Chapter 401: Chapter 455: Nine-leaf Blood Grass

The grenade exploded, flames rolling tumultuously.

Shrapnel shot out as if they were blades slicing through the sky, turned red-hot by the flames, shooting in all directions.

Since Chen Nan and his group had estimated the distance accurately, the moment the explosion occurred, the eight Cannibal Apes had just rushed near the grenade, one of them even stepping right on it.

As dust flew and broken branches and leaves fluttered about, the eight Cannibal Apes were blasted into the air, some of them even pierced through by shrapnel before they could let out a scream, dying instantly.

Poison Wolf nodded in satisfaction, ”Eight of them, took out four pairs; that’s about right.”

”Damn, stop posing, let’s hurry up and go, don’t you see there are still several more behind us!” Chen Nan said irritably and broke into a run, Poison Wolf quickly followed.

The remaining Cannibal Apes, seemingly frightened by the power of the grenade and wailing over their dead companions, eventually chose to retreat.

After dealing with these troubles, the two of them slightly quickened their pace.

Around six in the morning, having run about forty more miles, daylight had broken, and the morning sun penetrated the forest, warm and very refreshing.

Poison Wolf glanced at Chen Nan, ”Haven’t seen a single soul on this path; could it be that we are the only two left going for the Essence Fruit?”

”Maybe the others have run ahead!”

Chen Nan looked at Poison Wolf, saying, ”Good thing you brought grenades, otherwise being surrounded by those Cannibal Apes would’ve been real trouble.”

Poison Wolf nodded and said, ”Those Cannibal Apes only have speed; they don’t know any Cultivation Method. Their life force is actually quite fragile.”

”Yeah, otherwise we wouldn’t have escaped so easily.”

Chen Nan glanced at him and asked, ”By the way, how many more grenades do you have on you?”

”Do you think I’m an arsenal?” Poison Wolf tossed the grenade in his hand and said, ”A total of four, we threw two just now, now we’ve each got one left in our hands.”

Chen Nan sighed, ”Had I known, I would have brought more.”

”Hopefully, there won’t be any fierce beasts later.”

As Poison Wolf spoke, his expression suddenly turned grave, and he stopped, ”There’s poisonous fog ahead.”

Chen Nan looked at the increasingly thick fog among the trees ahead and frowned, ”It seems the poisonous fog is getting denser as we move forward. But no worries, I have Detoxification Pills on me; one should do the job.”

Poison Wolf shook his head, ”No, before we left, my master warned me that the poisonous fog here is quite strange, ordinary Detoxification Pills won’t work at all. Only by finding the Nine-leaf Blood Grass in this forest and holding it in our mouths can we detoxify.”

”Nine-leaf Blood Grass?”

Chen Nan looked at him perplexed, ”Where do we find that?”

Poison Wolf shrugged helplessly, ”Master didn’t say, and I don’t know either.”

”Then let’s keep going; maybe we’ll come across it on the way. For now, the fog isn’t very thick, and with our Cultivation, we can still withstand it for the time being.”

”Let’s go.”

The two brothers continued on their way.

After walking another ten miles, the poisonous fog became denser.

With their level of Cultivation, they now had to use their Inner Strength to resist, otherwise they couldn’t ward off the invasion of the poison.

Meanwhile, a few hundred meters ahead, the sound of clashing and clanging filled the air, and it was very noisy, as if a large group of people were fighting.

Although only a few hundred meters apart, the dense toxic fog prevented Chen Nan and his companions from seeing the specific situation clearly.

Chen Nan said, ”Let’s go over and take a look, perhaps we can find some clues about the Nine-leaf Blood Grass.”

”Alright!”

The two of them used their Qinggong and in a matter of a few breaths, they arrived at the site of the battle.

It was a vast expanse of Red Mangrove, and at the front, there was a huge cave. Around the mouth of the cave, more than ten martial artists were attacking a giant snake.

These martial artists, the weakest among them, were at Qi Dao Seventh Heaven, one of whom had already reached Qi Dao Ten Layers Heaven, with two at Qi Dao Ninth Layer, and five at Eighth Layer Heaven.

This group of people, when joined together, undoubtedly possessed extremely formidable combat capabilities.

However, even such a strong team was currently losing against this giant snake.

This giant snake had a crown on its head, its whole body was crimson, with yellow, fearsome teeth dripping with corrosive venom. The snake was about ten meters long, a casual flick of its tail could break tree trunks as thick as thighs, and its exact species was unknown.

”Ah...”

A Seventh Realm martial artist couldn’t dodge in time. He was sprayed with venom by the snake, immediately emitting black smoke from his body as his clothes and flesh were rapidly corroded, releasing a foul smell, and he died instantly.

”Snap...”

A crisp sound was heard when another Seventh Realm martial artist was slightly slow in his reaction and was struck by the tail of the giant snake. He immediately spat out a large amount of blood, his body flew dozens of meters away, breaking four or five large trees, and he rolled on the ground, unmoving, unclear if he was dead or unconscious.

”Elder mentor said, guarding next to the Nine-leaf Blood Grass, there’s a fierce beast, could it be this giant snake?” Poison Wolf said.

Chen Nan nodded, ”It should be, this snake’s whole body is blood-red, which should be related to the Nine-leaf Blood Grass.”

”Then let’s go over and help, together we can kill this snake.”

As Poison Wolf spoke and was about to step forward, Chen Nan suddenly grabbed him, saying, ”Why the rush? These people will become enemies sooner or later, let them fight a bit longer, exhaust more energy, and in the end, we’ll reap the profits.”

Poison Wolf was stunned for a moment, then gave a thumbs-up, ”Indeed, that’s a great idea from the leader.”

Chen Nan threw a cigarette to him, ”Let them fight to the death. We’ll smoke a cigarette and rest a bit, gather our strength. There might be others like us, silently watching and waiting for the right moment!”

Poison Wolf scanned the surroundings and nodded, ”That’s very possible.”

After more than ten minutes, the original group of martial artists had more than half fallen, with only the Ten Layers Heaven master, two Ninth Layer martial artists, and one from the Eighth Layer remaining. The rest were either dead or injured, lying on the ground powerless.

As for the blood-red giant snake, it too had sustained some injuries, but with only these four people left on the field, it was unlikely they would be able to kill it.

”I’ll help you!”

Suddenly, a loud shout came, and two Ninth Layer martial artists leaped out from hiding and attacked the giant snake.

With the help of these two vital forces, the power of both sides became almost balanced.

The giant snake kept spitting venom, screaming miserably as its huge body continuously rolled, crushing a swath of trees. Facing the attack of the Six Great Masters, it was also somewhat struggling to cope.

”This snake, probably now holds the strength of a human Taoist Master.” Poison Wolf stared at the blood-red giant snake and mused for a while before speaking.
