The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

The Family Head Zhu understood what Xiao Qing meant.

Xiao Qing was using his marriage agreement to exchange for Spirit Stones.

Although somewhat angry at Xiao Qing’s shamelessness, the Family Head Zhu still agreed.

This was also the only way to dissolve the marriage agreement between An Yue and Xiao Qing without tarnishing the Zhu Family’s reputation.

”Alright.”

The Family Head Zhu agreed, smiling: ”Nephew, get up quickly. You child, if you wish to borrow Spirit Stones, I won’t deny you, so there’s no need to say such things... Since you sincerely want to break the engagement, as an elder, I won’t stand in your way. I will have someone bring the birth information and tokens over shortly, so you can exchange them early and care for Ayuan with peace of mind.”

Xiao Qing felt a deep sorrow.

However, he didn’t hate the Family Head Zhu too much.

After all, since his parents passed away, the Xiao Family had relentlessly oppressed him and his brother; in the past two years, it was only the Family Head Zhu who occasionally gave them something allowing the brothers to survive.

No matter the Family Head Zhu’s intentions, Xiao Qing felt grateful.

”Uncle Zhu is right, with Ayuan at home I’m also uneasy, I should swap the tokens early to ease my mind.”

Xiao Qing suppressed his heartache and forced a smile to say.

The Family Head Zhu sighed inwardly at Xiao Qing’s resilience, not only could he adapt to circumstances, but he was also perceptive and intelligent. If his Spirit Root hadn’t been crippled, his future accomplishments would have been significant. It’s a pity his Spirit Root is now destroyed and he holds no authority in the Xiao Family, essentially making him a broken person, otherwise he wouldn’t have considered dissolving the engagement.

The Family Head Zhu exchanged a few words with Xiao Qing before instructing the servant outside: ”Go ask Lady to bring over the token from the Xiao Family sent back then.”

The servant responded and left.

The Family Head Zhu kept a smiling face, conversing with Xiao Qing while awaiting the token to be delivered so the marriage certificate could be destroyed.

Who could have known that things would go wrong at this moment?

A voice came from outside: ”Father, Father, I want to come in.”

It must have been An Yue stopped by the servants outside the study.

The Family Head Zhu frowned: ”Let the young lady in.”

Zhu An Yue pushed the door open, entering alone.

Her face bore traces of tears, indicating she had just cried; her expression was still somewhat anxious.

When she saw Xiao Qing, she felt a moment of relief.

”Father, I don’t want the engagement dissolved, you can’t cancel the marriage for me, I want to marry Brother Xiao, I...”

”Nonsense.”

The Family Head Zhu furiously slapped the table and stood up: ”Marriage is dictated by parental command and matchmaker’s words, there’s no place for you to decide, hurry and leave.”

Zhu An Yue stubbornly refused, crying as she knelt before the Family Head Zhu: ”Father, I just don’t want the engagement dissolved, I’ve grown up with Brother Xiao, since childhood I knew I was to be his wife. I’m already prepared to marry him, you can’t do this...”

With each word, she pulled a short sword made of ice from her sleeve and pressed it against her throat: ”Father, if you insist on the annulment, then forgive this unfilial daughter.”

”You, what are you doing, put it down now.”

The Family Head Zhu was startled, and wanted to go over and snatch the short sword from her hand, but Zhu An Yue was determined, she applied a bit of force, cutting a wound into her pale, delicate neck, and blood started flowing down.

Xiao Qing stood by, shocked.

He hadn’t expected An Yue to be so fierce, and have such deep affection for him. Over the past two years, Xiao Qing tasted the world’s indifference, and now seeing a girl treat him this way, he was indescribably moved.

However, he had to harden his heart to reject An Yue: ”An Yue, I... put down the sword, it’s me who wants to end the engagement, not Uncle Zhu... my Spirit Root is crippled, I’m destined for a life like this, I don’t want to drag you down, nor bear to have you suffer with me. Let’s call off this engagement, may you live well, and I wish you’ll marry a Ru Yi gentleman, living a lifetime of peace and happiness.”

Saying such words, Xiao Qing’s heart was undeniably bitter.

Those were his true sentiments.

Before he was unwilling about the engagement cancellation, but now he sincerely wanted what’s best for An Yue.

”Brother Xiao.” An Yue looked up at Xiao Qing, tears covering her face: ”Growing up, you said you’d marry me, promising to treat me well forever, have you forgotten those words over just a few years?”

She let the tears fall: ”Even if you forget, I won’t, after all, this life, I’ll never break the engagement with you, living I’m Xiao Qing’s person, dying I’m Xiao Qing’s ghost.”

”Ayue, what are you doing?”

A piercing cry came, surprising the three in the study as they realized Mrs. Zhu had arrived.

Mrs. Zhu had been pleased upon hearing the Family Head Zhu’s request to send the Xiao Family’s tokens over.

Mrs. Zhu knew the reason.

It’s simply to break off the engagement with Xiao Family.

She’d long anticipated this day; her daughter was too outstanding to marry Xiao Qing, who she deemed a ruined man. Her daughter deserved to marry the most talented young man in Sifang City, Xiao Qing, from a broken home, with a wasted Spirit Root, couldn’t measure up.

Anxiously wanting to break the engagement, Mrs. Zhu hurried with the marriage certificate and tokens to the study.

But upon entering, she saw An Yue kneeling with a short sword pressed to her neck, already wounded, with blood dripping to the floor.

Mrs. Zhu was truly pained and feared An Yue would take a tragic step, resulting in her shrill issue.

”Mother, put the marriage certificate and tokens back, I don’t want the engagement annulled.”

An Yue saw Mrs. Zhu, frantically shaking her head, causing the sword to dangerously press closer to her neck making Mrs. Zhu’s hand tremble: ”Alright, alright, you decide, mother will put them back, we...”

Xiao Qing watched not knowing what to do.

He didn’t want the engagement with An Yue dissolved either, growing up together, their bond was strong, he also liked An Yue, naturally not wanting to end it.

But he also knew, he couldn’t marry An Yue.

Given his current state, how could he take a wife, that would be harmful.

Moreover, even if he wanted to wed, he couldn’t afford it.

The Family Head Zhu looked darkly at An Yue: ”Put away your sword, if you continue causing trouble, I’ll kill Xiao Qing myself.”

This was the Family Head Zhu threatening An Yue.

Yet An Yue dared not defy.

She miserably put away her short sword.

The Family Head Zhu instructed Mrs. Zhu to watch An Yue, returned the tokens to Xiao Qing, destroyed the marriage certificate, making the engagement void.

An Yue watched the certificate being destroyed, tears streamed like broken pearls; truly pitiable.

Xiao Qing dared not look at An Yue, unable to give her anything, why add needless distress?

Having received the Spirit Stones, Xiao Qing rushed back home with them and the tokens.

He had been out for a while, worrying about Ayuan’s state at home, needing to quickly return to care for his brother.

An Yue cried a little longer before being persuaded back to her room by Mrs. Zhu.

Once in her room, a magic cleaned the tear stains from her face.

She lacked any signs of sorrow, sitting down with a smile at her lips.

”Previously, I was accused of disdaining the poor and favoring the rich, this time, I refuse to bear a bad reputation, and definitely mustn’t offend Xiao Qing.”

An Yue clenched her fists, thinking of Xiao Qing, a hint of fear lingered in her eyes.

Despite appearing entirely unmarred, clearly a pampered young lady, thinking of Xiao Qing, she felt pained and terribly frightened.

Xiao Qing, An Yue recalled, was truly ruthless.

She knew, before long, Xiao Qing would repair his Spirit Root, obtain a powerful Cultivation Technique, thereafter, his cultivation would advance tremendously, soon dominating Sifang City, he’d go on to explore various continents, acquiring skills, establishing his own force.

As his strength grew, he remembered the Zhu Family’s humiliation.

He returned with many skilled individuals, and within days, annihilated the Zhu Family.
