Holding Their Own Space, the Family Returns to the Apocalypse

55: The King unleashes his powerAi Yue gripped the military knife in her hand tightly, her entire body trembling slightly, her lips quivering as she struggled to recover for a long while.

After regaining her senses, Ai Yue looked at the severed limbs scattered across the ground, her heart feeling incredibly cold. How had she lost control? How was this any different from being a murderous demon?

Although they deserved to die, she shouldn’t have killed all of them, and certainly not so cruelly.

Seeing Ai Yue in this state, Da Wang circled around her, letting out soft, low growls. Ai Yue looked at him, and Da Wang was startled by her cold, abnormal gaze. Not daring to approach her further, he jumped into the car and hid inside, afraid to come out.

At this moment, Ai Yue clearly realized that something was wrong with her.

Ever since she killed Han Xiao and the group of thugs who beat her parents to death, she hadn’t had nightmares for a long time. She thought most of the knots in her heart had been untied and that there were no major issues; this situation shouldn’t have occurred.

Ai Yue’s mind was in a mess. This incident had been too much of a shock for her. She stumbled back to the car and collapsed onto the seat, unable to muster a shred of strength. Gritting her teeth, she slowly tried to recall how she had lost control.

In the end, she concluded that her death in her previous life had been too tragic, and the resentment in her heart was so intense that she lost her reason upon seeing a similar scene.

She didn’t know if she would lose control again next time. The best way was to find the group of demons who had eaten her and kill them; only then might she return to normal and have the knots in her heart completely unraveled.

Anyone who has survived in the Apocalypse for a period of time will more or less have psychological issues.

For example, Li Shilan had once suffered from depression and lethargy, but fortunately, Da Wang’s appearance had helped her gradually pull through.

Ai Yue flashed into her space to wash up and change into a set of dry clothes. By the time she came out, she had regained her composure, and it was impossible to tell that she had just lost control.

Ai Yue took one last look at the severed limbs on the ground, suppressed the turbulent emotions in her eyes, and started the car to leave the area.

Her destination for this trip was Tong City, two hundred kilometers away from Yingjin City, which should take about three hours if there were no obstacles.

Seeing that Ai Yue had returned to normal and no longer sensing the dangerous aura emanating from her, Da Wang finally dared to poke his head out from the back seat to observe her. After a moment, he cautiously walked up behind Ai Yue and placed his large, fluffy paw on her shoulder.

Feeling Da Wang’s affection for her, Ai Yue’s heart warmed. She patted the paw on her shoulder with her left hand and gave a slight smile.

”Da Wang, did Big Sister scare you just now?” Suddenly thinking of something, Ai Yue chuckled. ”Da Wang, I have to say, you’re a tiger! How can you be so cowardly? You’re really an embarrassment to tigers. With the skills I’ve taught you and your own natural abilities, you could live perfectly well in this man-eating Apocalypse. What are you afraid of?”

Although Da Wang couldn’t understand what Ai Yue was saying, he seemed to realize she was teasing him. He bared his teeth at her, let out a low growl, and nudged her with his large head to express his dissatisfaction before returning to his exclusive seat to lie down, ignoring her.

Ai Yue laughed for a while longer and then increased her driving speed.

This journey was not smooth. She encountered several tough customers and only managed to escape thanks to the marauder.

Later, as the robberies Ai Yue encountered became more frequent, she realized she couldn’t continue like this. The marauder couldn’t help her escape every danger; besides, its engine was far too loud, making it a mobile bait. Eighty percent of the trouble was attracted by the sound.

Thirty kilometers from her destination, she decided to put away the marauder and switch to her electric scooter.

Placing Da Wang on the front floorboard of the scooter, Ai Yue continued toward Tong City with him.

She didn’t encounter any more highwaymen for the final thirty kilometers. After entering the city, Ai Yue carefully scouted the streets. Although the city was dilapidated, signs of human activity were still visible.

Occasionally, she saw a few people wandering the main road like wandering souls. They stared fixedly at Ai Yue and Da Wang, swallowing their saliva, but these people posed no threat to her.

Soon, Ai Yue’s arrival brought a ripple to this silent city, one that expanded rapidly.

She knew her arrival would definitely attract the attention of a local power, but she hadn’t expected them to move so quickly. She had only traversed two streets when they stood before her, treating her like a lamb to be slaughtered.

”Boss, I haven’t seen such tender-skinned goods in a long time. How about rewarding the brothers with some fun first, and then we can send her to Lady Zhen for an extra meal?” A man with a full beard licked his lips while staring fixedly at Ai Yue.

As soon as he finished speaking, a crisp ”slap” rang out. The boss slapped the man and then kicked him. ”Scram! Is such high-quality goods something you can dream of?”

Then, the boss waved his hand. ”Seize her! Everyone be careful and don’t be careless. A woman who can walk this far alone definitely isn’t simple. Don’t let the ship capsize in a gutter.”

”Yes!”

The group swarmed her without giving Ai Yue a chance to speak.

Ai Yue pulled out her military knife, ready for battle. It wasn’t that she wouldn’t use a gun, but the number of guns and bullets she had stockpiled was limited. After being in the Apocalypse for so long, she had already used a third of her ammunition and had no chance to replenish it. Therefore, she avoided using firearms whenever possible.

Anyone who had survived until now had experienced combat to some degree and had blood on their hands, so she didn’t dare be careless. ”Da Wang, Big Sister is going to fight. If I can’t win, you have to help me.”

Da Wang let out a low growl.

Ai Yue charged into the crowd with her military knife. These people were the most skilled fighters she had ever seen; even with a dozen of them against her, she didn’t fall into a disadvantage for the time being and even managed to kill three of them.

Seeing that his lackeys were no match for her, the boss spat into his palms, rubbed his hands together, and picked up a large black iron rod to join the fray.

This boss had some skills. With the others coordinating with him, they actually managed to suppress Ai Yue for a moment. Ai Yue nimbly dodged through the gaps between them.

For a while, neither side could do anything to the other.

The boss was not a patient man. He swung the large iron rod with formidable power, his speed getting faster and faster.

The others swung their weapons at Ai Yue simultaneously. With nowhere to hide, Ai Yue rolled on the ground to dodge the strike. They reacted quickly, and before Ai Yue had another chance to dodge, the boss’s iron rod was already coming down.

At that critical moment, Da Wang roared and lunged at the boss with his mouth wide open. He knocked aside the person next to the boss and bit down on the boss’s wrist that was holding the iron rod. A ”crack” was heard as his wrist was snapped by Da Wang.

The boss screamed in agony, dropped the iron rod, and retreated while clutching his injured hand in pain. Ai Yue, who was on the ground, seized this opportunity and lunged at the boss. The defenseless boss had his throat slit with a single stroke.
