Inheritance of Two Trillion

Chapter 894: Chapter 894: Target, Uncertain

Bai Xiaosheng, Lin Weiwei, and Lei Ying arrived in Wuqiu City before noon.

They still chose a hotel with a partnership agreement with the business department and settled in first.

During lunch, Bai Xiaosheng chatted with the two while eating.

”Although there are two problematic companies in Yuquan, there is only one here in Wuqiu, but this is the big fish!” Bai Xiaosheng said to the two seriously.

”This area is closer to the coast with a higher level of economic development. The companies are large in scale; there are at least five groups of the same magnitude locally, each much stronger than Yunfeng Business Management!”

”Of course, there’s a reason for that. There are rumors that Wuqiu will be included in a special economic zone, so these companies are betting on the future.”

”And according to Zhang Kai’s confession, his biggest act of using his position for profit involved a large amount of capital for internal operations. The other three parties he cooperated with were from Yuquan and Wuqiu—among them, the Wuqiu partner contributed sixty percent of the capital!”

”To Zhang Kai, this amount of money was astonishing, but the people on Wuqiu’s side didn’t seem to treat it as a big deal and weren’t overly cautious. What does that tell you?” Bai Xiaosheng paused.

”Does that mean they have abundant funds here?” Lei Ying ventured.

”It means the problem here is severe. Moving large sums of money around as if it’s nothing!” Lin Weiwei said.

Bai Xiaosheng nodded.

”Correct! Casually reallocating huge sums of money indicates that someone in charge of a company here has reached a point where they can do as they please, without any restraint!”

”A certain company?” Lin Weiwei keenly sensed the issue in Bai Xiaosheng’s words.

”You don’t know which company it is?” Lei Ying asked in surprise too.

Originally, it was Lei Ying and Lin Weiwei who ”interrogated” Zhang Kai.

And they were the ones who sent the report.

However, Bai Xiaosheng had read the report in detail and was very interested in a subtle issue mentioned in it about ”forming factions for personal gain.”

That same night, Bai Xiaosheng had another talk with Zhang Kai.

Afterwards, Bai Xiaosheng even provided an additional explanation to the business department, mentioning these issues.

Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying were vaguely aware of this matter, but at the time, they thought it was resolved and didn’t pay much attention.

Now, whether going to Yuquan or coming to Wuqiu, they followed Bai Xiaosheng’s lead.

They did whatever Bai Xiaosheng said, without much thought.

However, now that they were about to start the investigation, Bai Xiaosheng wouldn’t be using such vague descriptions without pointing out the specific name of the company.

”Unfortunately, I don’t know, and even Zhang Kai himself doesn’t know,” Bai Xiaosheng shrugged and said with a smile.

”He doesn’t know either? How is that possible!” Lin Weiwei didn’t believe it.

”That guy, he must not have spilled everything!” Lei Ying said angrily.

It seemed that he felt his methods at the time hadn’t been harsh enough.

”Don’t worry, Zhang Kai really did spill everything. Besides, Lei Ying, you really scared him. When I singled him out for a talk that evening, just mentioning your name nearly made him cry,” Bai Xiaosheng said with a laugh.

”But still, this is too inconceivable! Zhang Kai dared to collaborate with someone without knowing their identity? Besides, how was such a large sum of money transferred?” Lin Weiwei remained incredulous.

Bai Xiaosheng explained, ”Someone surnamed Zhang contacted him on behalf of the other party. Don’t even think about it; the name must be fake. This Mr. Zhang spoke of many things only the person in charge of a subsidiary company would know. That’s how Zhang Kai came to trust their identity. The funds from the third party entered through a third-party channel, which no longer exists now, but it was registered in Wuqiu, and the other party’s company also claimed to be in Wuqiu. That’s all the solid information available. Out of gratitude for the other party’s trust in him, Zhang Kai didn’t ask any further!”

How bizarre indeed!

Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying nodded.

However, they couldn’t help but ask, ”So how do we investigate this?”

Bai Xiaosheng smiled, ”I can handle it!”

”Zhang Kai provided some clues, although they were mere traces, but combined with some news from that time and the financial reports submitted by Wuqiu’s companies to the group during that period, I can make a systematic deduction. We can use the process of elimination to narrow down from five companies to three! That’s the best I can do for now.”

”For the next week, I need you guys to gather some information from these three companies, to assist my continued screening.”

Bai Xiaosheng was confident. With guidance from Red Lotus, finding the problem company shouldn’t be hard.

However, Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying were astonished by his approach, giving thumbs up and exclaiming, ”Impressive!”

”Xiaosheng, you organize it. We’ll split up and be sure to clarify things for you in the shortest time possible!” Lin Weiwei said confidently.

Lei Ying nodded in agreement.

”You’re wrong there, Weiwei,” Bai Xiaosheng laughed.

”First off, I don’t need you guys to be fast! This time, as always, the main goal is training! It’s about training you, as well as myself. We all need to slow down and keep learning and advancing during the investigation. Improving our own skills is what I really want!” Bai Xiaosheng explained.

Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying couldn’t help but nod their heads.

They greatly admired Bai Xiaosheng’s attitude of ”seeking slowness over haste.”

”Secondly, I don’t want you to operate separately; this time, you’ll act together,” Bai Xiaosheng said.

”Why?” Lin Weiwei was puzzled.

Lei Ying was also somewhat perplexed.

Bai Xiaosheng smiled meaningfully, ”It’s just a precautionary measure!”

While the three of them were discussing these matters, in another star-rated hotel in Wuqiu City...

This hotel had no arrangement with the Affairs Department, and staying there required paying out of one’s own pocket.

Lin Yu and the others chose this place.

This was also to prevent any leaks about their whereabouts here.

No sooner had Lin Yu and the others settled in than someone came knocking on their door.

It was an ordinary-looking man who would go unnoticed in a crowd, and there was a simple smile on his face.

”Who are you looking for?” Liu Yan, who answered the door, sized up the man and asked with a frown.

”I-I’m here to discuss a partnership,” the visitor said with a grin, rubbing his hands together.

”Wrong place!” Assuming the man was a scammer, Liu Yan was about to close the door.

Unexpectedly, the man pushed the door firmly, opening it with surprising strength.

A sly smile flickered in the man’s eyes, the previous simple-mindedness vanished.

”What do you want!” Liu Yan instantly tensed up and stepped back as she yelled.

Her shout brought out both Gao Peng and Lin Yu from inside.

”What’s going on?” Gao Peng immediately shouted upon seeing the man’s expression, ”Who are you!”

Lin Yu also looked at the stranger coldly.

”Me? I’m the person you’re looking for, introduced by Zhang Wang,” the man said with a smile, ”My name is Dongzi!”

Zhang Wang? That high-level detective?!

Lin Yu and the others couldn’t help but scrutinize the man. Even though he seemed unremarkable, they knew they couldn’t underestimate him, especially considering Zhang Wang’s high regard for him.

It was said that he had once been part of a foreign legion and was exceptionally capable.

”I am your employer, come on in, let’s talk,” Lin Yu gestured, then led the way to the sofa area.

With a grin, Dongzi followed.

Lin Yu started with the demands. Dongzi just smiled.

”These small things, I’ll handle them perfectly for you. Even if the opponent is elusive as a goblin or a ghost, I can track their every move without them knowing, and report to you!”

Dongzi didn’t brag about his own prowess, but the confidence in his eyes was something Lin Yu liked.

The conversation lasted for over ten minutes.

When Dongzi left, he took with him two photographs, one of Lin Weiwei and the other of Lei Ying.
