About performances that had changed the way they looked at acting.

Somewhere between dessert and wine and juice, Hollywood disappeared entirely.

There were no studios. No agents. No opening-weekend numbers. Just two people talking long after the plates had gone cold.

Nicole leaned back against the sofa with her glass in both hands. ”I haven’t had an evening like this in years.”

Marvin glanced toward her. ”Without discussing work?”

”Without pretending.” She looked into her glass before continuing. ”Most dinners in this town feel like negotiations. Everyone wants something. A role. A favor. A meeting. A headline.”

She lifted her eyes. ”You’ve spent three hours here. You haven’t asked me for anything.”

Marvin smiled. ”I was invited for dinner. So I came for dinner.”

Nicole couldn’t help laughing. ”It really is that simple with you, isn’t it?”

”Usually.”

She studied him quietly.

The silence wasn’t uncomfortable. If anything, it felt strangely familiar.

She realized she no longer felt the need to fill every pause with conversation.

The candles had burned low, leaving the room awash in warm amber light. Beyond the windows, the ocean continued its endless conversation with the shore.

”I’m really glad you came tonight,” she said at last. Her voice was so quiet it almost disappeared beneath the sound of the waves.

Marvin met her gaze without looking away. ”So am I.”

Neither of them rushed to fill the silence.

Marvin reached for the crystal decanter resting on the coffee table and poured another glass of deep ruby grape juice for both them. The rich aroma of dark berries and aged oak drifted into the room.

Nicole accepted hers with a grateful smile.

The Cabernet she’d enjoyed over dinner had left a pleasant warmth spreading through her body. Nicole, already delightfully tipsy from it.

She settled deeper into the sofa. Without thinking, she leaned against him.

It happened so naturally that she didn’t even realize she’d closed the distance until her shoulder rested against his, her body half-resting against his.

Marvin simply wrapped his arm around her shoulders, drawing her closer. He could smell the expensive scent of her perfume intermingled with another, far more intoxicating scent—the pheromones and the natural, sweet fragrance of her heated body. He felt the soft press of her breasts against his arm through the thin silk, her heartbeat fluttering rapidly against his side.

The movement left her comfortably tucked beneath it.

Nothing about it felt forced. Nothing about it felt accidental, either.

Nicole let out a quiet laugh. ”I think you’ve spoiled me.”

”Oh?”

”I’ve spent years eating business dinners.” She glanced down at the empty plates still waiting to be cleared. ”They’re usually dreadful. Everyone watches what they say. Everyone watches what everyone else is eating. And nobody actually enjoys themselves.”

She looked back at him. ”Tonight didn’t feel like work.”

”It wasn’t.”

”No.” A soft smile crossed her face. ”It really wasn’t.”

She reached toward the dessert plate, breaking off a soft piece of chocolate cake between her fingers, the rich frosting clinging to her skin.

”You still have to try this,” she said, voice low and warm as she held it out to him.

Marvin accepted the bite, smiling despite himself, his lips brushing her fingertips as he took it. ”You’ve been feeding me all evening.”

”I know,” she whispered, eyes lingering on his mouth. ”I rather like it.” Her cheeks colored faintly. ”Humor me.”

He took the cake, then slowly, deliberately, closed his lips around her finger, tongue gliding along the length of it to lick away every last trace of chocolate. The warm, wet heat of his mouth lingered, sensual and thorough, before he released her with a soft, lingering suck.

She bit the inside of her cheek hard, fighting the soft moan that rose in her throat, a deep blush flooding her face as heat pooled low in her belly.

He took another slow bite of the cake, never looking away from her.

She watched his expression with almost breathless anticipation, voice barely steady. ”Well?”

”I was about to tell you it was terrible.”

Nicole’s eyes widened. ”You wouldn’t.”

”I wouldn’t.” His smile broadened. ”It’s excellent.”

”I knew it.” She laughed, nudging his shoulder lightly. ”You had me worried for a second.”

”I couldn’t resist.”

Her laughter lingered in the room long after the joke had passed.

It struck Marvin that she’d laughed more tonight than she had during the entire production of *The Others*.

She caught him watching her. ”What?”

”You look different.”

”Different how?”

”Lighter.” The smile faded into something gentler.

”I feel lighter.” She lowered her eyes to the glass in her hands. ”For weeks I woke up convinced I’d made the biggest mistake of my career.”

She gave a quiet, self-conscious laugh. ”Every review became another reason not to sleep. I started imagining headlines that hadn’t even been written yet.”

She shook her head. ”Ridiculous, isn’t it?”

”No. It isn’t. You carried the whole film on your shoulders. Anyone would.”

Nicole looked at him. ”You always make things sound simple.”

”They usually are.”

”It’s people who complicate them.”

She smiled. ”You’re impossible.”

”I’ve heard that before.”

Her fingers traced the rim of the crystal glass. ”The tracking numbers Pat showed me today...”

She exhaled slowly. ”I must have looked at them twenty times. They still don’t feel real.”

”They’re real.”

She nodded, almost to herself. ”If this film really does what you think it’s going to do...”

She looked into his eyes again. ”You’ve changed my life.”

Marvin said nothing as he swirled the juice in his glass. He looked at Nicole through the curvature of the glass. The reflection of her stunning, pale figure in the crimson liquid was slightly distorted, painting her in a demonic, blood-red hue that only amplified her lethal charm and allure to him.

She moved a little closer without noticing. Or perhaps she noticed perfectly well. ”I’ve been trying to think of how to thank you.”

”You don’t have to.”

”I know.”

”But I want to.” Her words came softly now. ”Because somewhere along the way this stopped being about the film.”

She smiled, almost embarrassed by her own honesty. ”I started looking forward to seeing you. More than I probably should.”

Marvin turned toward her as he set the glass down. ”Nicole...”

She lifted one finger and rested it gently against his lips.

”Just for a second.” Her eyes searched his face. ”Don’t explain it. I don’t want to think. Not tonight.”

She drew a slow, shaky breath, the last fragile barrier between them thinning with every heartbeat.

Then she closed the remaining distance.

Their lips met in a kiss that began with unmistakable hesitation—soft, careful, almost uncertain. It was the kind of kiss that still left room to stop, as though she were giving herself one final chance to pull away and pretend this had never started.

She didn’t.

The kiss lingered, deepening by degrees. Her delicate, rose-soft lips brushed gently against his at first, tentative and sweet, carrying the fragrance of the red wine she had been drinking. The taste of it flooded his senses, mixed with the warmer, richer flavor of her mouth itself.

Marvin’s hand settled lightly against the curve of her waist, giving her every opportunity to step back. Instead, she moved closer, pressing her body fully against his until the last of the distance between them disappeared—not because either of them rushed it, but because neither of them wanted it to remain.

He took control then. His arms wrapped firmly around her slender waist, pulling her flush against the hard plane of his chest. The kiss turned deeper, hungrier. His tongue traced the seam of her lips, and when she opened for him with a soft, surrendering sound, he claimed her mouth completely. Tongues slid together in a slow, wet, sensual dance; saliva mixed, slick and warm, as the kiss grew messier, more desperate. Every stroke of his tongue sent waves of blinding, euphoric pleasure cascading through her nervous system—his magic pouring into her through the contact, heightening every sensation until her knees weakened and a low, helpless moan vibrated against his lips.

He reached blindly for the glass still trembling in her hand, took it from her without breaking the kiss, and set it safely on the coffee table. His other hand slid up her back, fingers spreading wide as he held her tighter, angling her head so he could kiss her even deeper—slower, wetter, more thoroughly, until she was clinging to him and breathing only what he gave her.

When they finally parted, it was only by a fraction of an inch. Their mouths stayed close, lips still brushing, breaths mingling, a thin glistening strand of shared saliva connecting them for a heartbeat before it broke. Neither of them looked away. The room had fallen quiet again, but this time the silence carried a different weight—thick with want, with the knowledge of what they had just started, and with the certainty that neither of them was eager to stop.

The sofa cushions sighed beneath them as the kiss broke, their lips separating with a wet sound that seemed to echo through the quiet villa. Nicole’s head fell back against the armrest, her chest heaving, the white silk of her dress riding up her thighs to reveal what Marvin had suspected since dinner—she wore nothing underneath. Nothing at all. Had been naked beneath that thin barrier all evening while they talked of books and flea markets and the loneliness of being married to a man who didn’t see her, didn’t touch her, didn’t want her the way she needed to be wanted.

Her lipstick was smeared across her mouth and his, a crimson proof to their hunger, their need, their love, Marvin had finally broken through the walls she had built so carefully around her heart, walls that had kept her safe but kept her starving for months.

The dim lights flickered on the side tables, casting dancing shadows across the room, across her pale skin, across the silk that clung to her curves.

Nicole touched Marvin’s cheeks and made him face her, her blue pupils focused on his eyes before working down to his lips. As her eyes were locked on his lips, Nicole suddenly started breathing heavily, and her desire to kiss him appeared again.

An.....

Nicole pressed her beautiful red lips on his lips while her eyes stared into his eyes but to his surprise two seconds after kissing him Nicole tried to put her tongue in his mouth. Marvin slowly opened his mouth to give way for her tongue to enter his mouth. Realizing this, Nicole didn’t waste her time and immediately put her tongue into his mouth.

As soon as her tongue was inside his mouth, her tongue immediately explored his mouth before looking for his tongue. Marvin, who let her dominate the kiss, decided to play with her breasts.

”Ummm?”

Still, even though he was squeezing her breasts, she didn’t stop kissing him.

Their mouths stayed locked for long, hungry minutes before Marvin finally pulled back.

Nicole’s head fell back against the armrest, chest rising and falling in quick, shallow breaths. Her tongue slipped out to gather the lingering wetness from her chin and swollen lips, the simple motion slow and dazed. After only two kisses she already felt undone, drifting in that rare, intoxicating sweetness that left her soft and lost.

Nicole was shocked by her own actions. She thought that she wanted to stop what they were doing, but after seeing his eyes, she knew that wasn’t really going to. Marvin began squeezing her breasts gently. Realizing this, she let go, and her body suddenly became too hot.

While still breathing heavily, her eyes locked on his face before finally she lowered her sight to his hands which was squeezing her breasts gently. Nicole still did nothing and let him do as he wanted. However, the longer she saw his hands squeezing her breasts, the faster her body was controlled by lust.

Her breathing that had almost returned to normal suddenly became faster again, and the lust within her body now could be seen in her eyes. Using her right hand, Nicole, who was already filled with lust, rubbed his dick through his trousers.

Marvin stopped what he was doing and looked at Nicole’s hands for a few seconds before he continued playing with her breasts again. But, this time, not only did he squeeze her breasts, but he pinched her nipples too.

”Ahhhh?”

When he was pinching her nipples, Nicole stopped rubbing his cock and let out a soft moan. Since her miscarriage, Nicole had never been in a relationship with a man again because she wanted to focus on rebuilding her life and career, protecting her heart from further damage.
