Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 615: Chapter 595: Mom, This Is the Little Monkey

The old lady subconsciously raised her hand to block it, but Luo Qianqian didn’t hesitate at all and went straight for the bracelet with her strike.

The jade bracelet shattered into two pieces and fell onto the ground, breaking into even more fragments.

In front of everyone’s stunned gazes, Luo Qianqian casually wrapped up the broken pieces with a napkin, a lazy smile on her face, ”Something that has been dirtied by others isn’t suitable for Mom anymore, so it might as well be thrown away. But it seems to have some value even when discarded, so I decided to have Stone smash it into smaller pieces later.” Looking at the old lady whose eyes seemed like they could kill her, Luo Qianqian turned away contentedly, ”Don’t covet what isn’t yours. I would rather throw it away than give it to you.”

He Wenyu clapped vigorously, ”Exactly! Giving it to her is the same as tossing it away. It’s better to smash it for a good laugh.”

”Alright, Mom, don’t think too much. My brother and I will always be your children no matter what. No matter whether others recognize it or not, we love you. Your biggest task right now is to safely deliver my little brother or sister.” After making a shocking move, Luo Qianqian gently and cutely took An Zilan by the hand, ”I’m about to become an older sister, so I have to be strong enough to be unprovoked. Otherwise, what if it’s a little sister?”

An Zilan could only smile bitterly, not knowing what to say but nodding. A warm current flowed through her heart; her little cotton-padded jacket had grown up.

Watching An Zilan being taken into the operating room with a smile, the trace of a smile vanished from Luo Qianqian’s face as she turned with a cold look towards Lin Xu, ”Uncle Lin, is this how you take care of things? I won’t comment since she’s your elder, but you should know that Mom is my closest kin. If Mom suffers the slightest harm, my brother and I will not hesitate to seek recompense a hundred fold, a thousand fold!”

Lin Xu felt helpless, knowing that Luo Qianqian would react this way upon seeing the scene, but he still explained, ”Your mother’s food and drink have always been handled by me; I wouldn’t let anyone else interfere. I was negligent about the bracelet incident. How about this, uncle will compensate you, okay?”

”Compensate?” Luo Qianqian spread out the napkin, her lips curving in a mocking arc, ”How about I give you a piece to have it appraised?”

Lin Xu found himself at a loss for words. He understood all too well that the dowry the two children had provided An Zilan was worth an entire city. Trying to appease Luo Qianqian with words now was just making a fool of himself.

”From now on, wherever my mother goes, keep that person away from her. She might get sick from the aggravation even without an illness!” Luo Qianqian clenched her fists tightly, her fingertips turning white, ”My mom will have people to take care of her during her confinement period, she doesn’t need to trouble herself! Of course, if anything labeled with the name Luo Qianqian appears in her hands again, I can’t guarantee if next time it won’t be a chair or something else in my hands.”

”This time it’s uncle’s fault for not thinking things through,” Lin Xu sighed and looked at Luo Qianqian, ”I promise you, the child, be it a boy or a girl, will take your mother’s surname.”

Luo Qianqian lifted her head in surprise.

”I only have one request,” Lin Xu continued.

Luo Qianqian’s brow furrowed slightly, but she suppressed her discontent and nodded.

”During holidays and festivals, your mother still needs to accompany me for visits, otherwise it may seem unfilial,” Lin Xu said earnestly.

Luo Qianqian looked at the tissue, silent for a moment, ”No overnight stays. If she talks too much, just leave. And when there’s a dispute between her and my mother, you have to stand by my mother’s side.” Then, seeing Lin Xu’s face turn sour, Luo Qianqian added, unconcerned, ”Of course, I don’t think my mother is the type to argue with her elders for no reason. After all, my mother is not like me; that’s why she needs my protection.”

As soon as she finished speaking, Lin Xu’s expression turned much better, for he knew all too well what kind of person An Zilan was.

After casting a glance at Luo Qianqian, he walked over to the old lady. After a brief exchange, the old lady, looking agitated as if she wanted to start a fight, then saw Lin Xu pull out his wallet. It was only after receiving the wallet that the old lady, looking back every three steps, walked away.

He Wenyu scoffed, ”Do you believe she’s still coveting your red envelope?”

Luo Qianqian dismissed the concern, ”If she has the guts to take it, let her come. If she dares to lay a hand on Mom, naturally someone will deal with her.” Luo Qianqian had already asked for help, and the internal issues had been resolved.

”You seem so cool.” He Wenyu looked at her friend with admiration, as if she had changed a lot after going to Capital City.

”Really? Then, did you fall for me?” Luo Qianqian laughed heartily.

Lin Xu came back, looking utterly exhausted. Luo Qianqian shook her head, ”You don’t look at all like you’re expecting a child to be born, Uncle Lin. Although I caused this commotion, preempting her is undoubtedly better than letting her make trouble when Mom is in confinement, right? If my words were too harsh, I apologize, but it’s not Mom’s fault. If someone has to be upset, let it be with me.”

”It’s none of your business.” Lin Xu shook his head, ”It’s not just about your mother’s dowry, but when she was going to come over before, we’ve lost things at the house a few times. I always thought I misplaced or misremembered them, I never imagined she was taking them.” Lin Xu sighed, ”I just don’t understand, why does she have to make the difference in treatment so obvious?”

”The younger ones are always spoiled.” Luo Qianqian pulled He Wenyu and looked towards the operating room door, ”It’s rare to find an elder who can be completely fair.”

”By the way, Qianqian, Linlin called saying she’ll come over during the Golden Week. When you have time, give her a call back.” Lin Xu said with a wry smile, shaking his head. He recalled when the pregnancy was first discovered by his side of the family, the old lady kept saying the child was a bastard, refusing to believe that both of them had undergone sterilization and could still get pregnant. In the end, it was An Zilan who had the amniotic fluid drawn for paternity testing that settled the turmoil.

Now, they didn’t talk about that anymore, instead, they called the child damaged goods and told him about a distant cousin in the countryside with no children who wanted to take the baby away.

Clearly, they had nice plans in mind.

If it weren’t for Luo Qianqian returning, he would have had to find a way to protect his wife and child.

But let’s not say that, from the start, he was looking forward to Luo Qianqian’s return.

Luo Qianqian was about to call Grandma’s house with her phone in hand.

”Wow...” A loud cry reached the ears of the three people.

Lin Xu shed tears, Luo Qianqian hugged He Wenyu, and the two girls jumped joyfully in the hospital corridor, their faces filled with delight.

The baby was brought out first; Lin Xu immediately asked the doctor how An Zilan was doing, tears streaming down his face incessantly, with no intention of looking at the baby.

Luo Qianqian and He Wenyu, on the other hand, looked excitedly at the newborn in the nurse’s arms. Then Luo Qianqian just lost it, ”Why is he so ugly? All wrinkled up like a little monkey. Could they have gotten it wrong?”

He Wenyu nodded in agreement, continuously.

”Newborns are all like this, they look better once they open up,” said the nurse with a wry smile, ”It’s a boy.”

In other families, they usually ask first if it’s a boy or a girl, but this family is interesting. The husband asked how the baby’s mother was doing, while the children were busy criticizing the baby for being too ugly...
