The Adventures of an Overpowered Knight in Another World

Chapter 228: Chapter 228- A Strange Proposal

Yesterday Zerina could smell the scent of another woman on him. And after today, who knows what others might smell? As such, he took a bath right after getting out of the bed.

Feeling refreshed, he walked towards his wardrobe and got dressed. As the governor and the son of a duke, he had quite a lot of clothes for selection.

For today, he chose a dark coloured suit with a double breasted jacket. For the shirt, a crisp white formal shirt and a dark tie to match it. On top, he donned a long dark overcoat with decorative studs and underneath, a beige coloured shawl.

To match with his get up, he chose brown leather shoes with a slight shine to them. Dress up complete, the Governor of the Snowpoint City was all ready to start his day.

While Reinhardt could shine in any clothing he wore, on this day, in this garb, he just looked the very definition of perfect. He was exuding such authority and regalness that it was almost suffocating.

After seeing that the two ladies were still soundly sleeping, he left the room. Just as he exited, a faint blush appeared on the faces of Zerina and Karina, who seemed to be pretending to be asleep.

For the Governor of a rapidly growing city, there was never any idle time. As soon as he entered his office, Melissa was waiting for him with piles of work.

Of course, her presence had made it a lot easier. However, he was in the end, the topmost authority here. Without his approval and signature, nothing moved in this city.

Reinhardt glossed through one document after another, giving his approval. As all of them were already vetted by Melissa, he only needed to give them a cursory glance and know about the main subject of the proposal before signing them.

Just as he signed one and moved on to the next, his brows locked together in a frown. The subject of this proposal was quite unique in that it was strange. What’s more, the one to make such a proposal was... Melissa, his secretary.

”What is this?” he questioned the latter.

”A proposal? Why is there something wrong with the details?” She questioned.

”Details or not, but why a brothel?” The proposal that Melissa submitted was about opening a brothel in the city.

”What’s wrong with a brothel? It’s in every flourishing city?”

She was not wrong. However, to open the brothel in a city he was governing was a little... Seeing him hesitate, Melissa smiled.

”Lord Reinhardt, need I remind you that you cannot think like a knight while sitting on that chair?”.

Saying that, she started explaining about the need and her reasoning behind putting that proposal.

”A city is not just stone and steel. It is hunger, hope, and heat. If you wish to govern it, you must understand all three. After years of exploitation, the citizens carry trauma, loneliness, and unrest. You might have given them a new lifestyle and a reason to live. However, what they have lost cannot simply be replaced by a few gold coins”...

”That’s where the brothel comes in. A controlled outlet for emotional and physical tension, reducing street violence, illicit activity, and underground exploitation”.

Her words made sense. However, right now, shouldn’t they focus on other things?

”Do you think the city needs it?”

”Need or not, I think the city is already seeking it. Citizens and Laborers with no families. Nobles with too much coin and too little restraint. Right now, it’s happening in alleys and basements. You can either ignore it or shape it”.

Reinhardt fell into a deep thought. The fact that as a woman, Melissa was the one to bring up such a proposal meant that she had seen something like this happening with her own eyes and knew that something must be done before it was too late.

Seeing his fluctuating face, Melissa smiled ”Lord Reinhardt, I know that people judge such establishments. However, in the end, it is these establishments that even the forgotten are given a name, a coin, and a choice. As it’s Governor, shouldn’t you judge the city by how it treats those within it?”

”Besides, a whore house has a lot of benefits. Not only does it reduce crime, protects the vulnerable. Create jobs. And if managed properly, it can be a source of intelligence. People speak freely when they feel safe. As the new governor of the city, you lack an information network”...

”The brothel will allow you to absorb all information coming and circulating in the city. Her Majesty the Queen has many brothels under her rule in the capital and using the information she gets from her network, she keeps a tight leash on all the nobles”.

Indeed, if one can manage such an establishment where information slips from your mouth whether one wants to or not, one can gain all sorts of information, dirt, and advantage on others.

For the Queen, it meant getting the capital aristocrats in line and do her bidding.

The Snowpoint City was still in its development stage; however, Reinhardt could envision a day when it would become big enough to match the capital city or Lumiose.

Melissa added ”Since it will be under Lord Reinhardt, we don’t have to call it a whore house. We can call it something like House of Accord, where music, conversation, and companionship are offered alongside intimacy”.

Faced with Melissa’s ironclad reasoning, Reinhardt found himself agreeing to almost everything she was saying.

Just to be sure, he used the [Eyes of Divine Clarity]. There was no deception, Melissa was wholeheartedly thinking about the city and how to expand it.

”Fine, we will do as you proposed in this document. Make it official, the place will be called the House of Accord,” Reinhardt declared.

”Thank you, my lord” Melissa gracefully bowed her head in appreciation. As she did so, her large breasts jiggled, providing a great view for him.
