The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Anning knew why these children called her a fairy.

Anning’s appearance was really deceiving, coupled with her attire and temperament, she looked just like the legendary immortal.

Anning pondered for a moment, then nodded with a smile: ”Stand up, let me ask you, where is this place, and what time is it?”

Upon hearing this, the children further believed Anning was a fairy.

”Fairy, we are in Hongliu Village, but we truly don’t know the time. How about we take you home to ask our elders?”

”Alright.”

Anning extended her hand and suddenly had some food, mostly small pastries, and some jerky: ”Take these to eat.”

The children took the food with joy, and went aside to share it.

They didn’t eat it immediately but instead put it in their pockets to share with their families at home.

Seeing their behavior, Anning felt Hongliu Village was nice; at least, judging from the children’s nature, they were kind and filial, suggesting their elders were also of good character.

Anning followed the older child back to his home.

It was said this child was the son of the village chief of Hongliu Village, his surname was Ping, and his name was Ping Dabao.

Ping Dabao’s home was located in the inner part of the village. His house was also a straw house, but had more rooms than others, with a larger yard.

Ping Dabao led Anning inside, and his mother, Mrs. Zhao, who was cooking in the kitchen, heard the noise and came out, seeing Ping Dabao leading a girl whose beauty was dazzling into the house.

Mrs. Zhao was startled: ”Dabao, this is...”

Ping Dabao hurriedly pulled Mrs. Zhao aside to whisper.

Meanwhile, Anning was observing Ping Dabao’s home.

Ping Dabao’s house had five main rooms, three rooms in each wing, and a large yard, with some vegetables planted in the courtyard, a wooden fence with seven or eight chickens inside, and a large jujube tree, which looked like it was twenty or thirty years old.

Overall, it was a seemingly poor but very clean farmhouse.

After Mrs. Zhao listened to Ping Dabao, she quickly wiped her hands and went over with a smile to talk to Anning: ”Fairy, please have a seat, I’ll boil a pot of tea for you, don’t mind it... I’ll have Dabao call his father back.”

Anning nodded with a smile: ”I’m troubling you.”

”It’s no trouble, no trouble.”

Mrs. Zhao waved her hand.

Ping Dabao got a chair for Anning to sit, and Anning sat down.

Mrs. Zhao hurriedly boiled water for tea, taking out the best tea bowls at home to serve tea to Anning.

Ping Dabao ran to the fields to find his father, Ping Tiezhu.

Anning had almost finished a bowl of tea when Ping Tiezhu and Ping Dabao returned, sweating.

Ping Tiezhu didn’t even wipe his sweat and was about to kneel before Anning.

Anning quickly stood up: ”This is the mortal world, just treat me as a regular mortal woman.”

Ping Tiezhu didn’t kneel, but was somewhat apprehensive inside: ”Fairy... how did you come here?”

Anning smiled: ”My elders sent me out for training, coincidentally the Immortal Channel opened, so I came. I’ve never been to the mortal world, I don’t know where this place is, nor which dynasty it is, or the time, please inform me.”

Ping Tiezhu got a small stool to sit on.

He looked tall and felt awkward sitting on the small stool, quite amusing to see.

”We are in Hongliu Village, under the Great Zhou rule, the Great Zhou has been established for about two hundred years, currently under Emperor Lingxian...”

As the village chief, Ping Tiezhu knew a bit about official matters, unlike ordinary villagers who probably wouldn’t know.

Anning listened and memorized seriously, asking Ping Tiezhu some questions, which he answered cautiously.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Zhao asked Ping Dabao to catch a chicken.

She killed one of the chickens they raised, and steamed a bowl of rice with the best rice they had.

When the chicken was done stewing, Mrs. Zhao served a bowl of rice and a bowl of chicken to Anning: ”Fairy, our home is simple, don’t mind the ordinary food.”

Anning ate a piece of chicken: ”Your cooking skills are quite good.”

Upon hearing Anning’s compliment, Mrs. Zhao couldn’t help smiling, her ruddy face appearing very simple.

Anning didn’t eat the Ping family’s meals for free.

After eating, she gave some jerky and pastries to Mrs. Zhao and said to Ping Tiezhu: ”I can’t return for a while, this place seems nice with its mountains and rivers, I want to build a hut in the mountains. If anything crops up, I might need to trouble you all.”

Ping Tiezhu waved his hand: ”No trouble, no trouble, Fairy can instruct us if any matter arises.”

Anning mused: ”I wouldn’t stay for free, how about this? If anyone in the village wants their children to learn to read or martial arts during my stay, they can come to me. Not as a formal master, just teaching them some basics.”

Ping Tiezhu was overjoyed, and even Mrs. Zhao was delighted.

Mrs. Zhao kicked Ping Dabao: ”Quickly kneel and thank the fairy.”

Ping Dabao, a quick-witted child, knelt down: ”Thank you, Fairy, for teaching us.”

”Get up quickly.”

Anning reached out to help Ping Dabao up.

Ping Dabao stood up and gave Anning a shy smile: ”Thank you, Fairy.”

Anning also smiled: ”Alright, you can invite your friends to study together. I’m going to the mountains to build a house these days, think about what you like, and tell me once the house is finished.”

Ping Tiezhu quickly said: ”Fairy, what kind of house do you want to build? We may not have much, but we have the strength to build a house for you.”

Anning waved her hand: ”No need, I can build it myself, no need to trouble you, plus it’s spring planting season, how can you not farm and build a house for me? Delaying the farming season is not good.”

Anning said so, and Ping Tiezhu did not insist.

Anning didn’t stay long at the Ping family’s home. After asking Ping Tiezhu about the nearest town, she left the house.

Anning then went to the county twenty miles away and took a stroll, found a bookstore, bought some books, and brought them back to the mountains.

Anning bought mostly books about the mortal world’s history or travel essays.

She brought them to the mountains, set the books aside, and began building a house.

The Immortal Channel could suppress other cultivators’ cultivation, but it didn’t affect Anning.

Anning, even through the Immortal Channel, brought her cultivation to the mortal world.

If she wanted to build a house, it couldn’t be simpler.

Anning used spells to chop some trees, leveled a place, used Earth Magic to build the walls and simultaneously fired tiles, turning trees into beams or rafters.

With spells, building a house was incredibly convenient; Anning built three large tile-roofed houses and one large straw house in just two days.

After construction, she used magic to dry each house, soon they were ready to be lived in.
