Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 715: Chapter 695: The Verbal Battle of the Two Elders

Qin Nuan couldn’t help but stifle a laugh when she saw the big cake in front of Luo Qianqian, knowing full well what Qianqian preferred—it was precisely the flavor of the cake in front of her. Yet, it was obviously more generous in portion than the other two boxes, with the favoritism blatantly evident.

”Hey, isn’t that the cake my Qianqian loves? Not bad, kid,” Old Master Luo said with an understanding chuckle as he eyed the cake.

Jimo Cheng blushed and lowered his head with a shy smile, his eyes still on Luo Qianqian.

Luo Qianqian looked towards Jimo Cheng, her face breaking into a big smile, ”Senior brother is the best.”

”Ah, us old folks... hey, Old Man Luo, don’t you know you should eat less of those high-sugar things?” Old Master Jimo had just started to lament when he saw Old Master Luo calmly picking up a piece of cake and placing it on his plate, which already had a slice of honeydew left over from before.

”I’m healthy,” Old Master Luo stated calmly.

Luo Qianqian raised an eyebrow on the side. Didn’t she remember grandma mentioning that they should eat less greasy and sugary foods?

She sighed softly, but now wasn’t the time to argue with grandfather about it.

Luo Qianqian and Qin Nuan quietly ate their cake while Jimo Cheng sat beside Old Master Jimo, slowly indulging in a sugar-free cake.

Old Master Jimo spoke again, ”I see your belly has grown quite a bit, haven’t you been neglecting exercise?”

”Don’t brag, I exercise every day. Even if I can’t compete with the younger folks, I’m still so much stronger than you,” Old Master Luo retorted, eyeing Old Master Jimo from head to toe.

Old Master Jimo was at a loss for words, his own stone ultimately landing on his own foot? Old Master Jimo felt a bit guilty himself, having become too comfortable with his leisurely lifestyle since he’d been back. Although he’d been vegetarian, he had abandoned any proper exercise routine.

The three of them, Luo Qianqian, secretly sized up the bellies of the two elders and concluded that indeed, Old Master Jimo’s was a bit larger.

No one knew, but how could Luo Qianqian not know that Old Master Luo was someone who exercised every morning, even if he occasionally shirked off to play chess on the sidewalk.

But he exercised daily, that was an undeniable fact. He would come back sweating profusely every morning, an act that couldn’t easily be faked.

”Ah, a literate man met with a soldier, and reason fell on deaf ears,” Old Master Jimo quickly switched angles. You are strong and brute, you are the soldier. I am cultured, at the very least a strategist, which is different from you.

”Go ahead and boast if it pleases you, remember back in the day...” Old Master Luo chuckled.

In an instant, Old Master Jimo’s face turned green. Back in the day? Wasn’t that when he couldn’t win an argument, and that’s how he met Luo Guohui, that stubborn old man? And even became his underling for more than a year? Even though Luo Guohui always treated him like a brother and never made him run errands, who knew that after his injury and retirement, Old Man Luo would climb to where he was today?

Luo Qianqian blinked and watched the two old masters, continuously pursing her lips. Why did it feel like they were just there to outdo each other in bantering, and neither would admit defeat?

”Back in the day, I was handsome.”

”Don’t be shameless, were you ever as handsome as me?”

”Hey, if I weren’t handsome, could I have such a handsome grandson?” Old Man Jimo resolutely patted Jimo Cheng on the shoulder.

Old Master Luo wore a look of pride, ”Not only am I handsome, my grandson is handsome, but I also have a beautiful little granddaughter.”

”I...” Old Man Jimo’s mustache bristled with irritation, but he quickly glanced at Luo Qianqian and then at Jimo Cheng, and heh-hehed with a smile, ”Your granddaughter is beautiful, I admit, which is why she’s my grandson’s wife, eh.”

So how did we get back to this topic?

”Hey, do you believe I can find someone even better for my granddaughter?” Old Master Luo suddenly had another thought and said to Jimo Cheng, ”Little Orange, come stay at grandpa’s house when you’re free, don’t bother with this stinky old man.”

”Little, Little Orange?” Luo Qianqian’s eyes bulged with surprise, why was her well-mannered senior brother suddenly called something so cute? Like a round little child? The main point is that ’little... son’ isn’t that a term reserved for eunuchs?

”Cough cough.” Jimo Cheng’s face was innocent as he put down the small plate in his hand and said, ”Jin Yuee, let me take you to the study to have a look.

”Sure.” Luo Qianqian put down her plate without any hesitation, and Qin Nuan also put hers down, not wanting to listen to the two old men take jabs at each other anymore.

”Hey, your grandson is pretty perceptive,” said Old Master Luo, watching the three people enter the study and raising an eyebrow.

Old Man Jimo had a face full of pride, as if he wanted to lift his face to the sky, ”Of course, who else could his grandfather be?”

However, Old Master Luo’s face was serious, ”What did you say earlier about Qianqian’s talent in Gambling Stone?” He suddenly remembered that the stones Luo Qianqian brought home were all winners, not a single failure, even though they were small pieces, it was still remarkable.

”Jin Nian didn’t tell me either,” sighed Jimo Cheng, looking toward the closed door of the study, ”It was Old Hei and the others who told me, saying that they owe it to Qianqian for not losing too badly on the public plate, and Jin Nian made a tidy profit because of her. They didn’t say how much, and Jin Nian doesn’t seem to want to talk, it looks like he doesn’t want Qianqian to get into that line of work. I’ll ask when Old Hei and the others get back.”

Old Master Luo furrowed his brow, this vague talk, what is he trying to say? But seeing that Old Man Jimo didn’t seem to know much either, he didn’t press further, ”Don’t you mistreat my granddaughter, I don’t want a fine young lady to be staring at stones all day.”

”Hey, what an absurd accusation, as if that’s mistreatment! Others would beg for such an opportunity,” Old Man Jimo rolled his eyes.

”Who cares, just make sure the carving you do for me is nice, I want to place it on my coffee table,” Old Master Luo earnestly requested.

”It’s just a small trinket, who cares?” Old Man Jimo waved it off but then glared, ”Hey, speaking of that, wasn’t the girl supposed to give a gift? Why are you silent now? Don’t I get one?” His face was one of disbelief as he turned over the bag that held the small incense burner.

”Didn’t your grandson go too? What does he need from my granddaughter?” Old Master Luo replied with disdain, ”You really are greedy.”

”When did you see a young man be so thoughtful?” Old Man Jimo sorted through the gifts, finding one nicely wrapped, but the words on it told him it wasn’t for him: For my respected senior brother whom I have never met.

”She even prepared something for someone she’s never met, and I’m an elder, Qianqian really breaks my heart.” Old Man Jimo feigned heartbreak as he slumped on the couch, ”No, we must split it when we meet; what’s yours is mine. My granddaughter is marrying your grandson, what’s there we can’t share?”

Old Master Luo glared, ”You dare! Believe it or not, I’ll smack you to death.”
