The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

When Zhu An Yue landed in the mortal world, she discovered she was standing on a bustling street.

And beside her stood a young, handsome gentleman.

”Miss Zhu.”

The gentleman called out.

Zhu An Yue knew this gentleman was also a Cultivator; they must have been transmitted here together.

”And you are?”

The gentleman smiled. ”My surname is Jie, Jie Dongyang, a Disciple of Tianxing Sect.”

”Jie Dongyang?”

Zhu An Yue was startled.

She now remembered who Jie Dongyang was.

This Jie Dongyang was one of Zhu Anning’s suitors in her previous life. His love for Anning was mad; for her sake, he did many things others could not comprehend. To protect Anning, he killed many people; one could say his hands were stained with blood for her.

Thinking of Jie Dongyang’s madness in the previous life, a chill ran down Zhu An Yue’s spine.

”Y–Young Master Jie.”

Fear filled her heart, and even her voice trembled a little as she spoke.

Jie Dongyang’s smile was exceedingly gentle. Judging from his appearance, he truly was a refined, outstanding gentleman in a troubled world; no one would ever imagine he would later become such an obsessive madman. ”Miss Zhu, let us first find a place to rest for a while.”

”O-okay.”

Zhu An Yue didn’t want to walk together with someone like Jie Dongyang at all.

But she also knew Jie Dongyang’s cultivation was high and he was shrewd; she didn’t dare defy him.

Jie Dongyang walked in front while Zhu An Yue followed behind, and very soon they entered a restaurant.

Jie Dongyang picked a spot in the first-floor hall to sit, and Zhu An Yue sat opposite him.

They had barely sat down when they drew many curious glances.

Zhu An Yue’s face went cold as she glared at the people around them who were openly sizing her up.

Being stared at by a bunch of mortals like this, Zhu An Yue felt stifled and irritable. If her cultivation hadn’t been suppressed and her Spell unusable, she would have killed these lowly mortals long ago.

Zhu An Yue’s bearing was aloof and cool; when she set her face sternly, there was another kind of unspeakable authority about her. With one fierce look, she frightened those people into hastily withdrawing their gazes, not daring to look around anymore.

Jie Dongyang chuckled and called the waiter over to order some dishes.

For the moment, Zhu An Yue couldn’t be bothered with fear and asked him softly, ”Why not go to the second floor? If you didn’t bring any Silver, I have some.”

Jie Dongyang smiled, took out a folding fan, and fanned himself. ”The first-floor hall is a mixed bag; all sorts of people pass through. It’s an excellent place to gather information. If we listen more, we can figure out our current situation.”

Zhu An Yue hummed in assent and lowered her head to take a sip of tea.

The moment the tea entered her mouth, she almost spat it out.

What kind of tea was this? Why did it taste so strange?

She frowned. ”This mortal world really isn’t much to speak of.”

”Though many places in the mortal world fall short of ideal, it has its own charms. Once you’ve stayed longer, Miss Zhu will naturally come to know them.”

Jie Dongyang persuaded Zhu An Yue with a very good temper.

As they waited for the food, Jie Dongyang ate while listening to all the conversations going on in the hall.

Very quickly, he figured out their situation.

He and Zhu An Yue had landed in a Prefecture City within the territory of Great Zhou.

After they finished their meal, Jie Dongyang asked her, ”Miss Zhu, I recall you came with your younger sister? Where is she now? Would you like me to accompany you to look for her?”

Zhu An Yue still had a mouthful of Water she hadn’t swallowed; hearing this question, she nearly choked.

”Cough, cough, I don’t know where she ended up either. You don’t need to accompany me to look for her, Young Master. I—I’ll go by myself. Let’s j-just part ways here.”

Zhu An Yue stood up and hurried off.

Jie Dongyang did not get angry; he rose as well and followed behind her at an unhurried pace.

Zhu An Yue was furious. She thought to herself that Jie Dongyang had clearly set his sights on following her.

”If you have matters to attend to, Young Master, please go ahead. You don’t have to worry about me.”

Zhu An Yue turned her head, forcing a smile as she tried to send him away.

Jie Dongyang shook his head. ”I’m quite free. I might as well escort Miss Zhu for a while.”

Zhu An Yue thought to herself that the excuse of ”escorting her” was false; he really wanted to use her to find Anning.

She thought it over for a while. She had originally not wanted Jie Dongyang to see Anning; after all, he had been so obsessed with her in the previous life, he would surely be the same in this one. But she couldn’t stop him, and she didn’t dare to either.

Since that was the case, she might as well let him follow her openly. She didn’t know where Anning was anyway. If he trailed her for a few days with no hope in sight, perhaps he would give up.

Just as Zhu An Yue was trying to shake Jie Dongyang off, Anning’s home welcomed its first batch of visitors.

That day, Anning had just come down the mountain to buy some things. She had just said she was going to cook when she heard a noise at the door.

She hurriedly opened it, and as soon as it swung wide, she saw Ping Dabao leading a few children over.

”Fairy, we came to see if there’s anything we can help with.”

Ping Dabao’s face was flushed red; he didn’t quite dare look Anning straight in the eye.

Anning smiled and invited them inside.

As soon as the children entered, they started looking for work to do: some swept the courtyard for Anning, some helped chop firewood, some put the rice and flour they’d brought into the kitchen, and others fetched Water to wipe down the furniture in the rooms for her.

Anning chuckled and let the children work while she went into the kitchen to cook.

Anning made a pot of chicken soup, blanched some greens, and cooked a big pot of noodles.

When the food was ready, she called the children over to eat.

Ping Dabao hurriedly waved his hands. ”We—we’ve already eaten.”

Though they said they’d eaten, the children were all swallowing their drool; clearly their stomachs were already hungry.

Anning smiled and handed them bowls and chopsticks. ”I’ve only just finished fixing up this house and haven’t had time to warm it up yet. It’s just perfect that you came—I thought you were here to help me warm the place...”

With her putting it that way, Ping Dabao and the others couldn’t refuse anymore. One by one they took bowls and chopsticks, scooped up noodles, then ladled chicken soup over them and added vegetables.

Anning also served herself a bowl of noodles. She didn’t have a table set up for eating, so everyone just squatted in the courtyard, slurping noodles.

After the meal, Ping Dabao helped wash the pots and bowls.

Anning chatted with the other children.

All these children wanted to study with Anning.

Some said they wanted to learn reading and writing, some wanted to learn martial arts, and some said they wanted to learn arithmetic so that in the future they could work in the city as a teacher in an accounting room or something.

Anning accepted them all without refusing anyone and took all these children under her wing.

Thus, the next day many parents came again, this time to bring things.

Hongliu Village was poor; the villagers couldn’t bring anything fancy—just some eggs, meat, or cloth and such, all within their means.

Anning did not turn them away; she accepted everything they brought and agreed on times to teach the children.

In the days that followed, the children of Hongliu Village came to Anning every day to report in, arriving in the morning and leaving in the evening, learning both letters and martial arts from her.

Very soon, the people of Hongliu Village noticed changes in their children.

Ever since they started studying with Anning, the children had become more self-disciplined and more sensible and filial. Some would finish their chores at home and then take a tree branch to practice writing on the ground; others would get up at dawn to practice martial arts.

Moreover, the villagers discovered that their children were learning exceptionally fast.

Take reading and writing for example: in just a little over half a month, the children already knew several hundred characters and could understand books.

Though the villagers of Hongliu Village were illiterate, they knew that learning to read and write was very difficult. Ping Tiezhu in particular, as the village head, knew all too well how bitter and hard the beginning of literacy was.

In the neighboring Rongshu Village, a child had been sent to a private school to study; after more than half a year, he still hadn’t learned as many characters as Dabao had in half a month.

When he told this to the people in the village, everyone began to discuss it.

The villagers all said it must be that the fairy had used some Immortal Law, otherwise their children couldn’t possibly be learning so fast.
