggested going, she would oblige. She wouldn’t urge the younger generation to be too frugal. She was old and wanted to make the most of her time to enjoy while she could still walk and travel. It wouldn’t do any good to be a dampener to herself and alienate her kin, would it?

She refused to be that kind of grumpy old person.
