Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 1458: Chapter 9-7: Now

Despite the command center being filled with footsteps, whispers, system electronic sounds, and various noises like those from the central computer cooler, the atmosphere still felt silent.

The staff belonging to the Resk Main Army worked nervously in front of the SkyNet control console.

Now, SkyNet is just an octopus that has lost most of its tentacles. Although the network in Phoenix City is relatively intact, it becomes less effective once it reaches the front line. While command communications are fairly smooth, the intelligence gathering is astonishingly slow. After all, the efficiency of manually relayed intelligence is vastly inferior to that automatically collected by the SkyNet terminal system.

SkyNet is always in a begrudging cycle of repair, destruction, repair again, and destruction. This is a chronic issue in protracted wars. As long as both sides remain equally matched for some period, this situation inevitably arises. Without SkyNet, the war seems to immediately revert to ancient times.

Telephones kept ringing, and the communication channels were bustling. The staff took and input intelligence swiftly, as if photographers without a camera could only sketch the scene before them into a massive oil painting, adding color stroke by stroke on a blank canvas to outline the whole picture.

And now, the outline of the battle situation is that the 33rd Army has already left the Charloks Mountain Range, making a fast march south. Fighter jets have also reached the skies above Frenso Town. It is heard that the bandit army’s First Armored Division has reached Half Cloud Ridge and is engaging with the enemy, while their Second Armored Division seems to still be on the way, but the details are unclear.

This simple sketching based on communication information is truly a torment.

Where has the 33rd Army arrived, and can they reach there within the designated time? What’s the status of the fighter conglomerate’s combat, and what are the losses? Where are the enemy’s following forces, and how many troops do they have? Once the bandit army’s Second Armored Division engages at Half Cloud Ridge, can they halt the enemy’s advance... The oil painting ultimately remains an oil painting; from afar, it may seem like lush greenery and vivid characters with the world seemingly before one’s eyes, but upon closer inspection, it’s just blobs of congealed color with nothing clearly discernable.

Pierre walked back and forth with hands behind his back in front of the console, while Chen Fengxi stood in front of the SkyNet screen, contemplating, tapping the alloy table of the console subconsciously with his fingers. Now, the only thing they could do seemed to be waiting.

From time to time, their eyes would focus on the electronic sand table, on that elegant figure.

Margaret, granddaughter of Hastings, and the well-known successor of the Feiyang Military, at this moment, wore a blue bandit army uniform, holding the position of one of the Deputy Chief of Staffs of the bandit army.

The fact induces surprise while also sparking some expectations for the bandit army, especially for Pierre. If Margaret weren’t standing behind that Fatty, and if she hadn’t been unwaveringly supportive of Fatty without any doubts, Pierre might never agree to this plan even at gunpoint.

The plan was agreed upon and commenced, but what would the outcome be?

”Commander!”

Suddenly, the liaison officer shouted loudly.

”What’s the matter?” Chen Fengxi, the nearest to the liaison officer, strode over.

”A report from the commander of my 1352 Armored Division regiment indicates that the enemy’s forward on the Frenso Town East-West intercity highway, after the bandit army’s engagement, retreated east within fifteen minutes! Preliminary estimates suggest our forces annihilated five enemy armored camps and one self-propelled artillery camp within half an hour, and the bandit army has moved the defense line six kilometers.”

What? Everyone couldn’t believe their ears.

One green Mecha after another, treading on thick fallen leaves, passed through dim and moist jungles, ran down the slope, and raced along the muddy dirt road. Mud and water splashed, and the heavy metal mechanical feet left chaotic footprints in the mire.

”Move faster!” Stewart commanded with a stern face, standing on the open command platform of the Command Mecha.

Amid the splashing sounds, one Mecha after another rushed past, the front segment of the long line had already reached the hill ahead.

”What’s the matter? Didn’t get to confront the Judger, feeling displeased?” Robert stood beside Stewart, smiling as he addressed the burly former commander of the Fierce Tiger Special Group.

Stewart grimaced with frustration: ”I just made a bet with that dwarf Rashid to see who would encounter the Judger first. Not even three minutes passed before the order came. Damn, I can’t stand that dwarf’s smug face.”

”Haha.” Robert shook his head with a chuckle, realizing that after spending so much time with Fatty, both Stewart and Rashid, as well as their soldiers, seemed not to take the war seriously. The indifferent nature of the Leray people was manifested vividly on them.

Turning to look at the running Mecha line, after a long time, Robert sighed: ”A year ago, I never dreamed of commanding a force like this. The most advanced Mecha, the most exemplary Mechanical Warriors, like the destitute Leray Army suddenly became wealthy.”

”General, you’ve forgotten we haven’t upgraded to new Mechas yet.” Stewart laughed, ”After this battle, give me the Twelfth Generation Mecha, and I can fight all the way to Sedon from here!”

”We’ll set aside the capital of the Binart Empire for now,” Robert gently patted Stewart’s shoulder, ”Let’s first consider how to execute General Tian’s operation plan. Remember, we are the vanguard.”
