Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 625: Chapter 605: Child Turmoil (8)

Jimo Cheng stood at the airport entrance, holding a petite suitcase, his expression plain as he stared intently at his phone. It wasn’t until the phone lit up that a smile curved on his lips, ”I’ve been wanting to see your city.”

Watching a black car flashing its lights, he walked over indifferently, gave the address, then began to close his eyes and rest.

Suddenly, his phone rang again. After the call, Jimo Cheng’s expression turned very cold, ”Is that so? I understand.” After hanging up, his dark eyes stared out the car window, emitting a chilling aura.

Luo Qianqian was clutching her hair with a pained expression on her face. What should she do? Her fiancé had arrived? The affair of her bringing Xu Tianyi home had not yet faded from her mother’s memory, and here was another newcomer. How was she going to explain this?

More importantly, she was injured, and if Jimo Cheng got wind of it, wouldn’t he investigate thoroughly? After all, he was her fiancé... Then she realized, with intentional components involved, should she even continue mixing in?

”He’s arrived?” He Wenyu changed from his earlier drowsiness, ”Heh, I knew there was no way I wouldn’t get to see your fiancé at least once!”

Upon hearing He Wenyu’s words, Elder Zhang and his wife’s faces changed, ”Fiancé?” How old was Luo Qianqian that she already had a fiancé?

Luo Qianqian gave a wry smile and nodded, ”Our relationship is very pure, don’t worry.” Pretending to be relieved, she spread her hands, ”When he comes over, I’ll send him to the hotel, and then I’ll just go home to sleep.”

”I’m coming too.” He Wenyu didn’t hesitate for a moment, not willing to leave Luo Qianqian, who was under the weather, to wander alone. Besides, her curiosity about this ’big brother Chengzi’ had peaked. Luo Qianqian always spoke highly of him, but why was there still a hint of melancholy, almost imperceptible? They had been together for so long, understanding each other perhaps even more than they understood themselves.

”What are you talking about, just bring him home. We have spare rooms anyway,” Grandpa Zhang said authoritatively, beginning to direct, ”Old lady, go boil water for tea. Xiao Yu, tidy things up, don’t be lazy. Qianqian, you better stay put...”

Luo Qianqian pouted; she still had to pick someone up, how could she just ’stay put’?

Seeing the three individuals getting busy, she felt a pang of guilt. It was her issue, yet others were hustling around for her. Struggling, she sat up, ”Then I’ll go wait at the entrance of the complex for now.”

He Wenyu looked at the stuff in her hands, then at Luo Qianqian’s troubled expression. She still had work to handle, but she couldn’t rest assured leaving Luo Qianqian to go out alone.

Old Master Zhang sighed, ”Leave it to me; be careful, and call us if anything happens.”

He Wenyu readily agreed, then carefully helped Luo Qianqian put on her coat, covering her ghastly injured back.

As Luo Qianqian walked, she didn’t forget to warn, ”Later, don’t you mention anything about my getting injured; although I don’t know how he got here, judging by the time he arrived, he probably doesn’t know yet.”

”Yes, yes, yes, can we not talk so seriously? It’s kind of scary. By the way, he isn’t an old man, is he?” He Wenyu grimaced, ”I’m just starting early romance, whereas you? Straight to fiancé.”

”...So? You want one too?” Luo Qianqian wore a look of helplessness. She had resigned herself to this engagement, without objection or rejection, though there was still some reluctance in her heart.

”No, no.” Standing at the entrance of the residential area, watching the occasional car pass by, Luo Qianqian moved her shoulders and then sharply inhaled a chill breath.

”I hope I won’t be needed to do anything later,” Luo Qianqian said, looking at He Wenyu with a hint of helplessness in her eyes, ”Don’t mess this up for me, he’s very important to the Luo family.”

He Wenyu was momentarily stunned, a trace of sadness crossing her eyes. She nodded; she knew Luo Qianqian’s life wasn’t as glamorous as it appeared.

Then she turned to the road, then with a face of surprise, tugged at Luo Qianqian, ”Qianqian, don’t tell me it’s that car.”

A car was slowly approaching. What made He Wenyu notice it was merely its slow speed. She couldn’t distinguish what kind of car it was, and from such a distance, how could she recognize it clearly?

Luo Qianqian stared for a long time, ”I think it should be, if my phone... Okay, yes.” Seeing the phone light up, Luo Qianqian then confirmed that the person sitting in the car had to be Jimo Cheng.

”Senior Brother, I’m at the entrance of the residential area,” Luo Qianqian said after she answered the phone.

True enough, the car stopped at the entrance of the residential area. Jimo Cheng opened the door, glanced at the young girl standing next to Luo Qianqian, and raised an eyebrow; he nearly instantly matched the name in his mind with the person in front of him, He Wenyu.

But he first greeted Luo Qianqian, ”Jin Yue.”

Seeing that the car showed no signs of leaving, Luo Qianqian smiled and said, ”Senior Brother, my mentor has invited us to stay at his home today, if you don’t mind...”

Jimo Cheng was startled for a moment, turned to say something to the driver, then took his suitcase and stood opposite Luo Qianqian. ”Then I’ll impose.” The car drove off without any hesitation.

Luo Qianqian watched He Wenyu staring fixedly at Jimo Cheng’s face, a smirk formed, and she pulled on her hand, ”Xiao Yu, this is my Senior Brother, Jimo Cheng.” Then to Jimo Cheng, ”Senior Brother, this is one of my best friends since childhood, my sworn sister, He Wenyu.”

”Hello, I’m Jimo Cheng.” Jimo Cheng smiled at He Wenyu and stretched out his hand.

”Ah, hello, I’m He Wenyu.” He Wenyu clumsily shook his hand, inwardly comparing him to Xu Tianyi since he appeared with Luo Qianqian.

”Let’s go then,” Luo Qianqian maintained her smile. ”The teacher is already waiting at home.”

”All right,” Jimo Cheng said nothing else, only looked at Luo Qianqian and fell in step with her, observing Luo Qianqian walking alongside He Wenyu. His gaze lingered on her back; despite trying to act nonchalant, the rigid, barely moving back said it all.

The suitcase wheels rumbled on the cobblestone path, the high-hung night sky twinkled with bright stars, occasionally two night cats ran through the residence, meowing, every home dimly lit, and the silence where only footsteps and the wind could be heard. Besides the occasional sigh from someone unknown, everything was so peaceful, yet Luo Qianqian always felt like a storm was coming...
