The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

”Xinxin, it’s me, open the door.”

Fang Zeyang anxiously stood outside Yu Xin’s home, constantly pressing the doorbell.

Yu Xin put down Anning and got up to open the door.

The door opened, and Fang Zeyang instantly slipped inside, closing the door behind him.

As soon as he entered, he asked Yu Xin, ”Xinxin, why are you breaking up? Haven’t I been good enough to you? Are you breaking up with me over a cat? In your heart, am I not as important as a cat?”

Fang Zeyang’s accusation was so outrageous that Yu Xin found it both infuriating and absurd.

She realized that after so many years together, she never truly saw his true nature; she must have been blind.

”You think it’s just about a cat?”

Yu Xin smirked coldly, ”I broke up with you because of your character. I’ve known you for so many years, yet you keep acting deceitfully. If you had problems with Dingding, didn’t like her, you could have talked to me. We could argue, discuss things, but you tell me you like Dingding, want to be good to me, and secretly take her out and discard her. Fang Zeyang, do you know how shocked and hurt I was when I saw that video?”

Sweat dripped down Fang Zeyang’s forehead.

He didn’t bother wiping it off and shouted with wide eyes, ”I don’t know, all I know is that I like you, I can’t live without you, and I absolutely refuse to break up.”

Fang Zeyang was so agitated that he fiercely grabbed Yu Xin’s shoulders and shouted.

Yu Xin frowned, ”Let go of me.”

”I won’t.”

Fang Zeyang, emboldened by his anger, grabbed Yu Xin and tried to force her into the bedroom, ”Xinxin, I love you, I love you, would you marry me...”

Anning’s eyes changed color with rage as she glared at Fang Zeyang, wishing she could tear him to pieces.

Yu Xin struggled hard, but Fang Zeyang was too strong, she couldn’t break free.

Anning realized Fang Zeyang’s behavior was off, so she quickly jumped from the sofa to Yu Xin’s phone and called the police while Fang Zeyang was fixated on Yu Xin.

Right at that moment, the door to Yu Xin’s home opened suddenly.

Anning spotted a majestic-looking dog standing outside the door.

If it weren’t for the situation, Anning would definitely laugh non-stop for three days and nights.

Xiao Yuan had turned into a dog, which was definitely something Anning could tease about for a long time.

”Meow.”

Anning called out to Xiao Yuan.

Xiao Yuan responded, instantly noticing Fang Zeyang trying to assault Yu Xin, and sprang into action.

”Woof.”

Xiao Yuan barked once and bit Fang Zeyang.

”Ah!”

Fang Zeyang screamed in pain.

His arm hurt sharply, and soon blood began to flow out.

”Where did this dog come from?”

Fang Zeyang couldn’t help but curse, ”Damn dog, get off.”

Yu Xin seized the opportunity to push Fang Zeyang away and hid behind Xiao Yuan.

Anning also ran over to Yu Xin’s embrace, meowing continuously.

Yu Xin petted Anning’s back, ”Dingding, is this your friend?”

Anning nodded in acknowledgment.

Xiao Yuan stood protectively in front of Yu Xin and Anning, the entire dog watchfully staring at Fang Zeyang.

”Unlucky.”

Seeing how things were, Fang Zeyang knew he couldn’t achieve his intention that day, cursed, and tried to leave.

”Woof.”

Xiao Yuan barked, blocking the door to prevent Fang Zeyang from leaving.

Yu Xin was also a bit perplexed by the situation.

She glanced at Anning, ”Dingding, what’s your friend trying to do?”

Anning meowed, pulling Yu Xin to look at the phone.

Yu Xin picked up the phone from the ground and checked it, finding an emergency call had been made.

Then she understood what was going on.

”Dingding, you’re so clever.”

Yu Xin didn’t find it strange at all that a cat could call the police and seemed particularly happy about it.

After a while, the local police arrived, and Yu Xin invited them in and explained the whole situation, emphasizing Fang Zeyang’s intentions to harm her. Without the intervention of a dog, she might have been hurt.

Since Fang Zeyang was bleeding, he needed to go to the hospital for wound dressing and a rabies shot, so the police took him to attend to his injuries first, while another officer took Yu Xin to record her statement.

After Yu Xin and Fang Zeyang left, Anning and Xiao Yuan finally had a chance to converse.

But truthfully, there wasn’t much to say—a cat and a dog, what could they talk about?

Both of them squatted on the carpet in Yu Xin’s living room, looking at each other. Eventually, Anning laughed so hard she fell to the ground.

Xiao Yuan helplessly reached out with a paw, petting Anning’s back again and again.

”Stop laughing, what does it look like for a cat to laugh.”

The remark hit Anning hard.

Anning rolled her eyes at Xiao Yuan, ”Why can’t a cat laugh?”

Humor glinted in Xiao Yuan’s eyes, ”Alright, you can laugh.”

Anning curled up on the carpet, softly asking Xiao Yuan about his situation and if his original self had any wishes.

Xiao Yuan shook his head with a chuckle, ”No real wishes; that silly dog only remembers food and knows nothing else.”

Anning chuckled again, ”Dingding wants to protect Yu Xin, to ensure her lifetime of peace and joy.”

”Then let’s protect her together.”

Xiao Yuan lay down beside Anning, ”Dangdang’s owner often isn’t home, so I have a lot of free time.”

”That’s great.”

Anning rather envied Xiao Yuan, ”I can’t do that, Yu Xin has to come home every day.”

Then Anning brought up the topic of making money, ”I’ve had An Xin working on making money. You should set up an account yourself; once I’ve earned some money, I’ll send some to you. With money, we can buy whatever we want instead of being stuck eating cat and dog food all the time.”

This was indeed a significant matter, and Xiao Yuan readily agreed, ”Alright.”

After a while, Xiao Yuan asked Anning, ”We can’t remain cats and dogs forever, can we?”

Anning replied glumly, ”What else can we do? We can’t become spirits.”

”Do you think we could find another identity?”

Xiao Yuan proposed to Anning, ”Cats and dogs have short lifespans; we can’t live for very long. When Dingding and Dangdang’s lifespans end, could we perhaps find another identity by entering a body of someone who is brain dead or has just passed away?”

”We’ll see when the time comes.”

Anning waved her paw, ”Maybe by the time a cat or dog’s life ends, we’ll be able to leave this place.”

That’s true.

Xiao Yuan stayed with Anning at Yu Xin’s home, and when Yu Xin returned, she had many delicious treats with her, bought especially to thank Xiao Yuan.

Yu Xin gave some meat and bones for Xiao Yuan to eat and some dried fish for Anning.

She watched joyfully as the cat and dog ate, ”Dingding, I really thank you and your friend. Without you, what would I have done?”

Anning kept her head down, eating without acknowledging Yu Xin.

Yu Xin simply sat on the floor next to Anning, ”Dingding, I will be even better to you from now on. Oh, our Dingding is so amazing, you even know how to call the police. You saved my life.”

Anning looked up and meowed, pointing at the dried fish.

Yu Xin hurriedly nodded, ”I know, I know, I’ll buy you more dried fish in the future.”
