King of the Wilderness

Chapter 410: Chapter 234: Silent Night and the Chicken Coop_3

Lin Yu’an and Aliya walked up and placed two high-powered LED portable floodlights at opposite corners of the construction site.

As the switches were flipped, two dazzling beams of light instantly pierced the darkness, illuminating the entire site as bright as daylight, making even the fine ice crystals falling from the sky clearly visible.

The work Aliya accomplished was far more breathtaking than the description heard indoors.

A walk-in single-slope roof chicken coop, its main structure was completely finished. The foundation, supported by concrete piles, perfectly isolated from the ground.

The framework, made of four-by-four lumber, was constructed seamlessly. The blue-green corrugated metal roof had been completely laid, perfectly covering the entire structure, reflecting a metallic sheen under the lights.

The whole layout of the chicken coop is divided into two zones, the left side is approximately eight square meters, the outer walls of which have been nailed with rough-sawn planks with natural bark edges, exuding a rugged texture.

The right side, nearly twenty square meters of activity area, was also enclosed by dense wire mesh on three sides, leaving only the south-facing side with a large opening remaining.

”My God, Aliya...” Lin Yu’an stepped forward and patted the stout pillar with his gloved hand, feeling its solidity, ”You haven’t just built half, you’ve completed the skeleton, skin, and roof, only the internal organs and insulation layer are left.”

”That sounds a bit gross...” Aliya was amused by his analogy, then pointed inside the main house, ”But you’re right, the next step is crucial insulation and sealing, but it’s hard for one person to hold the inner wall panels and fix them at the same time.”

”Now, you have me.”

Lin Yu’an shrugged his shoulders, opened the small wooden door of the main house that was already installed, and walked in first.

Inside, there was an empty frame entirely made of lumber, with cold wind seeping in from the gaps in the external wall planks.

”Emily has already delivered the coffee, it’s in the insulation box at the door.”

Aliya followed him inside, placing a lamp on the ground to shine upwards: ”Foreman, please give your orders~”

Lin Yu’an looked around, his brain racing, and quickly formulated the optimal construction process.

”So our work order is like this: seal all external gaps, fill the insulation layer, install inner wall panels, deal with the south-facing light surface, and finally, perfect the internal facilities.”

”We’ll divide the work: you’re in charge of measuring, cutting lightweight materials, and assisting, I’ll handle cutting heavy materials, filling, and fixing. The goal is to complete the main insulation work before dinner.”

”Understood!”

An architectural project against the harsh cold of the polar night officially commenced.

Lin Yu’an first dealt with the external wall gaps, not using traditional caulk, which is hard to cure in low temperatures.

He took a roll of special construction waterproof tape, which maintained excellent adhesion even at extremely low temperatures.

Holding a scraper, he meticulously sealed each seam between the wooden boards with tape, ensuring no cold air could directly invade the wall.

With the external sealing done, the real core work began.

Lin Yu’an dragged out several large bags of insulation materials - rock wool - from the container warehouse. He placed a portable cutting table firmly on the snow at the chicken coop’s entrance, putting on a dust mask and goggles.

”Aliya, start measuring.”

Aliya drew out a tape measure, moving briskly. She first measured the width between the two main columns on the wall, the tape’s hook fitting precisely on the inside of the lumber.

”Width, fifty-nine point five centimeters,” she called out, her voice crisp.

Lin Yu’an nodded, opened a package of rock wool, pulled out a large thick slab of rock wool, and laid it flat on the cutting table.

With a long saw blade knife specialized for cutting insulation material, he sliced the needed size from the entire piece of rock wool, much like cutting a massive cake, with perfect edges and precise dimensions.

He handed the first cut piece of rock wool to Aliya, who took it, walked into the main house of the coop, aligned the bottom of the rock wool block with the crossbeam below, and pushed it upwards with her hands.

The rock wool block was ”squeezed” into the gaps of the wooden frame one inch at a time in an extremely satisfying manner, fitting seamlessly.

A highly efficient and harmonious production line operation began. Aliya was in charge of measuring and filling inside, while Lin Yu’an passed the cut rock wool blocks in according to her reported measurements.

They started from the walls, filling block by block. Soon, all four walls inside the main house were covered with the thick yellow rock wool layer.

Next was the underside of the single-slope roof. Lin Yu’an stepped onto a sturdy wooden ladder and filled every corner of the ceiling with the rock wool blocks handed to him by Aliya, in the same manner.

Once all the rock wool was filled, Lin Yu’an dragged out several large sheets of plywood from the material pile.

”Now, let’s seal it completely.” ℯ

Lin Yu’an again picked up the tape measure and circular saw to start cutting the inner wall panels. This time, not only did he consider the length and width, but also reserved the position of the ventilation window as specified in the plans.

He handed the first cut piece of plywood to Aliya, who took it, leaned it against the inner wall frame, and held it in place with her body and knees.

Lin Yu’an then walked into the main house, picking up an electric screwdriver already fitted with a Phillips head.

”Thap-thap-thap”

With a series of crisp sounds, black screws were precisely driven into the lumber one by one.

The length of the screws was calculated precisely, just enough to penetrate the plywood and grip firmly into the wooden frame behind.
