Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Luo Qianqian only felt a sense of crisis and was about to call the three people to leave together when suddenly everything before her eyes turned white, and she knew nothing more, until she came to and found herself already at the store entrance, even in someone’s arms???

”Who are you?” Luo Qianqian turned around to look at the person, instinctively protecting her chest with her arms, her face full of wariness.

The person before her was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and a black face mask; apart from a pair of eyes, she could see nothing else. The figure was skinny, and the height seemed to be around one meter eighty, likely a male student, Luo Qianqian deduced.

”Want to know? Follow me.” The voice was somewhat hoarse, a male’s. Luo Qianqian glanced inside the store, didn’t follow him, her face full of worry, wanting to enter the store, but he grabbed her wrist: ”It’s best you don’t go in now, your friends are all right.”

Listening to his words, Luo Qianqian stared into his eyes, as if seeking confirmation, and seeing the owner of the eyes nod, she chose to believe him.

Because she couldn’t enter even if she didn’t believe, everything she was currently experiencing was challenging everything she knew. Could someone tell her why she felt like she was on a rollercoaster ride right now? The kind without safety belts, and the key point was... she couldn’t scream out loud.

What the hell is going on!!! Luo Qianqian’s brain was about to explode, she suspected she was still asleep, this had to be a dream...

And then she found herself... at school?

At the lakeside of the school, it was now autumn, and there weren’t many people enjoying the lakeside or moonlight, the view spread out in desolation.

”What the hell is going on? Am I, dreaming?” Struggling to suppress the urge to vomit, Luo Qianqian knelt on the ground, feeling almost insane.

”Your bag.” The person extended a hand toward Luo Qianqian.

Luo Qianqian frowned, she had only managed to grab her bag earlier, not even having the chance to speak. Hesitatingly looking at her bag, could it be that it contained something someone else wanted? Is that why someone wanted to kill her?

You’re overthinking it.

She handed the bag to the person, only to see him deftly pull out the wallet...

The wallet?! ”That card isn’t mine, you can do as you wish with the rest.” Thinking of Jimo Cheng’s extravagant ways, if that card were lost, not even the Luo family could compensate him.

But then she saw the person pull out a matcha green hidden deep within...

Wait, matcha green? Can anyone discern if I’m a hero or a hermaphrodite?

”Are you with that androgynous person? Just take it if you want, it’s something he forgot in my room.” Luo Qianqian shrank her neck, wishing she hadn’t picked it up in the first place.

”Number Ninety-Eight?” The man looked at the number on the card and nodded slightly, then pulled out a card, handing it forward to Luo Qianqian, revealing a light blue card inscribed with J00038.

”So... what exactly are you doing?” At this moment, Luo Qianqian felt very calm.

”I’ve been sent to protect you; you can call me Number Thirty-Eight.” The man said, ”This card,” he flicked the matcha green card in his hand and put away the light blue one, ”symbolizes your identity.”

”I have an ID.” Luo Qianqian interjected without hesitation, jokingly, did she, Luo Qianqian, even need such a thing? And Number Thirty-Eight? Not special at all. If it had been Ninety-Nine or One Hundred, that would have been pretty cool.

The man looked at Luo Qianqian and, speechlessly, rubbed his forehead under his hat, ”Let’s put it this way, your card, the green one, is just a normal Entry Card. The ’J’ stands for evolution, my blue one represents speed; I’m from the Speed Group.”

Luo Qianqian gave the man a look as if he were an idiot: ”Are you about to tell me that this is a Special Ability? Then we’re all chosen by fate or something like that? And then you’ll lure me into joining you before I get injected with some weird vaccine that changes me... no, according to you guys, it should be evolving, evolving into a New Human?”

The man’s gaze turned extremely strange, his eyebrows furrowed tightly, and, face flush with embarrassment, he finally managed to say, ”You have quite an imagination.”

”Huh?” Luo Qianqian looked at the man, then frowned, ”It’s fine whatever you want to say, but could you let me contact my friends first? They must be worried about me.”

The man gestured for her to go ahead, and Luo Qianqian picked up her backpack that had been thrown on the ground, muttering under her breath, ”Doesn’t know how to take care of a girl’s belongings at all, must be forever single!”

Picking up her phone, she sent different messages to Qin Nuan, Cong Rong, and Jimo Cheng, mentioning something only those concerned would know to prove her identity and then telling them she was safe, that she had escaped at a crucial moment, but was tied up with something right now and couldn’t show up, asking the three of them not to worry.

”All done, your turn,” Luo Qianqian said after sending the messages, putting away her phone, and waved her hand impatiently, ”I have classes to attend in the afternoon.”

”Oh...” The man seemed at a loss for what to say, ”Where was I?”

”You were saying you’re New Humans about to get vaccinated.” Luo Qianqian reminded him without hesitation.

The man had a look of exasperation: ”We call this inborn potential, which needs specific circumstances to be stimulated, ’ability.’” The man stressed the words ’inborn’ and ’stimulated’ to remind Luo Qianqian not to add in her own fantasies.

Luo Qianqian, who had been nonchalant, suddenly thought of the specific places, and then remembered the Gambling Stone trip when she inexplicably...

”You guys stole from Grandpa Kong’s shipment?” Luo Qianqian frowned deeply.

”It was a means to an end, and we returned it later, didn’t we?” The man said with a sheepish smile. If it hadn’t been for that, it would have been very difficult to find Luo Qianqian.

Luo Qianqian continued to frown, ”And today’s accident...” You guys wouldn’t have had anything to do with that, would you?

She always felt these people were too scary... Mom, she wanted to go home; she didn’t want to play with these ’J’ folks.

”Would I make such an unnecessary move? Create an accident and then save you?” The man was speechless, not sure what to say.

He had indeed considered these past few days how to tell Luo Qianqian about these things. After all, for a normal person, it would seem rather bewildering, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he were treated like a lunatic.

Luo Qianqian nodded, feeling this was very likely, using it to prove and show off his ability, killing two birds with one stone... just that, ”Will the truck driver’s finances be completely wiped out in compensation?”

The man looked puzzled at Luo Qianqian, and only after a long moment did he realize what she was talking about. He growled lowly in exasperation, ”I didn’t, I haven’t, where would I know about that from?”

Oh, heavens, take this child away, he thought. Why did it feel like communication was impossible?
