Not Being a Trainer This Time

Chapter 73: Chapter 60: Dragonite Finds the Key

Just as Naoki was deep in thought, Dragonite returned from delivering the milk.

It eagerly took off the small red pouch it carried, then flew in front of Naoki, its eyes bright: ”Roar!”

Naoki smiled helplessly and said, ”Alright, alright, I’ll take you there now.”

The creature that had broken into the Chicken House didn’t seem to have any malicious intent at the moment.

And its size wasn’t even bigger than a chicken, so Naoki wasn’t worried it would harm the hens. He decided to put this matter aside for now and focus on training Dragonite.

Dragonite’s body was slippery, making it difficult to ride on rainy days, and besides, it was trying to master its moves, which made it inconvenient for carrying people.

Therefore, Naoki chose to ride Koraidon to ascend into the air.

He put on a raincoat and, sitting on Koraidon, nodded to Dragonite beside him, which then flapped its dragon wings and flew upward into the sky filled with rain.

Naoki and Koraidon followed closely.

The sky above was shrouded in dark clouds, inconspicuous lightning and thunder brewing within, which would explode on the heavens when reaching their peak.

In such weather, it would be most fitting to stay inside a small shack and relax.

Yet having promised Dragonite, he must deliver on his word.

Naoki exhaled slowly, and suddenly, a shocking thunderclap made him jump, stirring a bit of fear within him.

The power of nature...

He gripped Koraidon tightly, looking up.

Thinking back, Koraidon shouldn’t attract lightning, right?

If a bolt strikes down, Koraidon, being a Legendary Pokemon, should be fine, but he, a mere human, would be in trouble.

Perhaps sensing Naoki’s fearful feelings, Koraidon turned its head and reassured him with a call: ”Agaessi!”

It sped up, then rushed straight into the thunderclouds, breaking through them to reach above the dark clouds.

Suddenly, the rain stopped.

Naoki looked at the scene below and thanked Koraidon.

Reaching this height for the first time, Naoki felt a bit short of breath, slowly adapting after some time.

At this moment, Dragonite also flew up.

Naoki found a seemingly calm dark cloud and then said to Dragonite:

”Feel the Water Type Energy around you, focus on the process of raindrops forming and falling! Then try to imitate and control it!”

Dragonite listened, half-understanding, and lowered its altitude slightly, staying within the rain, closing its eyes to perceive everything around it.

Naoki instructed Koraidon to descend below, watching Dragonite from a distance.

Time passed by, and the intensity of the rain in the sky showed no signs of abating.

Seeing this, Naoki murmured, ”Looks like this rain is going to last all day...”

Just then, lightning began brewing again among the dark clouds above.

Naoki hadn’t reacted yet when a sudden thunderbolt struck down mercilessly.

Its target happened to be Dragonite below.

The next second, Dragonite was struck by the lightning.

Yellow current instantly spread throughout its body.

”Dragonite!” Naoki shouted.

The downpour continued, as Dragonite gritted its teeth against the pain.

Naoki’s mind raced as he looked at Dragonite wrapped in spark, a bold idea suddenly sparked in his mind.

”Dragonite! Stay calm! Try to control that current and discharge it!” Naoki said in a low voice.

From a distance, Dragonite heard his voice.

It gritted its teeth and exerted itself to control the lightning that had struck it.

”—Roar!”

A long roar echoed as a tremendous energy erupted from Dragonite’s body.

Surrounded by sparks, its body slightly charged, and then, a brilliant spark shot out in front of it.

Watching this scene, Naoki’s eyes flickered slightly.

That move...

Was Thunderbolt!

That’s right! It was the most iconic move of Ash’s Pikachu, Thunderbolt!

Only after discharging all the Electric Type Energy in its body did the area around Dragonite calm down.

It looked quite battered because of being struck by lightning, sustaining some minor injuries, and the surface of its dragon scales, originally pale yellow, turned charcoal black after being struck.

”Multiscale?” Naoki wondered, now realizing the ability of this Dragonite.

Multiscale, which reduces damage when HP is full.

Naoki asked, ”How do you feel?”

”Roar...”

The small dragon wings on Dragonite’s back flapped lightly, and it looked down at the charred scales on its body, showing a look of grievance.

What bad luck, getting struck by lightning so unexpectedly...

It stretched out its chubby claws, feeling sorrowful as it patted its scales.

Suddenly, a small zap of leftover electricity passed through its claws.

”Huh?!”

Dragonite flinched, quickly shaking its claws.

In the next moment, more current emerged, enveloping its fist.

”Roar?”

Dragonite held up its big claw, baffled as it stared at it.

What’s going on? What’s happening? Is this a new move?

Dragonite looked curiously at Naoki beside it, hoping to get an answer from him.

Seeing Dragonite’s fist, Naoki immediately understood, smiling as he said:

”Looks like you’ve turned misfortune into a blessing. Congratulations Dragonite, this is Thunder Punch, you can use it to attack your opponent, and sometimes enemies hit by it will be paralyzed. In short, it’s a very handy move.”

”Roar!”

Hearing this, Dragonite’s eyes immediately lit up, and a silly grin appeared on its battered face.

”So, can you still use that Thunderbolt move just now?” Naoki continued: ”Unleash all the Electric Type Energy in your body for the attack.”

”Roar...”

Dragonite began to try again.

It concentrated, attempting to control the Electric Type Energy in its body to release it.

But it failed.

Compared to before, the Electric Type Energy in Dragonite’s body seemed a bit weak, not enough to support using Thunderbolt.

Dragonite appeared a bit discouraged.

Naoki consoled, ”You’ve done very well. From my observation, it’s just that the energy in your body is still weak and you’re lacking experience. With more practice, you’ll surely be able to do it.”

Hearing this, Dragonite regained its fighting spirit.

Now, it was time to continue mastering Rain Dance!

”Roar!”

Dragonite raised its head, gazing at the sky full of rain with unprecedented seriousness.

After all these days of effort and Naoki’s guidance, it felt like it was gradually grasping the techniques and insights for learning moves.

Moves are inseparable from the energy and control within a Pokemon’s body.

To execute a move, one must first learn how to control the energy of the relevant type.

So, the next step should be like this...

Dragonite closed its eyes again, earnestly feeling the constant falling rain around it.

The rain formed in the sky and dripped from the clouds, nurturing all living things on Earth.

Breeze, rain, air currents, clouds...
