Inheritance of Two Trillion

Chapter 2111: Chapter 1610: Bai Xiaosheng’s ”Arabian Nights

The event involving Ambray Company’s exorbitant drug prices, which Cui Chen mentioned, was also found when Bai Xiaosheng asked Red Lotus to search for information.

This issue even sparked intense controversy and protests worldwide at the time.

It’s not just one drug; Ambray Company holds numerous patents for several critical disease medications, and their drug prices are notoriously high, making ordinary people look up in awe.

Moreover, Ambray Company’s global pricing strategy varies significantly, with local and overseas prices differing greatly, sometimes even doubling!

At this moment, when Cui Chen brought up the issue of Ambray’s drug prices being exorbitantly high in Huaxia, Ma Weiqian dismissed it with a laugh, saying, ”Market conditions differ, so naturally, the company’s pricing is also different.”

After a feigned shot, Ma Weiqian said to Cui Chen, ”Rest assured, if you sell your results to our company, we definitely won’t let you suffer a loss. If you don’t want a one-time buyout, we can sign a partial profit-sharing agreement. What do you think?”

As Ma Weiqian said this, he leaned closer to Cui Chen with genuine interest, rubbing his fingers warmly, ”Imagine, no matter where it’s sold for a sky-high price, the more money there is, the more you’ll earn. You’d be sleeping on a mountain of gold and silver! Oh my, what a great deal!”

Ma Weiqian had an enthusiastic attitude.

Cui Chen’s expression darkened slightly.

Cui Xuexue looked up at Ma Weiqian, sneering with a hint of sarcasm, ”So you mean to let my cousin sell his results from Huaxia, and then have them go around and return with a foreign drug’s label at a higher price? Making a profit off our own people’s blood and tears? Mr. Ma, you’re really harsh on your fellow compatriots!”

Cui Xuexue’s tone was obviously unfriendly.

From what Cui Xuexue said and Cui Chen’s expression, it was clear that the two hadn’t been blinded by the sudden access to immense wealth; instead, they felt some level of resistance and disgust.

They had very upright principles.

Bai Xiaosheng suddenly felt a great increase in goodwill towards this highly educated brother and sister pair.

Alongside him, Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying also felt a strong liking for them.

In the face of Cui Xuexue’s sarcasm, Ma Weiqian maintained a smile, raising his eyebrows with a smile towards Cui Xuexue, sitting back slightly before saying, ”Miss Cui, well, I’ve already obtained American citizenship.”

”So I am no longer considered a Huaxia person,” Ma Weiqian shrugged with a smile, ”I don’t accept your accusations.”

Cui Xuexue was taken aback, let out a cold snort.

Ma Weiqian seemed quite proud, ”Citizenship in a free country is great, and if you need it, our company would be happy to help you obtain it!”

”No thanks!” Cui Xuexue crisply declined, ”I’m straightforward; I don’t carry cash when I go out, just like using my phone. And I love eating pancakes and fried dough sticks; can you scan to buy fried dough sticks in America? I also like ordering delivery and shopping online, but in these areas compared to our country, yours is so backward.”

A well-directed string of hidden barbs.

Ma Weiqian found no rebuttal and let out a chuckle.

”Well said, it’s not all good outside,” Lin Weiwei couldn’t help but brighten her eyes and muttered.

That Cui Xuexue quite suited her taste.

Bai Xiaosheng and Lei Ying exchanged glances, smiling slightly.

On the opposite side, not wishing to bicker with a young lady, Ma Weiqian turned to Cui Chen, smiling, ”Dr. Cui, let’s continue our previous conversation. I know you, as a pharmaceutical researcher, carry a benevolent heart, and that’s certainly valuable!”

Ma Weiqian raised his thumb with admiration, ”People like you are rare nowadays, truly rare, and I, Ma, admire you!”

”However, the issue of high pricing isn’t solely the company’s responsibility; the patent rights for drugs last only twenty or thirty years, with some drugs requiring billions in investment just to be developed. We won’t even mention those with even more exaggerated research investments. The manpower, time, and resource costs are all real gold and silver; companies are there to profit, they’re not charities; they need to recoup their costs, they need to make money, can they not price things high?”

Ma Weiqian continued, ”Allowing pharmaceutical companies to profit enables them to invest more in researching the next drug, only then can more diseases be conquered. Otherwise, if the developed drugs are sold at low prices at a loss, and companies keep closing down, no one would be willing to develop new drugs anymore. Would that be satisfying? Moreover, reducing drug prices ties into tariffs, health insurance, and other major governmental issues that we cannot control.”

After finishing his statement, Ma Weiqian noticed Cui Chen’s silence and chuckled, looking at Cui Xuexue, and speaking in a tone as if enlightening a child naive to worldly matters, ”What do you think, Miss Cui?”

Cui Xuexue couldn’t think of a better retort, she snorted coldly, frustrated.

Seeing that he had silenced Cui Xuexue, Ma Weiqian smiled smugly.

”Dr. Cui, your new drug investment wasn’t cheap either. I heard that initially, you couldn’t find investors, so your family funded it. Surely, you can’t let your family bear so much expense for free, would they have no complaints?” Ma Weiqian smiled kindly, cajoling, ”Sell it to us, or we can collaborate. I promise to talk to the higher-ups to ensure in terms of pricing... in global pricing, Huaxia’s entry costs will not be higher, how about that?”

Cui Chen contemplated for a moment, just about to speak when he heard a soft cough.

Immediately, someone spoke up, ”Gentlemen, can I have a word?”

Ma Weiqian was stunned for a moment, then looked up.

Cui Chen, Cui Xuexue, and even Ma Weiqian’s assistant Xu also looked over.

Across from them, two men and a woman, the young man in the middle had a remarkable demeanor, clearly not an ordinary person; on either side of him sat a man and a woman. The man was tall and sturdy, exuding authority, while the woman was extraordinarily beautiful and charming, with an ethereal quality; both had extraordinary presence.
