Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 708: Chapter 688: Is Lu Simiao Sick?

The next morning, Qin Nuan came to the Luo family residence, dressed and ready, to find Luo Qianqian.

Ever since Qin Liang returned home, she had been forbidden to stay overnight anywhere outside her home and dormitory, including the Luo family’s place.

Luo Qianqian was still lazing in bed, ”Just let me sleep for five more minutes, just five more...” After she finished speaking, she fell back into a deep sleep, showing no signs of wanting to wake up.

Qin Nuan looked at Luo Qianqian’s state and felt somewhat helpless. Was this someone who knew they were home? How could she indulge in lying in bed like this?

That’s right, unlike a hotel, Luo Qianqian could naturally sleep peacefully as the familiar scent of the laundry detergent from her home allowed her to relax.

Qin Nuan sat down at the desk and picked up a magazine, reading it until the sun was high in the sky. Only then did Luo Qianqian sluggishly get up. Seeing the person seated at the desk, she got quite a shock, ”Nuannuan? What are you doing here?”

”I came to wake you up an hour ago,” Qin Nuan closed the magazine, a strange look on her face, ”You hide your private money in a book?”

She revealed a page of the magazine, and a bright one yuan note caught Luo Qianqian’s eye. Luo Qianqian slapped her forehead, ”Ah, I totally forgot, that’s my bookmark. Look at the serial number, it’s my birthday.” She proudly showed off to Qin Nuan.

Qin Nuan glanced at it and was even more speechless, ”We’re going to see Elvis later and then go pick out a birthday gift for auntie?”

”The birthday gift can just be picked out at Grandpa Kong’s place,” Luo Qianqian chuckled, ”Why not use a teacher one can get for free?”

Qin Nuan spread her hands, ”Hurry up and wash up, which one of these is for Elvis?” She pointed at the pile of wrapped gift boxes.

”Just bring all of them. We’ll hand them out later. Is Elvis at home?” Luo Qianqian entered the bathroom, still poking her head out to chat with Qin Nuan.

Qin Nuan nodded, ”I’ve already asked him.”

Luo Qianqian withdrew her head and cheerfully began to get ready, then matched Qin Nuan’s red sweater and black pants by wearing clothes of the same color. She gloated, ”Do you think Fourth Brother will be jealous when he sees us? We’re in matching outfits.”

”Haha, never mind him, I love you the most,” Qin Nuan said as she combed Luo Qianqian’s hair, ”You’ve always had such a wild imagination since you were little, were you born with this natural creativity?”

”...What did you and Luo Yanran talk about yesterday?” Luo Qianqian suddenly felt something was off; how would Qin Nuan know about her childhood?

”Just a small consultation,” Qin Nuan chuckled, before her expression suddenly turned serious, ”Right...”

”What?” Luo Qianqian was startled.

”Your brother, Lu Simiao, he had a high fever a few days ago. When it got serious and we couldn’t contact you, he kept crying and saying you didn’t want him anymore. My second brother stayed by his side for two days until the fever finally broke. It had turned into pneumonia.”

”How could it be so serious?” Luo Qianqian’s brow furrowed immediately. The past few days... She was unreachable, which meant she wasn’t in the country?

”At first, it wasn’t so bad. But then he said he dreamt you were split in half by the wind... Don’t look at me; that’s what he said.” Qin Nuan quickly waved her hands seeing Luo Qianqian’s gaze; it wasn’t her curse or anything like that. No matter what, she would never curse Luo Qianqian.

Luo Qianqian, however, suddenly thought of the strange gust of wind she encountered while walking with Jimo Cheng on the street. Her forehead wrinkled slightly, and she nodded, ”Let’s go see him first. Elvis can wait; it’s not like he can escape anyway.” Since today was a weekend, Lu Simiao should be at home.

Qin Nuan had no objections. After all, Luo Qianqian also prepared a gift for Lu Simiao, and they were going to visit him regardless. She felt it was better to tell Luo Qianqian in advance than to have Luo Qianqian find out later and blame herself for not taking good care of Lu Simiao.

From a certain perspective, she had also kept this matter a secret. She could have emailed Luo Qianqian at that time, but considering the distance, she still didn’t want to worry Luo Qianqian too much.

The two of them grabbed their bags and ran off without having their meal, leaving Old Master Luo drinking tea and glaring with annoyance: ”This child, running around as soon as morning comes, and not even eating!” They never ate at the same time as Luo Qianqian anyway; they would get up early to exercise and walk the dog, and by the time they came back, Luo Qianqian would still be in bed.

They took a taxi and arrived at the entrance of the school, dashed into the neighborhood, passed by Elvis’s front door without entering, and headed straight into another building.

Skilfully taking out her keys, Luo Qianqian opened the door and frowned tightly at the smell of instant noodles that hung in the air of the room.

”Lu Simiao!” Luo Qianqian called out furiously. The money she had left him was not insufficient, so why wasn’t he taking better care of his health every day??

”Sis?” Hearing the voice, Lu Simiao poked his head out from the kitchen. At first, he brightened at the sight of Luo Qianqian but then quickly retreated back to the kitchen with a look of panic as Luo Qianqian heard the clattering of him frantically putting the lid on a pot.

Without any hesitation, she changed her shoes and stormed into the kitchen, only to see Lu Simiao covering the pot. She snorted, ”Cooking something tasty and not even saving a bowl for me? Thinking of keeping it all to yourself?” Right on cue, her stomach grumbled.

Lu Simiao looked a little sheepish, ”Sis, what would you like to eat? I’ll go buy it.”

”I’ll eat whatever you’re eating. Do I look like someone who enjoys things alone?” Luo Qianqian said as if it was the most natural expectation.

Lu Simiao looked embarrassed, ”Sis, there’s not enough for the both of us.”

”Fine, I’ll just have a bite. Later, I’ll take you for a check-up and we’ll get some food,” Luo Qianqian rolled her eyes. ”You should stop eating now anyway, you need to be fasting for the physical.”

Lu Simiao’s face turned pale, Luo Qianqian had indeed found out.

”Oh, right, this is a gift I got for you while I was out.” Lu Simiao’s gift was the only thing, aside from the gifts prepared for girls, that Qin Nuan would approve of—an ice-type, sky-blue peace buckle. It wasn’t large but its color was extremely translucent.

The piece was originally intended for Qin Liang, but since he hadn’t found another piece that felt like a match for Qin Wen, he gave up and chose something else for the two brothers instead.

”Wow...” Lu Simiao took the gift with a look of surprise, while Luo Qianqian nonchalantly served herself some noodles, ”Nuannuan, do you want some?”

”I’ve already eaten, I won’t fight with you for it,” Qin Nuan quickly waved her hand to decline.

Luo Qianqian just shrugged indifferently, not caring about her image, and ate quickly.

Lu Simiao looked at the peace buckle in his hand, hesitated for a long time before finally looking at Luo Qianqian, ”Sis, this must have been expensive, right?”

”One yuan each, I just bought it because it looked nice,” Luo Qianqian rolled her eyes. What’s the matter, you don’t want it because it’s expensive? Kid, this is something your sister bought for you; gifts from elders are not to be declined, get it?

Could you put a little more effort into your lies?

Qin Nuan also rolled her eyes, it clearly wasn’t something that costs just one yuan, it had to be at least five yuan.

Lu Simiao went back to his room and carefully put the peace buckle into a box, saying earnestly, ”No matter the price, this is a gift from my sister.”

”Mhmm, good kid,” Luo Qianqian put down her bowl and grabbed some tissues to wipe her mouth, her expression turning serious, ”But don’t think that’s going to let you get out of a physical examination!”
