Inheritance of Two Trillion

Chapter 899: Chapter 899: This Time, The Fairest

Lin Yu, following the agreement, paid Dongzi for the first stage of the investigation.

Originally, Dongzi was hired by Lin Yu at three times the usual price.

This time, Lin Yu, pleased, doubled the payment again.

In this first phase, the amount Dongzi received was equivalent to what he might earn from several smaller cases.

Receiving the check and looking at the figures on it, Dongzi was also very happy, joyfully flicking it with his fingers.

”As long as you uncover more valuable information, money is no issue!” Lin Yu smiled and earnestly said to Dongzi.

To make someone give their utmost, timely and ample compensation is necessary.

This was his principle of action, and it indeed motivated people to give their best effort.

”I will definitely satisfy you!” Dongzi said with a cheerful smile.

Looking at Lin Yu, he thought he really was a good employer.

But what a pity.

Why did I have to meet my idol? Chasing stars isn’t just a privilege for the young!

Dongzi sighed.

Then, he seemed hesitant and said to Lin Yu, ”There’s something, I’m not sure whether to mention.”

”Oh? Go ahead!” Lin Yu looked intrigued.

”While engaging with the target these past two days, I inadvertently overheard those two assistants, a man and a woman. The one surnamed Bai, it seems he brought them here for training. This series of investigations is for them to practice, so they prefer stability over speed.”

Dongzi smiled and said, ”Of course, I didn’t record this, so it can’t be considered collected data. I’m just mentioning it offhand. If you think it’s valuable, listen; if not, forget I mentioned it.”

Lin Yu nodded and smiled, ”Good.”

Lin Yu’s expression seemed calm, but he was contemplating internally.

Despite his excitement earlier upon seeing that torn draft report and even deciding to preemptively send out the final report the day before Bai Xiaosheng and his team, he was still trying to advance as much as possible.

After all, that was just a draft, and it was torn.

There was no indication that Bai Xiaosheng had an unchangeable fixed plan that wouldn’t proceed earlier.

Therefore, Lin Yu would not relax.

But now, with what Dongzi had just mentioned, Lin Yu’s first feeling was that the date might indeed be accurate.

”When Bai Xiaosheng was at Yuquan, those two cases had the same investigation period, and it’s written in the report. In my view, with his capabilities, he doesn’t need that long. And now, with what Bai Xiaosheng knows, he doesn’t need that long either. Combining these two factors... Bai Xiaosheng is indeed using actual cases to train his subordinates!”

Lin Yu was convinced.

In his view, Bai Xiaosheng didn’t yet know he was in Wuqiu, so there was no deliberate defense.

Lin Yu felt a bit of admiration for Bai Xiaosheng, ”He can maintain a steady mind and continue executing his own plans even after I snatch a result from him; he really is remarkable!”

”Moreover, he knows his shortcomings—being new to the role of Affairs Officer, relying on quick wit and unorthodox strategies alone won’t work; he lacks experience. And his assistants are even less experienced!”

”Knowing one’s deficiencies and then advancing, thinking of distant paths ahead!”

”Bai Xiaosheng, I, Lin Yu, truly think now that you are a worthy opponent!”

Dongzi stood up and smiled at Lin Yu and the others.

”I won’t stay much longer, I still have work to continue. I will keep a close watch on their movements, please rest assured on that!”

Lin Yu nodded, very satisfied with Dongzi’s attitude.

”Gao Peng, see him out,” Lin Yu specifically instructed.

Gao Peng walked Dongzi to the door and patted his shoulder as they parted.

”Thanks, brother, you’re a lucky star, saved us a lot of work. I’ll buy you a drink sometime.”

Dongzi smiled but didn’t take it seriously.

After seeing Dongzi off, Gao Peng returned and saw Lin Yu flipping through some documents.

He and Liu Yan didn’t dare to bother him, so they took the documents Lin Yu had put down and began looking through them as well.

Downstairs at the hotel.

At the doorway, Dongzi looked back at the window of the room where Lin Yu and the others were staying, then chuckled lightly.

With the mission accomplished and a commission in hand, his mood was good.

”Next, I still need to deliver information a couple more times; this money is too easy to not take, especially since you started playing unfair first,” Dongzi muttered before turning to leave.

Back to Lin Yu.

About half an hour later, he put down what he was holding.

”It’s decided; we don’t need to rush, let’s just follow the date Bai Xiaosheng set,” Lin Yu told Gao Peng and Liu Yan, ”We’ll use this method as well, I’ll do the deduction, and you guys will conduct the investigation.”

”However, you’ll need to change your reason for appearing and avoid the other assistant’s investigative timings.”

”This time, it’s a truly fair competition!”

Lin Yu’s spirit was high.

Gao Peng and Liu Yan nodded.

Although it was a bit frustrating to hide and dodge around someone else’s assistant, it was better than before when they were working tirelessly day and night.

”But, don’t we also need to bring in a few people? After all, their assistant is always around with a legitimate reason, and if we keep showing up as well, it will inevitably attract attention, and it wouldn’t be good if they find out,” Gao Peng continued, seeing Lin Yu looking at him, he hurriedly added, ”It’s a special case, boss, and we should ensure as much as possible that they do not know about us. Moreover, bringing people over is just for some basic investigation, it won’t break the fair play!”

Lin Yu thought for a moment, then nodded.

”Alright then, you arrange this, and you can coordinate manpower with Teacher’s assistant Zhang Yu,” Lin Yu said.

Gao Peng quickly nodded.

Upon further thought, Lin Yu also felt this was necessary.

The best scenario was to compete without direct confrontation.

Moreover, he genuinely wouldn’t want to confront Bai Xiaosheng directly.

After all, facing off directly with an Affairs Officer who is a benchmark against a New-type Affairs Officer was no trivial matter!

All this time, Lin Yu had been trying to prove that he was stronger than Bai Xiaosheng, but it wasn’t yet time to burn bridges.

Even then, Lin Yu was hesitating whether it was necessary to report to the group after finishing the case!

That would escalate the conflict.

”Let’s just finish the task first. After it’s done, maybe I won’t send it to the affairs department but directly to Bai Xiaosheng! Let him see and know who is stronger. That would be enough.” Lin Yu thought to himself.

He was considering this plan.

In fact, after so many days and having cooled down a bit, Lin Yu occasionally questioned himself.

Being so calm and meticulous, why was he so keen on competing with Bai Xiaosheng?

Maybe we really are arch-enemies, Lin Yu scoffed at himself internally.

In the following days.

Both Bai Xiaosheng’s side and Lin Yu’s side were busy, each methodically conducting their investigations.

Neither side had contact with the other.

During this time, Dongzi ran twice more, bringing more intelligence to Lin Yu’s team and earning a full payment.

However, on the third time, Lin Yu ended the cooperation and additionally paid one more fee.

According to Lin Yu, if Dongzi continued to gather intelligence, it would be unfair to Bai Xiaosheng and his team.

This was something he did not wish for!

Soon, it was the day for Bai Xiaosheng’s side’s plan to be reported.
