The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

After arriving at Yang Erchou’s house, Anning and An Zhen helped Ge San Ni inside.

Li Cuixia and Yang Junni, the three sisters, quickly tidied up the east room for Ge San Ni to stay in.

It was summer now, so it was easy to clean up. They first cleaned the room for her to settle down, and planned to install heating after the fall.

Seeing that everyone was busy, Yang Erchou quickly went to the kitchen to cook.

The Old Madam couldn’t eat greasy food yet, so Yang Erchou made a few light dishes. As he was cooking, he also told Yang Anzhen to quickly ride a bike to buy some braised dishes and some buns and flatbread.

Once the room was ready, Anning helped the Old Madam to the east room to lie down.

She asked the Old Madam, ”Grandma, are you hot? Do you want me to turn on the fan for you?”

The Old Madam waved her hand, ”No need, I’m old, but I can handle the heat.”

Anning looked around, grabbed a thin blanket, and covered the Old Madam with it: ”Then you rest for a while, and I’ll bring your meal in when it’s ready.”

The Old Madam smiled, ”Don’t worry about me. Go and do what you need to do.”

Anning quietly left the room.

In the main room, Li Cuixia was serving sunflower seeds and peanuts, pouring tea, and chatting with the three sisters-in-law.

The recent incident had made the three Yang sisters quite upset with Wang Shushu.

Yang Junni, being the eldest of the three sisters, spoke up first, ”If Wang Shushu wants to borrow money, nobody should lend it to her. She’s spoiled, walking around like she’s an Empress every day, thinking it’s something special just because she had two sons. Does she think she’s a hero of the Yangs? Pfft, look at how she’s raised her kids, just like her, none of them turned out well.”

Yang Baoni was a bit more honest: ”Earlier, our sister-in-law came to my house asking to borrow money, saying it was to find a bride for Fugui.”

Yang Lingni’s eyes twinkled: ”Who knows if Fugui will actually get married? She still wants to borrow money? My guess is, Fugui’s marriage might not work out, and Fuyu’s wife might still cause a big fuss.”

Li Cuixia chuckled, ”Alright, let’s stop talking about her. I’ll go check if the meal is ready. After dinner, you can all rest here at home. Since our mother just moved in, she might not be used to many things. How about staying here for a few days to keep her company?”

Yang Junni waved her hand, ”No, I still have a lot of things to do at home.”

Yang Baoni thought for a moment, ”Maybe I can stay with our mother for a few days.”

Yang Lingni smiled knowingly, ”My eldest has to take the high school entrance exam. I need to stay home to cook for him, so I can’t leave.”

They eventually agreed that Yang Baoni would stay to take care of the Old Madam for a few days.

After lunch, Yang Junni and Yang Lingni left.

Seeing that the Old Madam was fine, Yang Anzhen also rode her bike home.

In the afternoon, Anning mentioned she needed to go to school to collect her exam admission ticket and take graduation photos.

Yang Erchou gave Anning US$ 10 for her to buy some food.

Anning went to school on her bike.

In the following days, life at home was quite peaceful.

The Old Madam settled in without much fuss and, as she mentioned, after resting for two days, began helping with house chores and cooking for Anning.

The Old Madam was quite a good cook. Her food was tastier than what Li Cuixia cooked.

She kept saying Anning was studying hard and needed good nourishment, continually asking Yang Erchou to make delicious dishes like fatty chicken and duck every day.

By the time Anning’s college entrance exams came around, Anning was fine, but the Old Madam was glowing with health from all the supplements.

Soon, it was the day before the exams.

On this day, neither Yang Erchou nor Li Cuixia went out to work.

They both stayed home to accompany Anning.

Yang Anzhen also specifically came over after work.

The weather was hot, so Yang Erchou went out to buy several watermelons. By noon, he had bought a few ice creams for Anning, but the Old Madam scolded him for it.

The Old Madam took the ice creams and put them into a bowl, pointing at Yang Erchou’s nose while scolding him, ”What are you doing? Ice cream and watermelon? Are you afraid your daughter will do too well on the exam tomorrow? Hot, so what? Even if it’s hot, she can’t eat such cold things. What if she has a stomachache tomorrow?”

Scared, Yang Erchou quickly hid the watermelons too, ”We won’t eat them, won’t eat them. We’ll throw the ice creams away.”

Li Cuixia came out of the kitchen with a pot, ”Our mother worried about Anning struggling with the heat. She cooked white fungus and lotus seed porridge early this morning, saying it would be better than any ice cream in calming her down.”

”Mother thought it through.”

Yang Erchou smiled as he helped the Old Madam to sit down, ”That’s why they say having an elder at home is like having a treasure.”

Anning came over to help serve the meal, first serving the Old Madam a bowl, ”Grandma, my dad’s head can get a bit muddled sometimes. You need to keep an eye on him, or who knows what mistake he might make.”

The Old Madam loved hearing that.

It made her feel she was still useful, not an old has-been.

The Old Madam beamed with joy, ”My granddaughter is the best, the most like me.”

After eating, everyone in the house moved quietly, not daring to make a sound, lest they disturb Anning’s nap.

In the evening, Yang Anzhen came over and brought a bag full of food.

Li Cuixia took the stuff and said to Yang Anzhen, ”Won’t your mother-in-law say something about you bringing all this over? Don’t do this from now on. We don’t lack anything at home. If you keep doing this, your husband might have something to say.”

Yang Anzhen waved it off, ”What’s there to say? I earn my own money. I can spend it as I like, he has no say.”

”He’s nice to you, spoils you, but don’t push it.”

Li Cuixia sighed, ”Alright, hurry in and sit down. We’ll eat in a bit.”

Before they could eat, Fang Jianhua came over on his bike.

Li Cuixia quickly stood up to greet Fang Jianhua, ”Jianhua, have you eaten yet?”

Fang Jianhua took a deep breath, ”Not yet, I worked some overtime today and came straight over after getting off.”

Yang Anzhen got up to serve Fang Jianhua a bowl of rice.

Fang Jianhua sat down, ”Oh, today’s dishes look great. I’m lucky to have a good meal thanks to Ningning.”

”Alright, just eat.”

Yang Anzhen urged Fang Jianhua to hurry up and eat.

Fang Jianhua and Yang Anzhen went to junior high together, and both passed the exams to attend a technical secondary school. While there, Fang Jianhua began courting Yang Anzhen and pursued her for three years. Before graduation, Yang Anzhen finally agreed to be with him. When it came time for job placements after graduation, Fang Family found a way to get them both into the county textile factory. They worked there for two years, which coincided with the textile factory’s allocation of dormitories, so they took the opportunity to marry. Now, the couple enjoys a cozy life in the factory’s allocated housing.

Fang Jianhua smiled sheepishly and raised the bowl for a sip of porridge.

In a private club, Yi Qihang sat on the sofa with a cold expression.

He was accompanied by a few people. With Yi Qihang’s sullen face, none of them dared to speak.

”Well, what’s got Mr. Hang so upset now?”

A woman in a red dress, exuding an alluring presence, swayed over.

She plopped down beside Yi Qihang, ”How about I find you a few girls to entertain you later?”

”Enough.”

Yi Qihang’s expression remained icy, ”No one should bother me today, or don’t blame me for not being courteous.”

He was truly angry today because an actress he promoted was pressuring him to marry her, claiming she’d rather die if he didn’t.

Thinking about it filled Yi Qihang with frustration.

He took out a cigarette, and the woman next to him quickly lit it for him, ”It’s not worth it over a woman.”

Yi Qihang exhaled a smoke ring, ”It’s fine for you all to want money; I’ll give it. If you want a house or car, I can provide. But the title of Mrs. Yi is not negotiable.”

He was reserving the position of Mrs. Yi for the woman he loved most.

Thinking of her, Yi Qihang felt a little better.

He extinguished the cigarette, ”She’s coming soon. In the meantime, I can’t fool around. I need to be good and wait for her to appear.”

With that, Yi Qihang got up and headed out.

Those accompanying him quickly followed.

The woman on the sofa stood up last, hiding her jealousy, smilingly seeing Yi Qihang off.

Yi Qihang got into the car, touching his chest, telling himself that in a few months, his girl would arrive, and his heart would no longer feel so empty.
