Inheritance of Two Trillion

Chapter 2254: Chapter 1710: Ma Weiqian’s Good News

The person calling Bai Xiaosheng so late was Ma Weiqian. After such a long time, there was finally some news from him. Initially, Bai Xiaosheng had half-intimidated, half-bribed this fence-sitter to work for him and handle his affairs.

At that time, Ma Weiqian claimed that his company had a superior who knew about Ambray’s secrets, and what Ambray did under the instruction of Caroline. He said he could arrange for Bai Xiaosheng to meet that person.

Back then, Bai Xiaosheng planned to start with Ambray, then move on to other Caroline Family businesses, following the clues and unraveling the mystery to ultimately figure out how much of Zhenbei Group’s assets the Caroline Family had taken, so he could settle accounts with her.

The reason Bai Xiaosheng preferred to approach from the outside, rather than exercise his headquarters’ supervisory powers to break through from within the group, naturally had its reasons.

Firstly, Caroline had been in charge of Zhenbei Group’s North America division for many years, under Vice Chairman Morgan’s protection, with deep-rooted foundations, making the investigation predictably extremely difficult and likely yielding no results in the end.

Secondly, Bai Xiaosheng was also afraid of alerting his enemies, making them defensive.

Therefore, the line through Ma Weiqian was something Bai Xiaosheng was quite hopeful about.

However, receiving news from Ma Weiqian at this moment happened to coincide with everyone being busiest, prompting Lin Weiwei to lament, ”Why did everything have to hit at once? This is the pace to work us to death.”

Lei Ying shrugged, indicating it was just a coincidence and there was nothing to be done.

Bai Xiaosheng made a gesture for the two to stay quiet, then answered the phone.

In Bai Xiaosheng’s view, the private collaboration with the families behind people like Xiya and Jack needed to remain confidential. Bai Xiaosheng hoped to establish a small business alliance in North America as his secret commercial resource.

Even with formal contracts signed with those families, Bai Xiaosheng would tell them—do not publicize!

Getting those families to give up such a great publicity opportunity was somewhat difficult and would also make them suspicious of why Bai Xiaosheng was doing so.

However, there are always more solutions than problems.

Bai Xiaosheng would tell them he would soon be introducing a major external collaboration for them.

The timing might be very soon.

Bai Xiaosheng would also inform them that, as members of Zhenbei Group’s senior management, such actions were not permitted.

Thus, he hoped they would act low-key and not publicize it.

Believing that interests can always solve interest-related problems, those families would be happy to quietly earn big money.

At this moment, Bai Xiaosheng didn’t want Lin Weiwei or Lei Ying to inadvertently say something that Ma Weiqian could overhear.

This was basic caution.

Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying immediately fell silent.

Bai Xiaosheng was already speaking with Ma Weiqian.

Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying remained quiet, listening intently.

”Really, Mr. Ma has found a suitable meeting opportunity for us. That’s great, I truly appreciate your effort.”

”Oh, so your superior is attending a cocktail party, and you want us to take the opportunity to connect with him? Sure.”

”You’ve already prepared the invitation for the cocktail party? Very thoughtful. I’ll send someone to pick it up tomorrow.”

”The cocktail party is the night after tomorrow, at the location... alright, I’ve noted it.”

”Even though this isn’t a private one-on-one meeting, it’s no problem. Mr. Ma, I still thank you, there’s no need to blame yourself.”

”I promised you, rest assured, I won’t go back on my word; everything will be fulfilled after the cocktail party the day after tomorrow.”

The conversation between Bai Xiaosheng and Ma Weiqian lasted only ten minutes or so, Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying understood most of it.

The reason Bai Xiaosheng repeated key information was so that the two could hear it.

After hanging up, Bai Xiaosheng’s expression was calm, neither happy nor sad.

Lin Weiwei couldn’t help asking, ”Xiaosheng, didn’t Ma Weiqian have any doubts about this matter?”

Bai Xiaosheng looked at her and asked with a smile, ”Doubt what?”

”Why we are so obsessed with finding out about Ambray and the group’s affairs, what’s our aim, are we openly opposing Caroline?” Lin Weiwei couldn’t help but ask, ”Isn’t Ma Weiqian... really afraid of anything?”

The Caroline Family not only holds great power in Ganande but also throughout the state and all of America.

Making money this way for Ma Weiqian feels a bit like living on the edge of a knife.

Ma Weiqian isn’t some hero; he was offered substantial benefits by Bai Xiaosheng, and the circumstances forced him at that time. Is he not scared or regretful afterward?

Would there be any sudden change with this person...

Lin Weiwei worried about this.

”In business, holding leverage over someone doesn’t mean you’ll use it immediately; the real use might be once, someday, who could trace back to the initial leak?” said Lei Ying, ”I think that’s what Ma Weiqian is thinking.”

Bai Xiaosheng smiled at Lin Weiwei, ”Whether Ma Weiqian suspects, or not, what does it matter? Whether he’s afraid or not, whether he regrets or not, what does it matter? What we wanted was a setup, and he’s given us one. Isn’t that wonderful!”

Bai Xiaosheng’s smile was a bit peculiar.

Yet Lin Weiwei still felt puzzled.

”Alright, no need to think about what happens to Ma Weiqian. You two should get busy with our tasks at hand. Tonight before midnight, you’ll be busy. I’ll lend a hand once we’re back at the hotel,” Bai Xiaosheng said.

Lin Weiwei finally pulled her thoughts away from Ma Weiqian’s issue.

”Fortunately, Ma Weiqian mentioned the day after tomorrow, which doesn’t conflict with today’s schedule. Xiaosheng and Jack only have one day tomorrow to finalize signatures, probably fearing a conflict between the two,” Lei Ying said while working.
