Holding Their Own Space, the Family Returns to the Apocalypse

96: The ancient centipede that attackedYe Rui took a moment to look back. It wasn’t a big deal at first, but she saw that the spot where they had just stood and the surrounding road were all cracked, as if something was pushing up from inside!

Crucially, everywhere she looked after that was cracking.

She immediately realized what it was.

Terrified, Ye Rui used every ounce of strength she had to speed up her run.

The two of them ran toward the car at the fastest speed of their lives. Opening the door, closing it, and hitting the gas—the car flew out, the entire sequence of actions performed in one smooth motion.

Ai Yue pursed her lips tightly, focusing intently on driving, while Ye Rui looked back repeatedly, still shaken.

A horrifying scene appeared. From the cracks, dense swarms of Ancient Centipedes suddenly emerged. There were at least several thousand of them, swarming in pursuit of Ai Yue and Ye Rui.

Ai Yue had already seen this scene through the rearview mirror and was speechless. Who would have thought their luck would be so bad that they’d run straight into a centipede nest?

With so many centipedes, even if the two of them had ten hands each, they couldn’t fight them all off.

”Ah! Sister, they’re so fast! They’re going to catch us!” Ye Rui cried out.

”Hold on tight!” Ai Yue shouted.

With that, the entire kaibaihe battle shield shot out like an arrow from a bow with a ”whoosh,” before Ye Rui could even react.

Ye Rui was pinned against the back of her seat by the inertia, then slammed hard into the seat in front of her, seeing stars from the impact.

”Sister, you’re way too fast! I haven’t even buckled my seatbelt yet,” Ye Rui said with a miserable face, rubbing her head and hissing in pain.

”Any slower and we’d be left behind to feed the centipedes. Do you want to be eaten?” Ai Yue’s expression was grave, but her words were spoken nonchalantly.

Ye Rui shook her head hurriedly. ”I’d rather be crushed to death than feed those centipedes!”

”What a coincidence, I feel the same way.” After saying that, Ai Yue slammed on the gas again. Fortunately, the kaibaihe battle shield possessed Extreme Speed, and under Ai Yue’s driving, it practically flew.

But the Ancient Centipedes weren’t pushovers either. Would they let the little snacks that entered their nest just run away like that?

Several centipedes curled themselves into balls, and other centipedes whipped them with their tails. The curled-up Ancient Centipedes flew toward Ai Yue’s direction.

”The centipedes are flying through the air! Sister, get out of the way!”

Ai Yue hadn’t expected the Ancient Centipedes to pull a move like this and felt overwhelmed. She hurriedly dodged the centipedes flying through the sky.

Ai Yue’s evasion was very timely. The centipedes landed on both sides of her car. Relying on her driving skills, she swerved left and right to put distance between the car and the centipedes landing nearby.

They jumped again. With a ”screech,” the blade-like legs of an Ancient Centipede landed on the bulletproof glass, making a grating sound.

Then, the entire car felt heavier as a centipede landed on the roof.

Ai Yue slammed on the brakes, and the centipede on the car flew off due to inertia.

She then immediately accelerated to shake off the centipede army following closely behind.

The entire sequence of movements was as smooth as flowing water, leaving Ye Rui in awe.

With a durable car and excellent driving skills, Ai Yue managed to force her way out of the centipede stronghold.

They didn’t know how long they had been driving; they were already far from the ruined city. They only knew they were very, very far away. Finally, having shaken off the pursuing Ancient Centipedes, they dared to stop the car and catch their breath.

Ye Rui wiped away the sweat from her nervousness and let out a long breath. Ai Yue also sighed in relief.

”Sister, that was terrifying. I didn’t expect there to be so many centipedes there. Luckily, we were lucky enough to escape,” Ye Rui said after taking a sip of water to calm her nerves.

”Yeah. We’ll have to be even more careful in the future.” Ai Yue took two bottles of sparkling water from her space and tossed one to Ye Rui behind her.

Seeing the sparkling water in her hand, Ye Rui was delighted, and the fear in her eyes faded a bit.

”Thank you, Sister.”

*Pshhh.* Ye Rui twisted the cap open and drank greedily, finishing it in moments.

Ye Rui let out a long burp and smacked her lips. ”That feels great!”

Ai Yue, who was taking small sips, gave a gentle smile.

Ever since Ye Rui had been by her side, she felt that life was a bit easier. She didn’t have to keep her heart tense every second, which could be suffocating.

”Sister, are we going to keep killing centipedes?”

”Yes, con—”

*Bang!*

The entire car was violently flipped over.

Ai Yue instinctively wanted to flash back into her space, but she suddenly remembered Ye Rui was behind her and stopped. ”Rui Rui?”

”Sister, I’m okay! What happened?”

”Quick, crawl out! Watch the surroundings.” Ai Yue unbuckled her seatbelt and crawled out of the car window.

Ye Rui followed closely behind.

To their surprise, as soon as they crawled out, a large mouth snapped toward Ai Yue.

Ai Yue’s eyes sharpened as she rolled to the side, dodging the large mouth.

She quickly stood up and punched the sneak-attacking Ancient Centipede hard. Caught off guard, the Ancient Centipede was knocked back two meters.

Ye Rui also crawled out of the car and said crossly, ”Sister, I’ve checked. There’s only this one centipede nearby. I can’t believe a single one dared to ambush us!”

”Are you hurt?”

”No, I’m fine. But this centipede is really asking for it. It flipped our car and trapped us inside. That’s too much! How are we supposed to drive now?”

Getting angrier as she spoke, Ye Rui said, ”Sister, let me handle this small fry. I’m furious!”

Without waiting for Ai Yue to respond, she went up and gave the Ancient Centipede a blast of electrotherapy.

The entire centipede twitched from the electricity, completely unable to fight back.

”I can’t handle hundreds or thousands of you, but a single one dares to cause trouble? You’re really tired of living.”

The twitching centipede was finished off by Ye Rui with a single blade strike, and she extracted the transparent stone from its body.

”Sister, here!” Ye Rui handed the wiped-clean transparent stone to Ai Yue.

Ye Rui looked at the overturned kaibaihe battle shield and pulled at her hair in worry. ”Sister, what do we do? Can you flip this big guy back over?”

”I just tried. This car has a weighting device added to it; I can’t flip it,” Ai Yue said with a relaxed look.

”Ah? Then what do we do? Are we just going to leave it? How will we travel then?”

”It’s okay, I have a way!”

”What way?”

Ai Yue smiled and placed her hand directly on the car. In an instant, the car disappeared. A moment later, it was parked perfectly in its original spot.

Ye Rui watched with a racing heart, hardly daring to breathe. ”Sister, you’re amazing. Not only can you make things appear, but you can also make them disappear and reappear in an instant...”

”Hehe, put away that look of a country bumpkin. It’s ugly!” Ai Yue said with a smile.

”Sister?” Ye Rui protested with a pout.

”Haha...” Ai Yue laughed even louder.

”Sister, I’ve grown up! I’m not ugly at all, okay?”

”Alright! Hehe, my Rui Rui is very pretty.”
