Not Being a Trainer This Time

Chapter 388: Chapter 244: The King’s Promise (4k)_2

At that time, under His rule, the Galar Region was so prosperous, with bountiful harvests and flourishing flowers.

The humans and Pokemon living on this land regarded Him as King, and He, in turn, treated these beings as His own people.

Humans and Pokemon adored their King, built shrines for Him, and offered tributes, while as King, He tried His best to bring abundance to His people.

Thinking of this, Calyrex felt a pang in His heart, unwilling to believe that His people had already forgotten Him.

Calyrex turned to Naoki, ”My faithful! I have a request for you!”

Naoki could feel the sadness of Calyrex and nodded, ”Please tell me.”

Calyrex cast His gaze toward the human village below, ”I want to ask you to go there and inquire for me if they still remember Me.”

”As expected, Calyrex is very concerned about this...” Naoki thought to himself.

He responded, agreeing to Calyrex’s request.

”Thank you very much,” Calyrex said to him, ”I will wait for you here.”

Naoki nodded silently, then rode on Koraidon and flew down to Freezington Village.

On the way, Koraidon frowned, somewhat puzzled, and asked, ”Ah gah si...” (He seems very sad...)

Naoki could somewhat understand Calyrex’s feelings and nodded, saying:

”Calyrex is likely saddened, right? It’s like you and me, living together always, then being separated due to some circumstances, and when we met again, you found I didn’t remember you...”

Before finishing his words, Koraidon hastily said, ”Ah gah si!” (No separation!)

Naoki was slightly taken aback and then smiled, patting its head, ”I know we won’t separate. I was just giving an example. Think about it, wouldn’t you feel very sad?”

Koraidon thought carefully, then drooped its head, ”Ah gah si...” (Very sad...)

But then, it earnestly said, ”Ah gah si!” (I will never forget Naoki!)

”I will never forget you either.” Naoki gently patted Koraidon’s head and continued, ”Compare Calyrex’s people to me, and Calyrex to you, doesn’t this make it easier to understand?”

Koraidon’s thoughts returned to the matter at hand, and after some consideration, it nodded, ”Ah gah si!” (I understand! Calyrex will come home with us!)

Naoki thought Koraidon hoped that the forgotten Calyrex would return to live with them on the ranch, ”It depends on Calyrex’s own will.”

At this moment, Koraidon landed in the midst of Freezington Village.

Naoki focused his gaze on the villagers strolling around and posed as an out-of-town tourist, inquiring about Calyrex.

The first villager, an older man, was full of confusion, ”Calyrex? What is that?”

Naoki: ”...”

The second, an elderly woman, after some memory searching, said, ”I seem to remember a story my grandma told me as a child. It was said that if children didn’t eat well, the King would take away their bodies and souls, and they’d never return home.”

Naoki: ”That’s something a Ghost Type Pokemon would do, right?”

The third, a white-haired old man with glasses, said, ”Calyrex? Of course, I know! The village relies on it to attract tourists! That way, the village inns and shops can make a good profit!”

”What? How do I know this? Because I’m the village chief! I’ve heard the legends of Calyrex since I was a child, and my family has storybooks recording these tales!”

Naoki: ”...”

He returned to Calyrex with these responses.

After hearing Naoki’s recount, Calyrex’s face showed a clear sadness.

He didn’t immediately speak but stood in the snow, overlooking His kingdom, and closed His eyes, letting out a sigh.

After a long while, Calyrex opened His eyes and regained His previously majestic demeanor.

”It seems they no longer remember My existence. Humans have long forgotten the bonds we forged...”

Naoki didn’t know how to comfort, so he said, as if soothing his own Pokemon, ”The village chief remembers you.”

Calyrex heard the comforting tone in his words and shook His head, indicating He was fine:

”No worries, why would I lament over this? I am the King of Bountiful Harvests! I won’t be shallow enough to rely on humans!”

”I can no longer depend on human faith to restore My strength. If only My beloved horses were with Me, perhaps things might be better.”

With that, Calyrex looked at Naoki.

Naoki thought to himself, ”Here it comes!”

Calyrex continued, ”My once graceful steed, a four-legged Pokemon, whose statue stands in the village with Me riding it, long ago, they were partners who roamed the mountains and fields together with Me, but since My strength waned and we parted ways, I have no idea where they are.”

”I wish to ask you again, if you could help Me find My two beloved horses, I will grant you a wish, whatever it may be, as long as it’s within My power, I will fulfill it for you,” Calyrex earnestly promised.

Naoki had anticipated that Calyrex would say this.
