Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 619: Chapter 599: Child Commotion (Part 2)

The two dropped their homework, had Huang Yueran watch over Li Menglin, and excused themselves to buy some tasty snacks as they ran out the door. Luo Qianqian directly grabbed her backpack.

”What’s going on?” Seeing Luo Qianqian’s running speed, He Wenyu had to exert all her effort just to keep up before they hailed a taxi at the entrance of the complex.

Clutching her phone, Luo Qianqian sat in the back seat of the taxi, her eyes squinting slightly, ”Someone wants to steal a child!”

Checking the time, it was only a little after eight. Who would dare to make a move at such an early hour, around eight or nine? It was clear they were not professionals. Any professional would know to steal children when the night is deep, and everyone is sound asleep.

He Wenyu was so shocked she almost jumped out of her seat, ”How’s the little monkey doing?”

Luo Qianqian shook her head, ”It hasn’t come to that yet. It was one of the protectors sent earlier by Second Uncle to guard mom who accidentally heard it. We’re now on our way to catch the thief.”

”Your Second Uncle is really...” He Wenyu shrank her neck but seemed to understand why some people needed protection and bodyguards. If you can prevent trouble before it happens, just like what they were doing now.

”I have a feeling,” He Wenyu frowned.

”I have a feeling too,” Luo Qianqian said with narrowed eyes.

”It must be that person from Uncle Lin’s house,” He Wenyu said with seriousness.

”The mean old woman.”

”The stinky old woman.”

Luo Qianqian and He Wenyu spoke in unison.

Then they looked at each other and laughed, then anger emerged in their eyes. Were they going to bump right into the muzzle of the gun and not deal with her because they were saving her for New Year’s?

”Should we get someone to enjoy the show?” He Wenyu asked with a mischievous twinkle in her eye.

Luo Qianqian waved her hands frantically, ”Just forget about it. Don’t alarm my mom. If anything happens, she can’t afford the consequences.”

”Humph, comparing your godmother’s life to that kind of person, you truly are unfilial!” He Wenyu looked disdainful.

Luo Qianqian was speechless. Was watching the troubles of her own godmother really a good thing?

After the taxi arrived, Luo Qianqian paid the fare. As they got out, the driver gave Luo Qianqian and He Wenyu a couple of extra glances as if he were looking at lunatics.

”Could we get arrested by that uncle for calling the police on us?” He Wenyu naturally noticed the overtly direct gaze and pouted, ”Where to now?”

The two stood at the entrance of the maternity hospital’s inpatient department, Luo Qianqian squinting as she lifted her phone, thought for a moment, then put it down again, ”Should we go into ambush, or should we first contact and see if those people have arrived?”

He Wenyu was stumped. How would she know what to do in such a situation?

Luo Qianqian understood clearly that if she hadn’t come back, this matter would likely have been settled and then relayed to Second Uncle before she was told, in order to prevent trouble before it could start, without even letting An Zilan and Lin Xu find out.

But now that she was here, even though it meant taking a risk with An Hao’s safety, it was necessary to make her mother and Uncle Lin aware of this person who repeatedly caused distress to her mother, both emotionally and physically. A person like this lurking around her mother was always a ticking time bomb.

Luo Qianqian thought about it and then picked up her phone to make a call. After the call connected, she only said one sentence before hanging up, ”Lin Jiayou, if you don’t come back right now, your grandmom is going to make off with your little brother!”

After hanging up the phone, Lin Jiayou tried calling several times, only to be hung up on without exception by Luo Qianqian. In the end, Lin Jiayou only sent one message, ”Don’t act rashly, heading to the airport now.”

He knew very well what kind of person his grandmother was, and he was also very clear about the agreement his father and Aunt An had made. Even with his living expenses, his grandmother had said that he was already an adult and could just work and make his own money, right? What use was going to school, and so on.

Therefore, seeing Luo Qianqian’s message, he didn’t hesitate at all and immediately left to take a taxi to the airport.

”What’s the use of calling Brother Jiayou?” He Wenyu was utterly puzzled.

Luo Qianqian sneered, ”If we don’t drive that family to despair, Mom’s life will continue to be tangled and sorrowful. I refuse to let my mother become depressed because of such a bizarre and extreme family. It’s a child’s duty to relieve the worries and resolve the difficulties of their mother, isn’t it?”

”But if that’s the case...” He Wenyu frowned deeply, ”Uncle Lin...”

”Supporting the elderly is a duty and obligation, but there is not a single law, no moral rule that states a big brother has to support an able-bodied, sound-minded lazy younger brother, his wife, and their kid,” Luo Qianqian sneered. ”Sacrificing one’s own happiness for the sake of a younger brother’s family, is that a big brother’s duty? If being a big brother requires such a tragic fate, might as well have killed him when the little brother was still young.”

”Don’t you also want to be a freeloader? Aren’t you afraid that Brother Shufan would have wanted to pinch you to death when you were a kid?” He Wenyu curled her lips, her face serious.

”However, I would enjoy being a freeloader when my brother has the means to let me. Of course, that situation never really existed between us...” After thinking about it, it seemed that when they did have some money together in the past, Brother let her spend as she wished. Later on, when she had more money in hand, she didn’t plan on being a freeloader and continued to diligently do what she should do.

”...because you’ve always been like that,” He Wenyu mercilessly pointed out.

”What are you saying, it’s as if I’m... what’s that...” Luo Qianqian’s words were cut short as her attention shifted to a familiar man loitering at the entrance of the hospital.

”Creepy middle-aged man, do you know him?” He Wenyu curled her lip disdainfully.

Luo Qianqian frowned slightly, ”He looks a bit like Uncle Lin’s brother. He seemed decent the last time I saw him.”

”Huh??? No way... Is he really his brother?” He Wenyu’s face was filled with disbelief.

Luo Qianqian nodded wordlessly, recalling the last time at An Zilan’s wedding where the man wasn’t very noticeable. It was only after seeing him later at the hospital that he became memorable to her.

”Last time there was a hitch at my mom’s wedding, I had the fortune of meeting him. It left a deep impression on me.” Luo Qianqian did not explain much more. After all, at that time, the two of them were still in a cold war, so it was normal for there to be misunderstandings.

”Hmph, that’s for giving me the cold shoulder,” He Wenyu expressed her dissatisfaction openly, for she hadn’t even looked in Luo Qianqian’s direction back then. But now, upon reflection, it seemed childish. How could they have fought over such a silly matter?

”Yes, yes, I won’t dare again,” Luo Qianqian said with narrowed eyes, watching as the man put on his hoodie and entered the hospital. She whispered, ”Let’s go, follow him.”

He Wenyu quickly followed Luo Qianqian’s steps. Luo Qianqian watched the man enter the emergency staircase and her eyes narrowed – dodging the surveillance?

She calmly brought He Wenyu in the elevator to the floor where her mother’s hospital room was located, then quietly stood at the corner waiting.

Even if he evaded the camera inside the elevator, there were still cameras in the corridor. She wanted to see how this man would slip past them.

As it turned out, the man did not disappoint them, taking more than twenty minutes to climb to the ninth floor. The reason was just as she thought...
