Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Yu Yue brought a cup of warm water and placed it on the table.

Looking at the clean cup in front of him, Ding Hui was stunned for a moment. He slowly reached out, cupping it in his hands, until he felt the steady warmth transmitting from the cup. This thin man’s last line of defense was completely broken down.

This iron-willed man, who defended a border destined to receive no reinforcements, watched his comrades fall one by one without shedding a tear. He did not cry when what he once protected and cherished betrayed him. Even when he was locked in a cage, his limbs broken and his teeth pulled, he did not cry.

But now, because of a simple greeting and a cup of warm water, he was sobbing uncontrollably, his half-tongue moving inside his mouth, body curling in on itself, clutching the cup as if he were a weeping mountain.

Su Huan quietly watched him, sensing his sorrow, neither interrupting nor showing sympathy.

That was the deepest mockery of his beliefs.

Everyone silently waited, those who were absent at the meeting grew increasingly curious about Ding Hui.

When the sobbing subsided, Ding Hui drank the tear-streaked warm water, placed the cup on the table, and carefully wrote two words with a pen.

”Thank you.”

”I am Su Huan, the leader of the Armed Train. You can also call me the conductor, a Donghuang person.”

Su Huan extended his hand.

Ding Hui looked at Su Huan’s serious expression, extended his hand and shook it firmly, making guttural sounds.

Then he wrote on paper again, ”Donghuang soldier, Ding Hui, you can ask me any questions.”

Su Huan sat on the sofa, seeing the words before Ding Hui could hand over the paper, and asked, ”What kind of medicine do you need and how much? Make a list.”

Without any hesitation, Ding Hui wrote on the paper the obscure words he had memorized countless times in his heart, each name and quantity clearly stated.

As soon as he stopped writing, Hu Shuo stepped forward respectfully and took the paper, glancing over it with relief, ”They’re all common drugs, there’s plenty on the train.”

Ding Hui’s eyes showed excitement, and he wrote, ”How can I exchange for these medicines?”

Hu Shuo simply gave a smile.

”Then go ahead and prepare,” Su Huan waved his hand, ”I never make losing deals.”

Ding Hui was anxious inside, wanting to write down his bargaining chips, but fell into confusion just before putting pen to paper.

What else did he have to exchange?

Guns and supplies had all been taken.

He was left only with a decaying, broken body and insignificant perseverance deeply buried in his heart, but was it worth it?

Could it fetch so much medicine?

Even he himself had been saved by the other party...

But thinking of those comrades still waiting for him to return, Ding Hui could only grit his teeth and offer himself up.

”I have superpowers, can still pick up a gun. Give me the medicine, I’ll pledge my life to you...”

Before he could finish writing, Su Huan asked.

”Who is the enemy?”

Ding Hui was stunned for a moment, listing the four nations including Chongying, then his pen hovered over the paper for a long time, not moving. His eyes churned with overwhelming hatred and pain, those humiliating and painful memories tormenting his nerves, anger causing his body to tremble slightly.

But Su Huan had no patience, directly grabbing the pencil imprinted in his hand, adding two names after the four countries, Wei Dong, Longyan.

Casually saying, ”Open the map.”

The projection fell on the table, and Su Huan glanced at the location of the boundary monument Ding Hui defended, beckoning a dozen officers to gather around.

Watching the conductor’s finger start from the boundary marker, extending inward all the way west to the floating land of East City Association, covering the entire Four Countries Peninsula in a circle.

He said blandly, ”Remembered it?”

He Jie frowned grimly, nodding emphatically.

Then Su Huan folded the paper with the enemies’ names twice, and tossed it to He Jie, ”Don’t let me down.”

He Jie grinned sinisterly, ”Understood, I’ll make sure to take special care of those bastards.”

Ding Hui was somewhat confused, what did this mean, could it be that he didn’t have to pay the price?

Just as he was puzzled, Su Huan had already picked up another piece of paper, smiling as he read the words on it, ”Your life is mine from now on.”

After speaking, he carefully placed this piece of paper into his journal right in front of him.

”Alright, one last question, do you know where the military went?”

A trace of forlornness and despair appeared on Ding Hui’s face. His head hung low as he quickly wrote, but without looking, Su Huan already knew the general answer. The information submitted before had confirmed this point. For some unknown reasons, Ding Hui and the others had been abandoned.

Just like they had.

Su Huan didn’t ask anymore, sharing with everyone about his brief trip and that the train was left in He Jie’s command, then adjourned the meeting.

”All officers above lieutenant rank, come to the war room for a meeting later,” He Jie shouted.

When passing by Ding Hui, he gave him a heavy pat on the shoulder, ”Come by later, I’ll give you something.”

Ding Hui was slightly confused, but Mountain Goat’s hand was already on his shoulder, laughing, ”Good man.”

Then Giraffe, Qu Hang, Pang Tu...

Every officer who passed by gave Ding Hui a pat on the shoulder.

Their gazes were either admiring or silent, in a moment making him feel as if he had returned to the barracks before the apocalypse.

He Jie quickened his pace, catching up to Director Xu ahead, ”Old Xu, I want to borrow two test subjects from you.”

The latter had already anticipated it, smiling slightly, ”Come by later then, I hurried back just to give them both a shot of adrenaline to wake them up.”

”Don’t let Lin Xia’s hand in classical Western medicine get lost,”

Professor Ma suddenly said.

He Jie realized, indeed, there was a doctor on the train, ”The Fire of Healing” is much more effective than any traditional hemostatic method.
