The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

”You, you.”

Mrs. Xu was trembling all over with anger at Luo Anhui’s words.

She had not expected the usually gentle Luo Anhui to say such things; it was so unlike her: ”Can’t have a son and you think you’re justified? You wretch, you...”

”Why is the doctor still not here?”

Luo Anhui ignored Mrs. Xu and frowned at the maid beside her.

Just as she asked, an old woman came rushing: ”Miss, the doctor we called was stopped at the gate, and they’re not letting him in no matter what.”

Luo Anhui’s face instantly turned pale.

”Fine, fine! I give you face and you turn shameless. If you don’t want me to live, then no one will have it good.”

With a cold laugh, Luo Anhui had several old women holding her three daughters while a servant cleared the way, heading straight for the Xu Family’s gate.

Mrs. Xu hurriedly instructed someone to stop her.

After all, this was the Xu Family’s domain, full of Xu Family servants. Several strong house servants were about to block Luo Anhui when Anning, unable to bear it any longer, flicked her fingers, sending out several streams of energy that somehow caused the servants to fall to the ground.

With Anning helping clear the way, Luo Anhui smoothly led her daughters out of the Xu Family gate.

The maid and old woman who had been sent to fetch the doctor were holding onto him, arguing with the Xu Family people.

Seeing this, Luo Anhui promptly instructed the doctor to treat Ru Yi.

As the doctor attended to Ru Yi, Luo Anhui truly let go of all fear. Thinking of those unruly village women Anning had shown her, she disheveled her hair and began to wail: ”Neighbors, come and see the cold-hearted, shameless dogs of the Xu Family. They’re driving me to death, won’t let us live...”

It was nearing noon, and the neighbors around the Xu Family were at home. Many were officials or wealthy merchants, so some small vendors set up stands to make money, and peddlers went to backdoors to sell rouge and such. Thus, the street was quite crowded.

Seeing Grandma Xu with disheveled hair crying and cursing, people gathered around.

Doors of several houses opened, with some servants sneaking out to watch the Xu Family drama. Others, who didn’t come out, simply climbed ladders to watch over the walls.

”What are you doing, you disgraceful thing, get back here immediately.”

Seeing Luo Anhui cursing on the street, Mrs. Xu was so enraged she nearly fainted.

Luo Anhui ignored her, crying and cursing: ”I went back to my parents’ house briefly, the Madam promised to take good care of my children, but when I returned, the eldest was so sick with no servants to attend, no doctor called, and the second and third were like beggars. When I tried to punish the lazy servants, the Madam stopped me. Only then did I realize in her heart, her own granddaughters were less important than a few servants. As a Grandma, I am less dignified than servants. What is the point of living? You might as well strangle us four with a rope.”

As she cried, Ru Yao and Ru Qian wailed along too.

The three of them clinging together crying, coupled with their pitiful state, truly drew sympathy.

Many began to discuss, saying how heartless the Xu Family was, treating their granddaughters harshly, and look at the state they’ve driven the children into.

Mrs. Xu felt like tearing Luo Anhui apart hearing this.

”Who’s to blame for this?”

Mrs. Xu, too enraged to care about propriety, cursed with hands on her hips: ”Isn’t it because you can’t have a son? You want our Xu Family to have no descendants? I suggested taking a concubine for my son, and you wouldn’t agree, you jealous creature, you...”

Upon hearing this, many changed their tune.

Some even advised Luo Anhui: ”Grandma Xu, it’s your fault. Since you can’t have a son, why don’t you allow your husband to take a concubine, you...”

Luo Anhui, eyebrows raised with anger: ”Am I to blame? Why don’t you blame your son for not being capable? Humph, blame me for not bearing a son? Why not blame your son? Whether it’s a boy or girl is all because of the man. Xu Jiamao has an affair and doesn’t want me to bear a son; I haven’t used a surrogate, it’s a miracle I could conceive.”

Luo Anhui truly let loose, shaking out her handkerchief: ”I’d like to ask, who plants gourds expecting eggplants? All you aunties and mothers, judge this, everyone who farms knows what seed grows what, the fact I can bear three daughters shows there’s nothing wrong with me, my soil is fertile. If the soil is fine, then it’s definitely the seed that’s the issue. We women are the soil; men are the seed. You all tell me, who plants millet expecting wheat and blames the soil, anyone who farms knows there’s no such reason.”

Women in the crowd realized this made sense.

Yeah, she’s right, having children requires both men and women; women are like the soil, men plant the seed, what grows depends on what seed men plant. If a woman bears daughters, it means the man planted the seed for daughters. If he gave son seeds, they’d all be sons.

Luo Anhui loudly continued: ”Once seeds are sown, they don’t change halfway. I’ve had three daughters; I haven’t asked the Xu Family for justice. That dog-raising Xu Jiamao, why won’t he let me have a son? Because he has an affair, manipulates intentionally. He promised not to take concubines when courting me, no concubines, but just a few years, he turned unfeeling.”

Luo Anhui looked at Mrs. Xu, hatred in her eyes.

She head-butted Mrs. Xu in the stomach: ”You old witch, you raised such a bastard, yet you blame me with snide comments, why don’t you look at what kind of jerk your son is. Oh, heavens, I can’t live, just kill me already, save me from constant grievances, save my daughters from your torment, I die, my girls die, so they aren’t sold off by a stepmother.”

Ru Yao, being older, understood Anhui’s words and cried even harder at the mention of death.

She clung desperately to Anhui, ”Mom, I don’t want you to die, mom, take me away, I don’t want to stay with Dad anymore, he hits me, he even lets my cousin beat me.”

Upon hearing that Lan Susu dared hit her daughter, Anhui stopped crying, turned back, and clawed at Lan Susu: ”I’ll beat you to death, you shameless little slut, you’re a disgrace, my daughter is so young and you dare lay hands on her? As a guest in the Xu Family, have I ever wronged you? As soon as I leave, you vent on my daughter. Don’t think I don’t know your intentions, you want us dead so you can marry Xu Jiamao, that dog.”

”Granny’s lost it, quickly pull her back.”

Seeing Anhui saying more and more outrageous things, Mrs. Xu called people to stop her.

But none could get near Anhui, falling or running into each other for some inexplicable reason. Seeing this, Anhui realized someone was secretly aiding her, giving her more courage.

”You Xu Family are a den of tricksters, none good. You saw my parental family was wealthy, coveted my dowry to marry me; you made such sweet promises when proposing. Once I married, you turned heartless, spending my dowry, yet treating me poorly. Outwardly you pretend to disdain wealth, yet when it comes to money, you’re all ruthless, what now, I can’t speak of it? Spending a daughter-in-law’s dowry, you think you’re justified? You take pride in it?”

The nearby neighbors and vendors found the situation increasingly riveting.

Who would’ve thought the Xu Family, seemingly refined and superior, were actually this kind of people.

That Xu Jiamao, always so disdainful, now his face completely exposed by his wife’s words.
